Just got back from the IMAX....absolutely brilliant film. Heath Ledger's performance was beyond words in my opinion. I was sad that he met his end so early in life, now I'm depressed about it. He is the Joker. It will take 2-3 generations before we see another director tackle Joker v. Batman because NO ONE will do the job Heath did IMO. I disliked Jack's Joker at the time, he was too "clownish". Looking back, after seeing what Ledger did with it I despise Jack's Joker.

Like BDH above me, I'm off to the "spoiler" thread...been itching to get in there.

I honestly think Catwoman would be the best villian for this type of batman, because you could do a really good dark and sadistic catwoman. I think had they not killed rachel she could have been the character, because her and bruce would have that relationship.

I'm going again next week with the g/f. I went to IMAX today and if you have not seen it in IMAX I recommend it big time.

I was reading a article on the chances of the next appearances. Catwoman was rated highest by nolan for chance to be in the movie. The riddler was like a b. Catwoman was a a-. There was a few others.

I wanted to see it in IMAX the first time but couldn't get tickets but it doesn't matter where I see it I just want to watch it again and will be very difficult waiting for the Blu-Ray release. One of the best movies I have ever seen.

It's so much better I think it's kind of insulting to him. People are too caught up in Jack's name.

I think Jacks was just as good, it was a totally different character, totally different batman. There have been numerous versions of batman and the joker in comics, it just comes down to which one you prefer. Jack nailed the joker they were going for, Heath nailed to joker they were going for here. If you exchanged the actors for the roles I don't think it would have worked as good.

I agree you couldnt exchange them, and that they were both good for the movies they were in. I'd disagree that Jack was just good though. But I clearly prefer the more recent versions.

They always announce the 3 day gross before Sunday is done. They do estimates and the real figures come out Tuesday are usually bang on to the prediction

    So it already includes Sunday

I really hate this Hollywood marketing scam. I wish "journalists" weren't so willingly in on it.

Inflation guarantees that every few years some new movie is going to become "the highest grossing" this or that.

I know why Hollywood studios prefer this, I just don't get why reporters don't just do a little work and tell us how many actual tickets were sold.

To me it wasnt even using too many villians, it was "emo Peter Parker" that completely ruined what couldve been a good movie.

Id like to ask people how in the heck can Superman Returns can be seriously considered a good superhero movie, especially after seeing TDK. Superman Returns is equivalent to Batman & Robin. I know no one has mentioned Superman, but Im wondering why that movie is given so much praise..?

It started off pretty well and it's a solid movie, not necessarily spectacular, and I never saw it getting that much praise. Generally critics and audiences gave it a B, which is about right. Boggled down thanks to poor miscasting of Lois Lane and convoluted villain plot. Minus those two, and I'd give it a grade bump. I saw it in 3D so that gave me the extra bump in enjoyment. But Singer really should've finished the X-Men trilogy first. Besides, it's a miracle this one even got off the ground. Comparing it to Batman & Robin is just wrong. Nothing can be as worse as that movie. And try comparing Superman Returns with Superman IV and you'll be clamoring that SR should've gotten an Oscar for Best Picture. Richard Roeper said it best: "while I can't call it a home run, I'll say it's a solid base hit."

Now as far as the Dark Knight is concerned...

I thought it was a great movie and Ledgers performance was incredible. He didn't just act like the Joker ...as no disrespect to Jack but he 'acted' like the Joker...no, no Ledger WAS THE JOKER.

In fact I was disappointed that they didnt show more of him... I wish they would've cut out 50% of the Harvey Dent/Two Face scenes and put in more Joker scenes...

There was a point in the movie where I turned to my wife and said screw this I want to see the Joker again.

I don't think that Ledger could've topped this performance even if he had the chance.

TDK was easily the best batman movie yet in my opinion. Ledger's role as a villian was equally as inspiring and dark and as Brandon Lee in The Crow, though the comparison ends at the posthumous release.

I did hit a mantinee on Sunday and the theater was still packed.

Its hard to compare since the style of the characters are different, but Heath Ledger did a much better job IMO.

Yeah I'd definately see this movie again.

Maggie Gylenhall has a nice body supposedly.

    Two-Face looked pretty dead there

It was an excellent film, possibly the best comic-book movie ever.
I dont see how they could recast the role of the Joker after Ledger's performance.
Its a damn shame he died.

Saw it on Sunday....what a film.

it deserves a Oscar Nod. Ledger..an Oscar.

BTW, maggie Gylenhaal doesn't even have a body. Her only appeal is her acting prowess. She is the only thing out of place in the film.

