New TV Shows Out Right Now

Saw the first episode of The Rookie. I'm going to watch the second, see how it goes. Might be worth following. Was better than some of the bad reviews I read.

For those who don't know it stars Nathan Filian in the lead as a newly divorced 40 year old who decides to become a cop. He's one of three rookies.

Wouldn't call it a crime show in the sense that it doesn't look like the cases will be that focus. Instead, the cops look like they'll be front and centre. So a light drama maybe.

I expected light drama with comedic elements. Lots of Nathan Fillion charisma and charm.

The first three episodes were 90% heavy drama, and a lot more intense than I had expected, based on the previews and how it was presented, and I gave up. Heavy internal conflict with the main characters.

I've been watching The Dragon Prince on Netflix, and its really good. Its actually lumped into the kids section and rated Y7, but don't let that fool you. Its a good show, and if it were live action with the same elements, it would be geared towards adults. Good story, mixed with action and humor.

Just finished watching Cobra Kai and damn it’s good. I hope season 2 isn't far away.

Finally got around to watching the 3rd season, had been putting it off as knew it would be bittersweet as it has been cancelled. Still love the show though, and the 3rd season was a fantastic piece of television, dark and violent but with some natural laugh out loud scenes as well. Luckily, with each season being based on one novel, it at least came to an end as such and didn't finish on a cliffhanger. Might have to check out the novels now, seeing as there won't be a 4th season.

Hap and Leonard's 3rd season was my personal favorite. I can't stand Christina what's her name so I didn't really care for the first season.

I just finished the Umbrella Academy and I loved it until the ending. I'm currently watching Deadly Class. It's set in the 80's and based off a comic by Rick Remender.

Killing Eve season 2 arrives next month and I'm looking forward to that.

Who would have thought that the nerdy brother from Two and a Half Men would have been a better Lex Luthor than Oscar Nominee Jesse Eisenberg.

My wife started watching Flash on Netflix last Autumn, and is now about halfway throw Arrow. I haven't seen every episode, but they're better than I expected them to be, and certainly better than any of the recent Superman or Batman movies. She's going to start Supergirl when shes done with Arrow, and we'll eventually get to the point you're at.

Jon Cryer is and always will be "Duckie Dale". He does have a bit of range tho and can convey menace.

All said, Eisenberg was terrible casting and even more caricature portrayal. He was the worst part of that movie IMO.

So how is Deadly Class. I was thinking of watching it. I have the NCAA Tournament for the next two weeks and then Hanna and What We Do In Shadows start. Both were great movies being turned into series. We'll see if they can pull it off.

Deadly Class is great. My only complaint is the girl who plays Saya is not a very good actress. Other than that they nailed it.

Watching both Russian Doll and Castle Rock and they are both good so far. Just over a week until Killing Eve.

Amazon put the entire season of HANNA up so I binged the 8 episode season.. excellent. They changed a few things from the movie but all were done to further the script. Acting and plot were excellent. This is a government Is chasing you type of series so if you like that genre definitely watch

Also watched the first episode of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. ehhhhh. I'll watch a few more but the characters aren't as funny as the movie nor is the dialogue. In the movie I was laughing almost every minute. With the series it was a laugh here then five minutes later another laugh. Part of the problem may have been a lot of the first episode is in the trailer. I will watch a few more episodes and see if they can recapture the magic but after one episode it doesn't look good

Terrible is a relative term in this case. I'd take either or both over Eisenberg's spastic chihuahua version any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
And while neither were great, the word I chose was "memorable", which they were. Spacey's version, while still campy, was the more amusing.

I'd take malaria over terminal lung cancer or terminal brain cancer. That don't make malaria relative.

I wasn't indicting you when I made t5hat post, just voicing the opinion that all live action Luthors have been on a sliding scale from awful to terrible.

I still dream of a DCU movie where Bryan Cranston plays Luthor.....

Santa Clarita Diet Season 3 - best season yet through 8 episodes! Just a ball of fun.

Hannah was fulfillable but fell short of memorable. Action scenes & choreography needed to be closer to the stuff in Logan..... and Hannah herself was done somewhat poorly and cast poorly. Definitely needed a girl who’s more proficient in martial arts and less athletically awkward. I had to keep reminding myself that this is a girl who was essentially genetically modified after birth and lived isolated from society all her life. She wasn’t nearly wild & raw enough.

I liked that idea at first however now I think he should be played by a Denzel Washington type.

Someone who just looks like a good guy. Like a young Tom Hanks.

Ben McKenzie, who played Jim Gordon in Gotham would be an interesting choice, and as he's already aware, people don't want caricatures or campy portrayals. They want people to take the roles serious as the characters are already over the top by their very nature.

Yeah, Santa Clarita’s awesome. Fun story, strong snappy dialogue, great characters. Olyphant & Drew work well together, and Olyphant steals the show IMO.

If you enjoy this then start on the first and only season of BrainDead.
