Merrill Lynch lost a staggering $13.8 billion in the final quarter of 2008, before being taken over by Bank of America (BAC: 3.169, -0.071, -2.19%) on Jan. 1 -- and now at least one of the traders who apparently contributed to that loss is being investigated by British regulators, according to the New York Times.
Alexis Stenfors, a currency trader in London, lost $120 million as “others seemingly lost hundreds of million on tricky credit derivatives,” the Times said in its Friday edition.