    Stop hating on Maggie,
she's dead anyway now so no need to worry about about her in the third film.
she did a decent job in the flick, and looks only slightly more ******ed than Katie Holmes. What a movie, outstanding. One pet peeve I had was the fact that Gotham city lost it's unique look that it was given in the first film. Looked like any other city in the Dark Knight. I totally dug the Gotham license plates on the cars however.

    Why So Serious?

I posted this in another thread, but I figured I'd put it here as well.

Every once in a while, a film comes along that, despite all the hype, fails to live up to expectations. Luckily, The Dark Knight is not one of those films. This is easily the best movie sequel I've seen since the Empire Strikes Back - and arguably the best sequel to an original film of all-time. The Dark Knight is one of those rare sequels - much like Godfather II, Empire, and Wrath of Khan, that is not only on par with the original, but actually better. Nolan has succeeded in crafting one of those rare sequels that builds upon the successes of the first film - taking one of the main themes, escalation, quite literally. Like Wall-E, the Dark Knight is also one of the few films that take a standard genre – in this case, the summer comic book movie – and delivers much, much more.

Whereas Iron Man showed us a billionaire playboy who seems to become a hero just because it's the ultimate adrenalin rush, in Dark Knight we see Bruce Wayne using that playboy image as a means to an end. I love that we see Bruce out in the daytime, doing recon. While Stark always seems to be having fun, we get the impression that Wayne is fighting his own private war against crime, and using every resource at his disposal to win - regardless of whether it is ethical or practical. Ledger is getting a fair amount of press as the Joker; by all means he should (and I'll get to his performance in a minute), but Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne is perfect. We actually get to see The World's Greatest Detective doing detective work, something that wasn't shown in Batman Begins. Bale should go down as the best actor to play the role, period.

Heath Ledger. Simply amazing in the role of the Joker. You can't take your eyes off the screen when he's on. Just an amazing performance. Ledger's Joker is completely unhinged, just absolutely out of his mind. We have no idea if the Joker is really in control of everything, or if he's just winging it as he goes along. This is the most frightening version of the Joker ever conceived. There's no vat of acid, no back story to the Joker in this film. He simply shows up and goes on a crime spree. It's as if fate guided him to this point, and that's all we really need to know. Batman can't reason with him. Can't intimidate him. The Joker exists to cause death and destruction. No more, no less. This is simply one of the best bad guy portrayals of all time. Ledger is Oscar worthy here.

The rest of the acting and characterization down the cast is spot-on. Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent is truly amazing, and the makeup effects in the third act are just sick. Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon is spot-on, again. Morgan Freeman's Lucius Fox, and of course Michael Caine as Alfred. Maggie Gyllenhaal is an improvement as Rachel Dawes. Everyone just carries their role so perfectly.

There's a variety of different themes explored throughout the movie. Obviously the main theme of this movie was "Escalation," which was alluded to at the end of Batman Begins. There's other things explore, like Order vs. Chaos. It's almost as if Gotham is another character in the film, a girlfriend that the Joker and Batman are fighting over. There are themes of human nature explored - I love the fact that the Joker believes he can drag anyone down to his level, even Batman. Then there's some specific alliteration.
Harvey Dent is consistently referred to as "The White Knight" throughout the film, yet at the end of the film, newly appointed Commissioner Gordon refers to Batman as "The Dark Knight," which is a perfect close to the film, as it not only harkens to the title, but also closes the book on Harvey Dent as "The White Knight."
This could have come across as cheesy, but Nolan handles it well enough that it makes sense within the context of the movie. I'm sure there are more themes to be explored, but it will probably take a second viewing to really appreciate them.

This has been a great summer for cinema. I can say, easily, that this is the best adaptation of the comic book medium on film, ever. Nothing even comes close. In fact, I would go so far as I love that I forgot I was watching a "comic book" movie. Nolan has succeeded in elevating the genre beyond guys in tights and bad guys with one-liners. This is not simply a summer action movie. This is a hard-boiled film noir crime drama, and it is simply amazing. The film is deserving of all the praise it is getting, and should get serious consideration as the Best Picture of the Year. 5/5.

She was Rachel Weisz? I would've taken Rachel Weisz over Gyllenhaal any day. She looks like a ****in Greek goddess compared to Gyllenhaal.

Ledger deserves an Oscar for saying Gyllenhaal was beautiful in that charity scene. The true testament to Dark Knight is that even with Gyllenhaal's sub-par acting and sub-par looks, it still came out a good movie.
