It would put butts in the seats though. Isn't that what you want to go along with the stadium improvements to help improve the atmosphere?

If we build the right way, a balanced way, the team will improve, the wins will come, and more people will be in the stadium, the atmoshere will change accordingly ( more people create a bit more noise obviously) but will never reach a level that can affect the opponent, in any way, nor inspire our own team, or our own fans to show up early, stand, and be loud..but that's another conversation I don't think you want to get into.

I really hate having to repeat myself and having to reposts things that have already been posted in the thread but have been ignored.

    http://blogs.thescore.com/nfl/2012/02/23/the-tape-never-lies-evaluating-rfa-mike-wallace/

So, let's not sit here and act like Mike Wallace can run a full route tree effectively when the only routes he is truly effective at are the ones where he can use his speed to run by the defender. I've already posted the images that show him rounding off the out pattern and the square in. So, if you want to continue to argue that he is a great fit for the West Coast Offense - an offense that REQUIRES precision in the route running of the wide receivers, then go ahead. It is foolish to support giving $12+ million to a player when he has to develop further to be a fit in your offense.

if you look at how this years playoffs went with nearly no defense at all, its totally reasonable

He's best utilized on routes that will allow him to use his speed, but doesn't ask him to be precise in his route running or make sharp cuts. To maximize his effectiveness, you will need to limit his routes to post patterns, fly patterns, and slip screens where he can catch the ball and go up field. If you ask him to run outbreaking patterns, dig patterns, comebacks....etc, then you are playing him to his weakness.

Yeah. So let's give $12+ million to a guy that we have to teach him how to run a pass route appropriately.

If you want to believe Wallace is incapable of running a comeback or curl route for whatever reason, feel free to continue with your delusion.

The athleticism is already there. The Talent as well. That's the hard part. I say we let Philbin earn his money. Make Wallace BETTER.

No..I say let's give 10.5 million a year to a guy that is already HIGHLY productive with the potential to become one of the best 3 WR's in the game.

    See..that sounds much better.

Including tight ends, there is a hell of a lot of resources being spent on the combined units from the ravens and niners..relative to us it's completely out of whack, I don't wanna sound like I'm contradicting myself here, I know some resources have to be spent on both units, but I do believe both contracts will offset the balanced approach and you will sacrifice other parts of the team, it's just too much having both, you must rely on your skill as an evaluator to sign one free agent and find your others in the draft, that way if your good you find the right guy in the draft at the right price.

20 mill on two receivers carries to much risk for me, I'd be out on the scenario.

I could work with that..I think you have to take into account the impact of what a Wallace skillset brings into an offense and how it benefits the other 10 players..the space created by speed and dynamics can be just that for your run game, intermediate game, and TD production..

If Miami pursues him, it is with Philbin's complete support in doing so, it's simple as that to me.

100 percent agreed..it's not happening unless Philbins signs off...Philbin in his days working with Green Bay was used to having a tremendous amount of talent in both units, relative to us it might of shocked him a bit..maybe he will sign off on one..

And do you think Mike Tomlin and his staff did nothing to try and teach him how to run routes? Why do you think they are not going to resign him? Mike Tomlin did everything you could to get him better at routes, even resorting to nicknaming him "one trick" and calling him a one trick pony to see if that would make him work harder on his routes.

I don't feel that Wallace will ever be a top 5 WR and I would have to believe that to consider paying him $12 mill/per. Committing that much money there will inevitably mean that we'll have to short change other positions down the line. I just don't believe it's wise to commit that much money to one player that isn't top 5 at his position.

I guess I don't understand why'd you take that big of a risk when there's other players out there already perfect for the system. Is a couple of tenths of a second really $10.5 million important?

Sign Greg Jennings and either trade for Miles Austin or draft Keenan Allen or Quinton Patton.

Yeah. Im good with all that. Not sure about trading for Austin unless we get him relatively cheap.
Are you OK with giving Jennings what he reportedly wants?

They offered him a contract. He refused. They went with Brown. Reportedly Wallace's offer was higher than Browns. That's the Steeler way. They don't get pushed around.

