Well, right now it makes more sense to stay on BlogTalkRadio.com but eventually, it would make sense to provide the show with its own platform so that they can make some money off of it and to help offset our costs.
I am going to rely on an old radio trick right now... "Check the tape." Or better yet, check the website. I think you will be sadly mistaken. Oh and check your PM's. Furthermore Finsane, and I mean this very respectfully, lets try to keep this thread focused on the actual radio show. Whatever problem(s) you seemingly have with me can be handled discreetly sans publicity. Back to the subject at hand. Sick, Seth, Celtkin, is the plan to keep it a two hour show? Can you go longer on blogtalkradio?
i have. i was once a member there. im not getting into semantics here sam. i dont want to have to watch every little thing i say when its related to this site. it was funnier when it was more lax. i understand there is a line we have to keep from crossing and i also understand its one of those "its celtkins house" kinda things, but honestly, do we have 12 year olds here reading and participating? Do we have family night on here? I mean, its a football website. I dont want us to deteriorate into constant smack-talk/bashing but i also i dont want a big brother atmosphere. we need to have a better medium or we wont have listeners crossing over. they want to participate or listen to the show without feeling like they are being constantly monitored even when theyre away from this site.
I've been checking out the radio blog place a little because I've been thinking about trying my hand at it, but I'd make sure that there is no fine print about them owning the show, before I'd do a format change.
Again, if you or someone doesn't like the "rules" here, leave. I truly don't care. What I care about is maintaining the quality of what we have now and I think most of the members will agree. It is, after all, what this site was built on. I am proud of this site and many more members are here because we care about the quality of the site than are who leave because they need an extra wide berth to be an *** if they wish.
And I think Celtkin has addressed that. You can't have it both ways in my opinion. Having this site back Sick and Seth's efforts on the radio is clearly a step in the right direction for everyone involved. With that, comes a responsibility. Much like when advertisers pay for space in a medium, you have to, in turn, promotoe their products on your airwaves, run contests sponsored by them etc. If Sick and Seth determine that their show is better off being raunchy and not in the light of thephins.com "vision," the website backing goes away and they are allowed to do whatever they want. Simple as that I would imagine. Besides, we are able to push the envelope here in the lounge and other forums with very little staff interference. I think it is safe to say that branching out into a different medium will pretty much garner the same type of attitude. Their track record has proven that, imo. Maybe you beg to differ.
If I may add to that: We fully support Fanhell.com. It is there because I asked Mor911 and Mindwarp to resurrect a site that could serve as a outlet for members who wanted that kind of content.
Yeah, I know that. I wasn't sure if you wanted that to be public knowledge or not. Sometimes the stench of that site is hard to get off the skin. Great, now Mor and Mindwarp are gonna be mad at me...
Chris and I look foward to starting this. We will be enforcing more sports talk (as per requested) and we will tone down the language, but a lot of the show is going to stay the same.
Look, this is a wonderful site, and i love being a member here. I would have left already if I didnt think so. Especially the fact that the longue is relatively hands-off style moderating, you guys do let us get away with a lot there(good god, a hell of a lot). It is your house, so to speak, after all anyways, and youre not making money off of us, save club/vip members. I know you could care less if I was unhappy with the way things are run here and took off. Theres plenty of good members here to fill the void. MY concern is, is this place becoming a shell of itself someday because some idiot took something too far and and we are all punished collectively. Obviously we dont want to become Finheaven, that place feels like a Wal-Mart of a Phins site now in days. Too many people, too much amateurism of the posters, and the general feeling of not feeling like i fit in because of the cluster**** that is that site. Obviously, maintaining the quality of the site is important. But we also dont want the fun and freedom we do have here to be chipped away, and that includes ventures outside of the site but are still somewhat related. We need a place to chill and have a freeier flow of conversation and sometimes the longue doesnt quite cut it. Sick's shows have a way of doing that. Maybe we can have a side show, a Just-To-Talk Radio kind of thing. Either way, im just putting this perspective out there, not sure if anyone else feels the same.
Thank you for expanding on your earlier statement and I agree. This site has a lot more freedom than some other sites and that is by design but we ask our members to remember that we have a broader audience than just a handful of members who want complete freedom of speech (so to speak). For everything else, we refer people to FanHell.com. That site was set up by two of our members just for that reason. As for a second radio show - I have no problems with that but we may not be able to promote it but you can certainly link to it (within reason, of course)
See, I think this is probably the best response you have had yet. No beating around the bush, no attacks on other members (except one... ) and a suggestion to help alleviate the problem you perceive. My response back to you (and not that I am anyone of importance around here) is that the chatroom associated with the radio is still pretty much fair game as far as I can tell, and perhaps down the road, if this whole radio thing grabs a hold, perhaps a NETWORK is built with a variety of different shows/topics/hosts. If you look at it as an extension of this website, it is, above all else, a Dolphins fan site, meaning that the majority of discussion should probably revolve around that to start as it will be the best chance to gain an audience. Down the road? Who knows? A lounge style radio show? A PoFo radio show? A music/movies type hour? All ideas that I think, come with time, effort and prior success. Rome was not built in a day. In fact, I think it took a week.
