I guess if they were convinced on either guy, something would have been done, given that we have the cap room...however, it also could be that both are telling their agents to sit on things until FA where there will be some competition for them...at any rate, I would still like to see them jump on Carey..but we'll see.. Crowder has been serviceable, but so were guys like Moron Greenwood and Todd Wade at one point...
Crowder is probably a wait and see approach. When this year is done things will start to happen. I don't know how popular Crowder will be in the FA scene but he will get interest. Carey is a different story. He will probably garner alot of interest. Whether we keep one or both or none, I think our FO will make the right decision at the right price.
I don't see Crowder being with us next year. They also won't give Carey the money because "they" want to see him earn it for the rest of the year.He will get his money tho,IMO. Hopefully for a Parcells discounted rate.
Wow....50 games= 1 and a half sack and no Int's. I would like to him accend or see some sort of upside...i just dont, i think hes stiff and lacks strength. 4 years 10 to 12 million tops.. He made a play in preseason, i dont know if yall remember it but he got a sack...it was an absolutely incredible football play... How this guy has one sack in 50 games is mindboggling, zach was the worst blitzing player i ever seen but he trumps channing in the stat dept over 50 game stretches. Hes at least due for one of those better then average games, hopefully with Joey getting a lotta hype here and from the rest of the league, he will do as much as he can and try to find another level to play at.
You need guys like Crowder in your locker room to kept things light, kept people wanting to go to work. I really can't see ether one willing leaving.
The whole deal with Crowder is he's playing at a pedestrian level. You can get guys on the 2nd day of the draft or in the middle of FA who can play as well as Crowder has been playing. Which maybe he shouldn't be faulted for since he was drafted in the 3rd round. But if he's wanting money that doesn't reflect his playing then it's no big deal to replace the guy. ILB in this D are replaceable.
I just think Crowder runs himself out of too many plays. I wonder if he doesn't read plays as fast as he should so he feels like he has to guess.
I didn't really care for him talking about money a few weeks back when he was asked about a TE that was open.
So if it was up to you , you wouldn't do a new deal with him. If you talk to anyone long enough your going to find things not to like about them.
Personally, I would tag CC with some tender (like a 3rd rounder) then let him walk for the pick. I would try to bring Carey back at OG money because that is where I think he would be mst effective. I know that is not where he is playing but...
Im a bit surprised neither one of these guys had deals done yet. Id keep them both here if I had my choice. Unless theres some major upgrades available. I see Carey being here next year, unless he makes some insane monetary demands. Seems like were making these guys earn their new deals this year. Im all for that. But in the end, I see them both here still next year.
I'd like to see us bring back both but CC isn't a top 20 MLB and we shouldn't pay him that way. And same go's for Carey if he thinks he should be payed like a top ten Rt. We should be able to bring both back on the cheap cuzz they both want to be here.
i see them solidifying the line first before they take crowder. if one is the odd man out it will be him. though both are things BP likes to draft a plenty and I could see both being shipped out if the right price is available and BPs sees someone he thinks could be better in this years draft. i'm not big on predicting whether or not players will be around but any player who wants to be on this team will have to prove themselves, that's for sure.
I think they should offer Crowder reasonable money. But if he's being unrealistic...let him walk. He isn't going to be that hard to replace. Carey is really a much better RT than Crowder is ILB. I would prefer to see Carey stay. But I wonder how much money they're willing to sink into the OL. Long is the highest paid OT ever, if I'm not mistaken. Satele got decent money, as did Smiley.
That's kind of my thinking as well. RB was avergeing one full yard more per carry last year.......and that was before dumping the money we did into it this year.
Sorry, but I have not been impressed with Vernon Carey this year. If he and his agent demand alot of money next year, BP will let him go. Same goes for CC.
I honestly don't see much in Channing Crowder. When does he ever make a big tackle, get a big fumble or INT? Does he make anyone here forget about Zach Thomas, who was always around the ball and making big stops. I would let this guy go or trade him after this year and bring in Maualuga or Cushing from USC. Guys who have a nose for the ball.
Somebody is going to pee all over their leg for Carey in the offseason. Don't forget he has prove he can play LT at a high level as well. I see them putting a second round tender on Carey, and he'll get it from more than one team.
Pay the money, move on. They're both Florida guys who will take a fair rate most probably. You don't need to create extra holes for yourself. Carey won't get that ridiculous of a deal and likely would stay. He should be kept, things take time and overall he's been good. Crowder doesn't make huge plays but he's solid and consistent. Sometimes that's what it takes until you get an upgrade. Not all players on your team are all-stars. Just don't create a brand new ILB and RT need for yourself when you don't need to. Move on to bigger and better things like getting a #1 CB, a young pass rusher to eventually replace Porter or play right now at LOLB, and a big, fast WR to work with the current route possession guy (Camarillo) and burner (Ginn Jr.) we have now. We have the money. Don't be cheap. Pay them a fair rate, move on.
