It's based on rounds. When a round starts, you pick a race and create a planet. Build the planet up and try to survive, or attack others and be more aggressive. Rounds last about 4-8 weeks then it will be dormant for a couple weeks while the programming make tweaks or upgrades. Then they will send out a notify that a new round will be starting. You can then pick a race and make a new planet again. You earn prestige thru the round and you get ranked on a leaderboard for overall points.