You are very perceptive, brother. George and I have plans for a network of sites and we have yet to fully explore everything we can do but our main interest is and will always be this site. Stay tuned
GO for it, but be prepared, that style show would net you a BUNCH of angry phone calls/e-mails no matter which side you sat on. You are braver than I, that is for sure. I MAY have had some insider knowledge that led me to believe this might be the case. (sweet, now people think I am connected!) I actually thought of you and Mr. Pagan when I wrote that. But honestly, there are only so many Five Finger Death Punch songs that the masses could listen too...
This concept has never been about making money. In fact, we gave away everything we earned last year to help members here. As we grow, we can build a faster and more dependable infrastructure and this year, hopefully help more members. Our mission statement has included from the beginning a pledge to donate a portion of our revenue to charity and charity begins at home here at ThePhins.com. How many other sites do that?

Okay fine, forget FFDP. Replace them with Caninis and the same rule applies. I think King Felix is a big hip hop guy, and the generational gap of him and Pagan would make for great radio...nay great TV! I could see Pagan just staring at him while Felix waxes poetic about Lupe Fiasco. His eyes starting to glaze over and looking bewildered, angry and lost all at once. Matter of fact, I would PAY to see that show...
Oh and if this thing DOES take off, it would be a crime if Finsgirlie was not made at least a co-host of a JTT type radio program. It would be an equal crime if unluckyluciano WAS named a co-host.
ok im going to get in on this. its funny, this little thing started with me googling "internet broadcasting" one night, because i wanna host. i love being behind a mic, and making people laugh.....one day i probably will be a crappy comedian for corporate gatherings or something, but thats neither here nor there. i love this site, so i posted a link, BOOM 10 people showed up. it felt good. and i understand finsane and probably some of my other "hardcore" listeners (all 4 of you) feelings on the subject. this is like one of those "sold out" things haha. i never thought id be here. but here is the meat of the entire thing. This is what i love. i went to broadcasting school, i worked in sports radio my entire "adult working" life. i know the "ins and outs" i have connections, i have espn personalities phone numbers in my cell, and i text with some of the frequently. i love this buisness. the stupid sound effects, the scripted funny callers, the headlines, breaking news.....being that "voice" that makes people laugh, or when someone says something dumb on the air.....and we purposely go dead quiet. for the effect. and everyone gets it. i love that. the feeling is incredible. To see the listnership grow a little bit recently is awesome. have a full switchboard of calls is amazing. and when i was approached about representing this website, which is my homepage, which is the only site i basically live on. and was asked to merge my show into something this site could promote and be apart of. it was the greatest feeling yet. I love the miami dolphins, i breath the miami dolphins, i named my son after a miami dolphin player, and i have cried after some crap losses, and i have punched a hole in my uncles wall when we drafted ginn over quinn, i have hugged random men i have never met before at bars and stadiums because of one thing....the miami dolphins. and that is in reality what brings us all together on this website. This site is ran by some amazing people. and if it means i need to switch my show a bit (language wise....and more dolphin heavy) then hell yea. bring me on board. finsane, and everyone....believe me. im not going to be straight laced radio host all of a sudden. my humor will be there, and i will still use the failhorn and i will still say *** and hell and damn and give everyone a lax "chill" enviroment. except now.....we can talk about our beloved dolphins a little more. besides, i know all to well.....you couldnt say half the crap on "real" radio as i do on my show....lets make this a little more professional eh? and maybe turn it into something amazing....we can all be proud of, and all know we had a little something to do with getting it off the ground! /end cheesy movie monologue

we wont be black and white different, i assure you. but if you think about this website.....and how many people participate, who didnt even KNOW what the "just to talk" thread was......that my friend, is untapped audience we can get our hands on.... sticky a link to the show in the mains, the club, the pofo, the other sports thread, the ladies lounge.....and all of a sudden.....we have 75, 100, 400 listeners......we will need to reach beyond the "lounge" crew....we will need to bring on ck or boomer and talk draft, let them promote their website, bring on muck or celt and have a good interview and hear from their mouths (literally) how and why they keep this beautiful site running. there is so much potential. its amazing. we just need to tap into it, and we can really run with something here brotha
...I'm gonna go ahead and walk away from this one... Also, Sick, I think an interview with MIAMI MIKE seems appropriate does it not? And Enforcerfin, since you are attached to that video camera of yours, perhaps providing some VIDEO footage of the Miami Mecca in New Jersey would be apt? Maybe even do some man on the street style interviews of your fellow phin fans? And thus, www.thephins.com/TV is born. Feel the synergy!
