Miami should really consider drafting Beasley and dealing Haslem for a young (cheap) player and an expiring contract, i.e. Kyle Lowry and Jason Collins. That would give us about $25 million in cap space for the 2009 summer. Realistically speaking, 2009 may give us a better shot at landing an All-Star big than 2010. Carlos Boozer, Emeka Okafor, and Elton Brand will probably all seek the highest contract, rather than re-signing with their team. I wouldn't put more than a prayer into LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and that 2010 crop.

Don't want LeBron, don't want Bosh, but Boozer is more than welcome here. Works for me.

Ah man, you lost me there. Bron is irrelevant because I highly doubt his ego would allow him to play with a fully recovered Dwyane Wade (hopefully) who is better than him when healthy. But Boozer over Bosh? I don't know about that one. Boozer is a pretty horrific defender and hasn't done much under pressure. From the impression I've received from Cleveland & Utah fans, he's got some under the radar character concerns as well. Still, he'd be a more than welcomed addition to a Wade/Beasley core in 2009. But over Bosh? Nahhhhh.

We won't have the opportunity to decide between the two........just saying. :wink2:

Dwyane Wade was all smiles when talking up O.J. Mayo tonight. He said that it is a three man race, but he has gotten the opportunity to get to know O.J., which "is a perk" - while smiling and winking into the camera.

Also stated that he feels like Mayo will be able to help a program right away and is definitely NBA ready.

BTW, Dwyane Wade looks about the same size as he did in 2006! w00t.

A healthy Wade would be a welcome start to next season. Plus a solid offseason with FA and the lottery I feel like we're right back in it.

I can't imagine the Grizzlies would give up a promising player like Lowry for a run-of-the-mill power forward like Haslem, especially when the Grizzlies already have Hakim Warrick, who's statistically a more productive player. Then again, I didn't think they'd give up Pau Gasol for a bag of magic beans, either, so what do I know?

Bosh is a near ideal fit with Wade; he's a player who can get out and run on a fast break. Boozer's much more comfortable in half-court sets. If they were fortunate enough to have the chance to pick between the two, I think Bosh would make far more sense.

i might favor a trade, as long as we got mayo. if we got a player like bayless, gordon or lopez, when we had the oppurtunity to get beasley, i'd throw up in my own mouth.

It comes down to Rose and Mayo IMO. I too dont see this team picking Beasley.

    I've recently changed my tune!!!!!!!!!

Always been a fan of O.J. Mayo, but never looked at him as a guy on the Rose/Beasley level. However, after doing some reading to go along with what I've seen from him at the collegiate level, he's at least worthy of entering the discussion when it comes to Rose and Beasley. I think there's a Big 3 now instead of this being a "2 man draft" - I'd even look at Mayo and say that there's a good chance of him developing into the best player from this class.

I am actually almost positive that O.J. Mayo will be wearing a Heat jersey next year.

I really don't see Pat Riley going for Michael Beasley's personality.

I can picture Michael Beasley joking around with Pat Riley during their meeting. Perhaps even bringing a dead rat or some ****roaches to dinner and placing it in Riley's food. I don't think those two will fit at all, lol.

The argument has been made that Caron Butler was a huge character risk, and he actually had legal troubles which Beasley hasn't had. However, huge difference in maturity with Caron and Beasley. I can't see Riley selecting a player who exceeds Dorell Wright in the immaturity department (even if Beasley is a unique talent), especially with all the behind closed doors issues he's had with Dorell.

EDIT: ****roach gets the bleep! What about Will Smith's new Han**** flick? Damn, that too!

Anyone think this could be some sort of smoke screen and they really like Beasley and don't want Chicago to pick him? Or am I reaching with that? It just occurred to me that that is a possibility.

I don't think it is a smoke screen. Wade apparently loves the guy and the Heat would probably do anything to keep Wade happy. OJ Mayo (not Simpson) is a really good player.

Beasley will be in town tomorrow and Thursday for a meet and full workout.

Word is: Chicago fell in love with him during his visit which concluded on Tuesday.

Anything less than the 4 seed will be a disappointment. NBA teams can turn around very quickly, and the East is wide-open from seeds 3 through 8 every year.

If Detroit goes through a massive overhaul, then the East will be completely open aside from the #1 seed. I'm extremely excited about the possibilities of a healthy Dwyane Wade in 2008-2009. Oh man.

If Detroit gets overhauled, the 1 and 2 seed will be Cleveland and Boston, not necessarily in that order. I think the Heat getting the 4 seed is achievable. We're going to need the 2009 offseason to get truly back into contention though--Carlos Boozer, anyone?

That is the million dollar question isn't it!? I would tend to agree that two slashers on the same team could end up taking the ball out of D Wades hands too much. However, I also think Rose is a better player than Beasley...

Why wouldn't the #1 seed be open for debate as well? As well as the Celtics played, their core players aren't exactly young, and Ray Allen looked just ancient through most of the playoffs (though to his eternal credit, he certainly played well in the Finals).

You're assuming that Joe Dumars is just going to trade everyone for 50 cents on the dollar?

Boozer makes sense for Miami, but Chris Bosh is about the best fit I could imagine for that team.

I'm assuming that Joe Dumars will get his wish and have an all-new cast of characters next season, and that cast of characters won't be as good at flopping as the current ensemble.

Why do you think that? I'm kind of wary of Bosh.

If the Heat front office doesn't believe Beasley to be the best player available, then they don't take him. That simple.

  33. phunwin

phunwin Happy kids are Dolfans. Luxury Box

I'm not going to dignify that with a response.

Well, for starters, I think he's simply a better player. But besides that, I think Bosh meshes with Wade's game a little better than Boozer. I think he's better in a faster-paced game, I think he's more comfortable in the open court, he's three years younger, and he's got a better jump shot. I think Wade needs a running mate, and he needs someone who won't clog the lane when he drives to the hoop.

If they sign Marion long term, and keep Wade from opting out, they should still have enough money to lure Bosh (if he opts out) in the summer of 2010. Wade, Marion and Bosh would be an absolutely terrifying team on the fast break, especially if they found a cost-effective point man who could run. (If they wanted to become Suns East, they could trade down for Russell Westbrook for that purpose.)

You're presuming we don't draft someone who can run with Wade. I don't see why Rose or Mayo can't do what you're suggesting, and I don't see how Boozer would get in Wade's way.

There is no way we can afford Wade, Marion longterm, Rose/Beasley/Mayo, and Bosh/Boozer. Marion would most likely be the odd man out

Marion's contract expires after the upcoming season. I have no problem letting him walk, but I would rather trade him to get something back for him.

If we move Marion then it's going to have to be for an All-Star player or a guy who expires in 2009 or 2010. That's why I think Marion & Banks for Marbury & #6 makes a lot of sense for Miami. We get a high pick out of it, and Marbury expires after the season.

Also, I've been hearing that Beasley measured in at 6'7 at his workout with Chicago. WTF?

Like I said, his height doesn't concern me too much because he's got great bulk and can still grow, but what's up with so many different measurement numbers with this kid......

In fact, I'm presuming you WILL draft someone who can run with Wade. It won't be Rose, since he'll be gone. But Mayo certainly can. And while Boozer won't be an obstacle on offense, he's much more of a back to the basket, half-court guy than Bosh. Don't get me wrong, being able to pick between Boozer and Bosh is a nice problem to have, and either would do well. But Bosh is more conducive to an open-court game.
