Maggette is VERY underrated in the sense that he gets to the line and applies pressure on your opponents front line.

Corey Maggette has a "winner's" game. He would be a great asset to a contender. To the Spurs...wow..the rich would be getting really rich.

Well said. If you look at his career stats, the number of free throws he draws are astounding. And he's a career 82% FT shooter as well, so he cashes in on those. Good thing, too, since he's not much of an outside shooter, though his midrange game is okay.

Again, I'd advise him to take a one year MLE deal if I were his agent. He's a guy that should be making a lot more, and has been victimized by a poorly-timed entry into the market.

The Heat are one of five teams who are interested in Maggette.

The Heat are showing interest in several different players including James Jones, Patrick O'Bryant, Tyronn Lue and Sebastion Telfair.

Yeah. Hasn't every suitor of his offered the MLE? Hopefully the Heat made one.

I heard that there was interest. But this is the first that I had heard that he had been actually made an offer. I could be wrong...

Miami won't be offering Maggette the mid-level, and rightfully so. He's looking for a 5/30 or 6/36 type of deal. Unless we can find a way to get rid of Haslem/Banks or Mark Blount, he'd probably ruin our cap flexibility for 2009 and/or 2010. Not worth it, IMO.

The only way I could see that happening is if Marion is dealt for a PG or C w/ a long contract.
(i.e. sign-and-trade for Monta Ellis - also highly unlikely)

I don't think Diop is an option for Miami at this stage. It'd be nice to sign him, but I don't see it. Dallas seems content with giving up the full mid-level for the guy, and that's just insane for a player who will give you a max of 5 points and 5 boards per game. I guess that's a prime example of how poor the center situation has become in the league. It's rare to find a solid one, so teams just look for size, regardless.

We've also been linked to Corey Maggette, Mickael Pietrus, James Jones, Tyronn Lue, Sebastian Telfair, Patrick O'Bryant, and believe it or not, Monta Ellis. Randy Pfund (radio) stated that Miami was to make a "serious run" at Jose Calderon and was bummed that he agreed on a deal w/ Toronto. My only guess is that we were to offer Shawn Marion for perhaps Calderon (signed at $10 million per) and Kapono.

I saw that on ESPN.com and the first question I asked myself was,

"Is Mark Blount practicing with the summer league squad?"

Can't imagine another player being dunce/clumsy enough to accidentally elbow a teammate.

Not that I have any desire at all to help the Heat, but this is incorrect. The summer of 2010 is when all the big free agents come out. At present, Miami has $21.9M committed to the cap that summer, $17.1M of which is Dwyane Wade's player option. Using that $21.9M figure as a baseline, and assuming a salary cap of $63M, that leaves Miami about $41M in cap room at present. If Corey Maggette is signed to a MLE deal, that reduces their room to around $34M.

Even next offseason, Miami has $35.3M committed in salary. That leaves, at present, about $25.7M in cap room, assuming a $61M cap. More than enough to pursue a max-level free agent and have Maggette's contract on the books.

Maggette's not the best fit for the Heat, actually (they need a shooter more than another slasher), but he's an excellent player and if he's not a perfect fit, you can't complain about the price. Maggette would probably be a sixth man, and a small-ball lineup of Wade, Maggette, Marion, Beasley and whoever the hell's going to play point could be hard to match up with.

    We are gonna BUY EVERYBODY.

I foresee this lineup for 2010

    Chris Paul
    Wade
    Lebron
    Beasley
    Dwight Howard

    Bench:

    Boozer, Monta Ellis, Chauncey Billups.

Thanks for the clear up, dude. I'm not too great with the NBA's salary cap. :wink2:
    (trying to learn it, though)

& the above post made me check out HoopsHype's salary cap section: Wow. I had no idea that Mark Blount expires that summer. For whatever reason, I was under the impression that he expired 2010-2011. Same thing with Udonis Haslem.

We can pretty much offer the full mid-level in 2008 and 2009 without going into our 2010 savings.

Yeah Ellis is highly unlikely like you said. He is expected to fill the PG void for GS that was left behind by Davis.

So that leaves me curious here: If Miami is to move Shawn Marion for Kirk Hinrich & Andres Nocioni, then we'd still have the cap space to sign a top notch free agent and re-sign Wade (bird rights) in 2010? Nocioni expires next year at $8,000,000 and Hinrich is on the books for 2010-2011 at $9,000,000 followed by $8,000,000 in 2011-2012.

Hinrich's contract is reclining salary wise, so wouldn't we be able to fit him in opposed to a mid-level guy in 2008 and/or 2009? I've heard people state that acquiring Hinrich would ruin our cap flexibility in 2010.

Both players have the James Posey fever. Love them as your guys, hate them as opponents. Kirk Hinrich is as perfect a compliment next to Wade as they come, though.

Adding Nocioni and Hinrich to our team makes us much better.

both can shoot..both can defend...Nocioni is a great rebounder at the #3 spot..can play a little of the #4....

and we retain our cap flexibility? great deal if we do it.

Although I think that we need to exhaust every trade possiblity with Marion before we pull this one.

We're stuck with Mark Blount, and we've got Alonzo Mourning. I like Joel Anthony a lot, so does Zo.

    With that said,

Patrick O'Bryant for cheap. He'd be a steal if we can develop him, and we've got the right people.

Posey isn't a punk, he's just a great defender. Hinrich and Nocioni are pricks.

I'd rather beat whatever team he's playing on.

We could also strike a deal with Satan, but both options leave us without a soul.

Yeah but I don't think he ends up there. He and Baron Davis are good friends and if it wasn't for Brand saying he would come back to LA, Davis wouldn't have signed.

    My guess is Patrick O'Bryant.

Random marketing idea I just had:

Wade should try and push for T-Mobile to sign Michael Beasley, whereas a spin off to the Fav-5 commercials, it would be Beasley as the young rook trying to get into Wade's fav-5. That would be a cool idea. If not, then excuse my corniness.

790 is reporting that Elton Brand has told the Clippers that he would be open to a sign and trade to Miami if the deal does not INCLUDE Beasley.

790 is saying that the Heat is prepared to offer Marion and others for Brand.

  40. phunwin

Has a player ever demanded a trade less than a week after signing a 5 year contract? Because I'm pretty sure that's precisely what Baron Davis would do if the Clippers did that. Not even Donald T. Sterling is enough of an idiot to do something like that.

What, exactly, would the Heat give up apart from Marion that the Clippers would actually want? Obviously not Beasley or Wade. I can't see an offer of Marion and Udonis Haslem for Brand and Tim Thomas's crappy contract blowing up anyone's skirt.

Well, Worthy's the best case scenario, to be sure. He could also be the next Glenn Robinson; nice all-around offensive game, no defense, bit of a head case, and falls off a table after his 29th birthday. Antawn Jamison is probably a pretty fair comparison.
