Though he’s been a member of Bill Belichick’s coaching staff in New England since 2000, Johnson obviously has close ties to Bill Parcells. He was one of the first players Parcells drafted upon joining the New York Giants in 1986, arriving as a second-round pick, and played on Super Bowl championship teams in 1987 and 1990.

Johnson was considered a candidate for the New York Giants’ D-coordinator job that went to former Buffalo coordinator and interim head coach Perry Fewell last week.
At 45, Johnson could bring youth and vitality to the Dolphin defense. And while his D-line didn’t have the best year in 2009, it did a credible job considering the Richard Seymour trade and injuries that impacted its performance. New England ranked 13th against the run this year.

Pepper has moved up his coaching career and could be a good DC as he has played and coached in the NFL.

Yes he could bro, especially if he gets passed over for the DC position with the Pats again as the article states it is likely to happen. He would have the fire, and desire to prove Bill made the wrong choice. Plus he would have a lot of background about Bill when we played twice a year as to his thinking.:wink2:

Agreed. Also think he might be able to help out the young'ns like Langford, Merling, and Dotson. And let's not forget his outstanding career as a LB that could definitely do some good too.

Hey FFIC! Long time no see! How've you been?

I agree that Pepper Johnson would be a valuable asset to our defense. His knowledge of schemes and the ins and outs of the 3-4 defense could be just what the team needs. Plus I don't think it hurts that he and Parcells have a good relationship.

It would be great to have Pepper run our defense. I think if we can pry him away from the Pats it would be a great hire and help progress our defense.

I couldn't stand Brian Cox. Probably my all time Dophins player I like the least. And that was confirmed one day when I found myself hanging with Ron Heller. I showed him the morning paper (with Cox holding up his new Bears jersey), and he rolled his eyes and said "good riddance". Ron then proceeded to vent, and cemented my thoughts on why I couldn't stand the guy. Good riddance was right. What a tool.

You have to wonder why he's been passed over at least two times now and possibly a third. It's a big jump (mentally) to go from a position coach to a coordinator. As a position coach, you're more focused on teaching technique. A coordinator must know that too but they also must know how to use personnel properly, strategy, game planning/management, etc. I have no idea, but maybe that's one reason why Johnson hasn't made the move -- Belichick doesn't believe that he can make that jump yet.

I got to agree. No one know's more about his coaching ability that Bilichick and if he's not good enough for him then I certainty don't think he's good enough for us. It was different with Butler. Everyone in Pittsburgh anointed him the heir apparent to Dick LeBeau.

Does anyone know if there are any attractive candidates in the remaining playoff teams? Maybe we're making a push there (hoping and praying there is)

We're supposed to be interviewing Jets LB Coach Bob Sutton once they're done. The closer we can get to matching Ryans scheme, the better off we'll be in my opinion. Leslie Frazier of Minnesota would be nice, but he's going to be a head coach sooner rather than later.
