I have no doubt a "source" told this to Armando. I do question the motives of the source though.

There are just as many sources that claimed they had a deal for a 5th round pick as there are that claim it was a 2nd round pick.

Its the reality of the QB position IMO. Its not cheap. I think its worth it to spend $5M on a good backup.

Ah, but that's not what the article says. It's pretty obvious that whoever leaked this story intends to make Ireland look like a donk. For all we know, Ireland went to Ross, said, okay, that's what Orton wants and that's what Denver wants, and they both agreed that it was too much. Then it only takes one "source" to say that Ross told Ireland to forget about the deal (which he kinda did) and one reporter to use the word "ordered" and an innocent situation looks like a warzone.

Whether Ireland was going to make the trade for Orton or not is really irrelevant. What is relevant is that Ireland has done a terrible job since he took over as the GM four years ago. This is all Ross needs to consider when he makes his decision concerning the future of Ireland with the Dolphins. Ireland was hired to rebuild this team for the future. Instead he took a 1-15 and after four years on the job, the Dolphins are still the worst team in the AFC-East and one of the worst teams in the NFL at this time. Keeping Ireland as the Dolphins GM should not even be an option.

Well you can scratch Gruden off that list. Looks like he just signed a 5 year extension with ESPN.

It means nothing. It's leverage or a safety net.
I still think Gruden is the Dolphins HC by the Super Bowl.
