MERGED: Glenn Dorsey vs. Chris Long

i want Chris Long

Really a toss up for me. Health is the biggest issue. IF Dorsey is healthy thorughout the physicals/combines etc etc, Id like him, although Long is very intriguing. He could be a major stud.

Dorsey has been injured. On top of that, Long is a monster.

I'll take Chris Long.

Don't want a defensive lineman at #1, sorry.

I like Glenn Dorsey alot more than I like Chris Long for Miami.

Long to me looks like he's going to end up as a strictly 4-3 DE, rather than someone who can play in a 3-4 well. He's like Patrick Kerney, or a rich man's Matt Roth, someone who has the frame to bulk up, but probabaly should be playing in the 270-280 range.

You're almost certainly going to be disappointed. Bill Parcells philosophy is that you spend your biggest resources on athletic big men, because those are the most difficult and rare to find, and he's a strongly defensive guy. When you look at the top 5 in this draft, it's very possible that Darren McFadden is the only non-DL taken.

Only if he drafts a Punter in the first round. Thats all i can see.

Not saying i want McFadden. I love Ronnie. In a man-crush sort of way no less. But i didn't want Ginn either, but knowing what he can do for our offense made it okay with me. It'd be kind of the same with McFadden. He's not high on my list though.

As i said, Dorsey's #1. Then Chris Long.

I think based on need that Dorsey is the pick. The middle of our line was atrocious this year against the run. If Parcells can fill the middle via free agency (probably what he wants to do), they would go for Long but I think right now the pick has to be Dorsey.

Looking at that video I would be happy to have him in the middle for the next decade or so.

Yeah, ya think? Looks to me like he drafted in the first round:

The Skill guys:
3 QB's that all were a success.
1 WR that was a success
2 DB's 1 success and 1 early but good.
Total of 6 and all good players

The Big Guys:
4 DE's, 1 a success, 1 a bust, 2 looking good but early.
2 LB's 1 success and 1 bust.
1 TE (blocking variety) 1 not so good (Anthony Becht)
Total of 7 and 4 good players

Hell, going by that he is much better not picking big men. Kinda blows the theory on the street about what is and isn't a safe pick, at least for Parcells.

Again I just don't see how you can ignore Miami averaged 13 points a game the last half, yes without Ronnie but we are always without Ronnie.

I take nothing out of a highlight reel, it is after all a "Highlight" reel, on the Dorsey one looks like they got all his 5 1/2 sacks....ohhh, nice.

it really depends on how much dorsey weighs at the combine. to be honest, i would be shocked if he weighs over 300lbs right now. which is way too small for a NT

Man I am torn between Dorsey/Chris Long. Really there is no need for Chris Long because we Have Rod Wright. We need someone who can push the Middle.

I would love our front three to look like this

Rod Wright Dorsey Holiday (rotating with Paul Solial and Matt Roth)

I agree if Rod Wright can play this year the way we've been waiting for, he and Dorsey could be an outstanding young 1-2 punch. I'm not sold that Holliday is sticking around, though. Matt Roth has not shown me that he is what we had hoped for, either.

If either Roth or Soliai could develop along with Wright and Dorsey, then we have 3 young studs on the DL... obviously DL and conditioning coaches are going to be key here.

Why do you think he can't play in a 3-4 well? Were the last three years as a 3-4 DE, having Al Groh say he's the 2nd best player he's ever coached and having the school already retire his jersey not enough evidence that's he's been a pretty darn good 3-4 DE?

He? He wasnt solely in charge of personnel decisions in some of his stops.

Are you going to sit there and tell me that the "Planet Theory" isnt Parcells philosophy? Or are you going to tell me that the general consensus at the top of this draft isnt DL?

Whenever I saw him play, he wasnt lining up like a true 3-4 DE. He was lined up outside of the tackles. When I saw him heads up on the tackle and being run at, he didnt impress me a whole lot.

You haven't seen him play very much then, because it's nearly impossible to not come away impressed. He's been drawing double teams yet racking up sacks and stuffing the run as a 3-4 DE his entire career. He plays both end positions and they occasionally move him inside and can even drop him back in coverage as an OLB, but he's primarily been a 3-4 DE, the best the school's ever seen.

When Al Groh says he's the best player in the country, you'd better believe Bill Parcells is going to listen.

Wow this could explain our failures in some of our previous drafts. Looking at our drafts in the early 2000s is like a whos who of busts.

Oh and Chris Long is a manbeast, Dorsey gets hurt or is limping evertime I see him play. No Thanks.
