it's pretty obvious if you look at his stats from last season and how well he played that there's plenty of reason to have optimism. and he's a much better fit for our system than the system they have in KC, which fits Cassel and Croyle more.
I find the Thigpen pick up intrigueing...he's known as a scrambling QB, and he has a solid arm...what on our team could use a mobile QB that is a double threat as a scrambler...hmmm?
I like the move. Just because he got beat out by Brodie Croyle doesn't mean he wasn't the better QB. You can never have enough young, solid QB's. What this really does is cast a shadow of doubt on Pat White. Thigpen is bascially White 2.0
I apologize if this has already been posted, but I was listening to 810 (local sports radio here in KS) on my way to work today. According to Jason Cole the pick we traded is a conditional pick. Specifically he stated "if he plays well it's probably a 5th rounder, but more than likely it will end up being a 6th or 7th rounder." The host asked if he thought it was possibly a 2nd or a 3rd, but his answer was a resounding no, on the basis it was a mid-season trade for a 4th string QB. No link, but some of you may rest a little easier knowing we gave up very little in terms of compensation for him.
the one stat that i find glaring is 1-10 as a starter. also, kc ran a spread last year for him, so i'm not sure his ideal system works. i like the move too. i figure we got him for aleman and ndukwe. he should be nice depth, but not a reason to get over excited.
They were trying to trade him after they acquired Matt Cassel. So it's really no surprise they let him go cheap. He is a project QB like White with a little experience. I guess the FO feels if Henne gets beat up too bad they can throw in Thigpen since he has already been down that path in KC.
Tyler Thigpen is a QB in the NFL with definitive results, on a piss poor O-Line, on one of the worst teams in the league.
he's 25 years old & has the potential to compete for the start, as well as back up no more mediocre than Henne, with far more NFL experience. excellent development this move was undoubtedly well studied and in the plans in case Pennington went down Competition is the Elixir of Success! Kudos to the FrontOffice.
Not to mention that their D last year gave up over 27 points per game... How would he have doen with a Defense like the Raven's or Pits or Atlantas??? Maybe a partial reason why Flacco and Ryan did so well their rookie year... and I do also believe that Big Ben goes as their Defense goes...
