The second line of the dictionary definition of the word luck states that luck is a force that operates for or against an individual. The connotation of luck means that the result of any situation is because of luck itself and it does not account for any of the responsibility of the result to come from the participant himself. That's where i take issue with the thought that the Heat was lucky. The NBA is ultimately a league of Makes or misses. San Antonio had two opportunities to make a FT to win the game.. They missed those two opportunities. The Miami Heat had two opprtunities to make 3 point shots to tie the game. The Heat capitalized on both. They didn't need a .1 second left on the shot clock bank shot to tie it. They didn't need a half court heave to tie it as time expired. They needed two three point makes from two 40% plus 3 pt shooters. In 2006, Clutch for all time Dwyane Wade missed 2 consecutive FTs to keep the game alive for Dallas. Dallas then missed their 3 pt look whereas the Heat made it's 3 pter at the end. Dallas had a chance to earn that win.. They didn't take it. Miami had a chance to earn Game 6. They did. There is no doubt that Heat caught a break in Game 6. There is also no doubt the Heat were fortunate to have an opportunity in Game 6 because most teams are dead in that circumstance. But to say the Heat got lucky brings with it the connotation of the word luck, which means the Heat didn't have anything to do with earning that win, they just got "lucky". That's such a loaded term and that's why I think it does them a disservice.
