I'm not in love with this move PR, we are exposed on the passrushing side of the ledger, toss in Davis and Smith having to play at a high level before Nolan can become to creative and this is not shaping up to be more of a decent, rather than outstanding late offseason.
As I posted in Club, looks like a decent signing. Like the scouting report on him, seems to have some upside. Also cue collective sigh from not signing Adalius Thomas Padre in 3..2..1..
Stanley was a 2006 6th round pick by the Cowboys - there's your connection right there. I think this front office is set with idea of having Wake and Misi as the starting OLBs come day one, and relying on Charlie Anderson to fill in if one of them doesn't pan out right away. Given the coverage responsibilities that Nolan requires of his SOLB, Adalius Thomas really doesn't make much sense at this point in time; his pass-rush pressure comes from the WOLB (Wake is our Dumervil) and the DL/blitzing of the ILBs, not necessarily from both OLB spots.
you're not going to get anyone worth anything yet. montavious has flashed some talent before. he just wasnt consistent enough. its probably the best we can do right now. if we can find a legit NT somehow I could see moving Starks back to DE
Or...maybe he is the under tackle in our switch to the 4-3? Eh, Camp Body at worst, one more guy to take a shot at Soliai's job at best.
I dont think we're finding any starters at this point of the year. Montavious is a Rotational guy, who has the athletic skills but just never put it together consistently. He's a project. Low risk. Also Marques Douglas is too old and too small for our Bullough type 3-4 DE IMO (we'll see what Nolan runs however) so I dont think he starts either. At least he can give us minutes and a good report on what the Jets are running on defense