Tomlin didn't resort to calling him one trick to make him better. He was drafted as a rookie to run those routes exclusively. It's what he did in college and what he was drafted to do here. Santonio gets in trouble and is traded and they start asking Wallace to do more. As good as Brown and Sanders are, they are not Touch Down hawks in the way Wallace is.

No, he's not incapable by any means. Is he particularly capable? No. It's not a bread and butter route for him, and his speed doesn't make him especially dangerous at it.

good post . i would let Bess go and then sign a vet tightend or draft a pass catching tight end. I agree with spending 4 draft picks on just the secondary and fix the dline and oline next year.

He is 26. Once his own head coach said about Chris Carter all he did was catch TDs. He was wrong, Carter DEVELOPED into one of the best possession WRs of all time.

    Boston, MA...
You have to gamble from time to time with great talent; one need not look further than up here in the Northeast with the Patriots.

One man's garbage is another man's treasure. The man's garbage could still end up being garbage from your perspective, but it could become a treasure when we are talking about great talent.

Edit: I sincerely doubt we sign both players with the talent at the WR position in the draft and our picks (9 total).

From FA, I see us signing one WR named Jennings for less than 10m (pressure may turn to us signing him for around there...) and drafting one WR in the 2R (Ex: M.Goodwin Texas or Q.Patton Louisiana Tech) or 3R. Bowe would be nice but reports say he wants to return to KC and is already talking contract.

Michael Johnson will likely get franchise tagged and then a long term contract negotiated. Andre Smith is more problematic because of his past weight/performance issues so the Bengals will not overpay despite him being the best RT in football last year. If we overpay...ay caramba... Cliff Avril not worth the money he wants imo.

H.Melton will get a strong look if Chicago is stupid, which would lead to Starks being expendable.

I see us looking hard at Levitre and Byrd to not only weaken BUF, but strengthen one of those two positions in need of strengthening. Quin if he is not franchised by HOU or W.Moore from ATL if he wants more money than what ATL is offering. Clemons is the fall back imo.

You may be correct. The main argument seems to be how well he'll fit into our offense because of his allegedly limited route tree. The one way we'll know for sure if he could fit in is if we try to sign him. One thing I am very sure of...if we do try to sign him, it will be done with Philbin agreeing to it, which means he thinks Wallace fits, which carries far more weight than what any of us think.

Y'all can think that, but history shows us that Stephen Ross is very much interested in making flashy moves and not necessarily moves that mean the best for the long term benefit of this franchise. Mike Wallace is the flashy move because of his speed. It's pretty well known that Brandon Marshall was acquired against the better judgement of both Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland because Stephen Ross pretty much told them to go get him.

Chris Carter was also strung out on drugs at the time and had not rehabilitated himself. That's not the case with Mike Wallace. Carter's issue was also not his route running. It was his focus. Carter always had great short area quickness and could change direction at the drop of a hat. For all the speed Mike Wallace has, he's not quick. He's a straight line athlete.

    The bottom line is this.

Armando, among others, have been the reporters promoting the acqusition of Mike Wallace. In Armando's case, his major contact within the organization is someone that is close to Stephen Ross. Ross is notorious for having loose lips. My guess is, the desire inside the organization to get Mike Wallace comes from ownership, and I'm guess that is why there is a rumor floating around that Miami is having "internal discussions" about signing both Jennings and Wallace.

This is after reports surfaced that Miami had targeted resigning Brian Hartline and Chris Clemons as their priorities this offseason.

My guess is, Miami's front office and coaching staff have zeroed in on Greg Jennings, but they are having to placate to the owner's desire for the flash and luxury of Mike Wallace's speed in the meantime.

When the dust settles, Mike Wallace will sign with someone like Carolina or Cleveland and play in an offensive style that will use him as a vertical threat only, and Miami will pursue Greg Jennings and resign Brian Hartline.

There is all this talk about Jennings and Wallace (I prefer Jennings), I wonder why there is no talk about Dwayne Bowe. Id rather sign Bowe over either Jennings or Wallace.
