http://gamerant.com/square-enix-rpg-chrono-trigger/ Count me in as intrigued. After I posed this, I immediately happened upon a more in depth article about the game at Kotaku as well. http://kotaku.com/chrono-trigger-s-excellent-battle-system-returns-1764916527
http://kotaku.com/square-enixs-new-rpg-harkens-back-to-their-big-90s-clas-1766346390 The best article I've come across so far. Basically an English review of the Japanese title. The review doesn't state this, but it makes me wonder if its not a "full" modern game and may be a $40 title when it comes out. Still, more interested than ever. Takes me back to high school! I'm on board.
It's interesting how the concept art S-E showed at E3 turned into this. And the general trend of big publishers realizing they wasted a decade and going back to older concepts and IPs is a good one.
Wait, this game is already out in Japan? They only showed concept art last year, how'd they go from that to a final game without riding the S-E hype train for 2 years?
I was surprised as well. I'd never heard of it, and its already out there. But there'd been stories that Square had other IPs that they were working on, so this must have been one of them. From what I can tell, although it looks cool and is right up my alley, it might not be a AAA title either, so maybe it didn't take as much time and effort as other games might.
