his problem is focus and consistency but time is running out. he's got 10 weeks to ressurrect his career. honestly, i seriously doubt he has the committment needed to succeed. still we have nothing to replace him with. as disappointing as he is, he is our best receiver so we are stuck with him until we find an adequate replacement and unlike the wishes of some posters here, that replacement isnt on our roster currently

You get open by running good routes... That is one of the reasons Ginn is rarely open. He does not run good routes. On the flip side OJ McDuffie found ways to get open because he ran good routes.

Is Hartline there? I don't know... but what I do know is that Ginn is not... after 2 and a 1/2 years.

He's open quite a bit actually, so running good routes must no be the only way if he doesn't run good ones.

nothing is absolute, Ginn gets open from time to time with his speed. He also runs good routes from time to time (Jets /Revis TD). Having said that, I am not buying the quite a bit thing...

i'm not sure what buttons are needed to be pressed to get Ginn to perform. This is an area where Parcells needs to get involved. He's the best at determining at whether the carrot or the stick is the best option. maybe parcells has determined the carrot approach isnt working and has switched to the stick. I just dont see us sabotaging ourselves by doing this. You would kill the running game and passing game by doing this. Even if Ginn doesnt catch anything Ginn's speed is too valuable to get rid of. As much as we like to talk about heart and intangibles and being football players and not atheletes the bottom line is this is a game of speed, power and matchups. Zach Thomas is an exception and not the rule

Try to scare Ginn to get his game more consistent. If that doesnt work then try to get him the ball so you keep his trade value relatively higher than it would be if you flat out becnh him. You have this guy for at least two more months so learn to live with it. Move him around from outside to inside. Try to match him up against safeties and lesser cornerbacks.

What you dont do is bench him in favor of a 4.5 or 4.6 guy. Bench Bess before Ginn. Bess runs a 4.7 or something. Philip Merling is probably faster than Bess

it does seem kind of contradictory. if he does not run good routes how is he open enough to get the ball thrown to him and thus piss off the fo by dropping the catches........

Makes one wonder where Branon Marion would have fit in if he had not retorn his ACL.

Watching Miles Austin come of age in Dallas and you know they can spot talent at Wr, which makes P Turner's disappearance even more consternation causing.

But knowing Ginn, he will have a great game against the Jets, that is just how he plays, boo him and he plays better, cheer him and he disappears.

If we replaced Ginn with Hartline we would probably have the slowest receoiving corps since the 1940s

I'm with this opinion. It's just gone on too long to keep making excuses. We though we had issues with everything not Ginn on this team, and everything has changed but that. If Ginn is getting his playing time taken away for a 4th round pick it's no ones fault but his own.

agree, which is why the kid gloves may be coming off for Ginn. Maybe he needs the threat of losing his job to get motivated or maybe he's simply one good game one bad right now

Two guys I wouldnt mind looking at are Dexter Jackson of Appalachian State (Panthers) and Todd Watkin s of BYU (Raiders). Panthers just got Jackson but maybe they will cut him and Watkins has crazy speed and is starting to play a bit for the Raiders

Exactly. Say Hartline or Turner can't rack up the YAC.

That's fine, provided they catch a higher ratio of their targets.

They'd still compile more yardage than TGJ just because of his staggering amount of drops.

I'd like to see someone try to say that Hartline can't rack up the YAC after yesterday.

Same problem Adamp...they don't know the offense.

And as much as I like Greg C and Hartline, they are hardly threats enough to cause a cushion at the LOS making quick completitions possible for Henne.

Odd that Ted Ginn of all people can hold an entire offense hostage, but that is what is happening strategically speaking, a couple of the Practice Squad guys are interesting, but there is no room on the roster.

I expect Roth to be activated for the Jets game, if he is healthy, the Saints gashed us for 128 yds on the ground...

    What we said all along...

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/10/26/ted-ginn-heads-back-to-the-tunas-doghouse/

"Mort also said that, if the trade deadline were tomorrow instead of last Tuesday, the Dolphins would be dialing up the Ravens and offering Ginn to the team whose offensive coordinator, Cam Cameron, drafted Ginn in 2007 with the ninth overall pick.

So why didn't the Dolphins do it last week? In hindsight, it would have been a great time to sell high, with Ginn looking great against the Jets.

As a result, Miami missed an opportunity, and now they're stuck with Ginn through the balance of the season.

Unless they eventually decide to cut him."

I'm 99% sure he won't be here in 2010. If this is true, The Fins realize they should have traded. But, like it said, we're stuck with him now. Might as well find something for him to do. The nightmares of Cam Cameron will have to continue on for now. On the plus side maybe next time they'll realize not to fck things up in FA, and get us a WR.

You tought this catch Ginn made as something reliable. Revis bit on a pump fake, then couldn't recover.

It's not like Ted Ginn makes that happen every game. HE DOES HOWEVER, get a drop or gator arm a pass at least once a game.

I officially gave up the Ginn pipe dream after the Indy game.

Arguably his second best game as a pro. But when the chips were down he showed he just plain didn't have the guts.

yeh i think we rolled the dice on Ginn and it doesnt look good so far. but we're stuck with him now. Hartline can replace Camarillo or Bess but not Ginn. Noone we have can replace Ginn. Going to have to wait till next year, unless Ginn suddenly becomes DeSean Jackson

It's certainly deserving. I just hope Ginn uses this as a sort of constructive criticism to get better... I wish him the best of luck no matter what happens, he's a class act.

I really wanted him that draft, but he has been a complete underachiever (whether by injury, qb talent, or performance) from what I thought he could do, until this year.

Brian Hartline's Draft Analysis from NFL.com Just providing fuel for the fire

    Analysis
Positives: Good height and an athletic frame. Good initial quickness off the snap. Better football player than overall athlete. Does a lot of the little things well. Reliable route-runner. Lacks elite burst out of his snaps, but runs them with precision. Good body lean and utilizes head fakes and varying speeds to help generate separation. Good hands. Tough. Will take a big hit and hang on to the ball. Good downfield blocker. Stalks defenders at the second level and can supply a big hit. Experienced special teams player.

Negatives: Lacks the eye-popping athleticism to offer much upside. Doesn't have the straight-line speed to challenge over the top. Lacks burst out of his breaks. Generally reliable hands, but has some ugly drops when he's trying to make a move on the defender before securing the pass.

I still give him until the end of the year... if he is making the same mistakes at the end of the year... then yeah... do what you need to. Until then, I don't think we should reduce his role.

Well thus far I'd say the majority of the game Ginn has been in has been covered up with safety help. I don't really see that with Cam or Bess maybe Hartline now because he is the 2nd fastest Receiver on the team.

Bottom Line: We have TWO pro bowl running backs. We need to trust them with the ball in the 4th quarter. We can't abandon that in the 2nd half like we did against the Chargers and Saints.

I want Ginn to do well, I really really do. I don't hate the kid, and in a lot of ways I'm thinking he's a victim of his draft position.
However, you can't excuse the drops this year.
It's weird, because he had pretty reliable hands last year.
Hopefully, if there is reduced pressure on him to be "the guy", he'll maximize his opportunities.

I guess I'm just trying to keep the glass half full.
