well like Padre pointed out he has some type of injury. Hopefully he is healthy and we could have a pro-bowl return man

Has to be some problem with his knee. Too good to be true doesn't happen this time of year for free. We can hope though.

-Had a concussion last season after being cheap shotted by Dante Wesley of the Panthers

-Had inflammation in his knee, not a tear or lose stuff once that subsides he'll be fine

-Cut by Tampa for the same reason Stefan Logan was waived by Pitt, KR's are either Wr's or Db's, as that provides more flexibility on the roster.

And they had Sammie Stroughter and Spurlock to fill his roles.

He could be one of those wk #2 deals, that way no fuss if he re-injures himself.

My opinion..I'd love to have him if healthy, he offers instant production, is 25yrs old, and he is cheap to sign.

This is one of those low risk high reward types of moves, if he pans out, we replaced Ginn's 1,700k yards, if not, he cost us a couple of game checks.

Well, think of Micah Johnson as Crowder insurance, if Channing can't go Sunday we won't sign Smith, if Channing can go, Micah can be sent to the practice squad and we can sign Smith.

It will be like this all season Aqua, the back half of the roster are all expendables and Irish will expend them. Heck Micah is already on borrowed time with signing Carpenter, carrying 5 ILB's is unheard of.

If he could run one back and kick the ball out of the back of the endzone we would have something there.

exactly. We bring in guys to play special teams who may rarely see the field at their regular position, so why not bring in a returner whom you at least know will see a handful of touches every game. Having a current DB, RB, or WR doubling as a returner is great and all..... IF the player has any skills at doing so.

Heck, if it weren't for Ginn's big returns verse the Jets, we lose that game.

Wallace is the #4 Wr, why wouldn't Moore be moved to the PS?

Or one of the four players they signed like Reitz?

I'd be all for moving a Developmental Olineman to the PS in favor of instant production from the Return game.

I agree with this. I assume the only reason Wallace is ahead of Moore is size. Moore was better in preseason but he is what we already have IMO.

Hmm, I thought Wallace was more of a playmaker in the preseason, Moore was solid but Wallace was creating things.

In Dallas he made plays when he was covered, Moore got open but didn't show that same type of talent.

Better get a real threat returning back there. Got a feeling we'll see a lot of him right after Allen gets burnt deep or flagged for interference. If he's healthy and as advertised, bring him in.

I'm with you. I traveled all the way to Dallas to see it in person. I think that game saved his ***. I guess it was just my perception of the entire body of work. My perception can be off a bit at times from nine dollar beers.

True, True. But the Jets didn't cut him. The irony is that they would probably be one hell of a team with him now.

Yeah, you sorta have to lick the cup when they are that expensive.

I can see the conversation now:

Ireland: "Tone, Clifton looked great, 100%, if you want him we can sign him today"

Sparano :" Sure sounds good, who am I losing"

Ireland : "how about the Reitz, who did not play football in college.."

Sparano: "no, **** no, not my lineman, I'm kinda peeved with Smith though"

You sure? When's the last time this team under Sparano dressed 5 WRs for a game? I don't think it ever has. Perhaps they remove someone from another positions, but that 5th WR isn't a necessity, especially when you have someone on the practice squad.

Like who on the practice squad?
Can you guarantee that if we move one down, he won't get poached?
How valuable are the guys that just hit the bottom of the roster that you or I have never heard of?
Say Marshall tweaks a hammy for a game or two. How do you feel about it then?

Ugh. This FO sitting here spinning it's wheels over who the return man is going to be less than 1 week before kick off begs the question:

Why did we get rid of Ted Ginn?

Smart move, Ireland and company. Get rid of a great return man because he didn't live up to his draft status as a WR. The failure in this decision will be complete when Nolan Carroll washes out and Ted Ginn has just 1 big return for San Francisco. Because I can almost guarantee we will have none of those this year.

Volin has an article up, since Smith is just having the tires kicked it is not really threat worthy:

    http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports...ill-try-out-kick-returner-clifton-902219.html

Ginn was averaging what 24.7 ypa?

Cobbs was at 22 or so ypa, but would be around 20ish ypa save for some fake end arounds to Ginn on 2 kick offs.

Clearly he is an upgrade, if healthy, and Sparano trusts him not to fumble.

I hope we sign him barring injuries, in 08 he had the 5th best average returning kicks and 2nd returning punts, in 09 he had the best average returning kicks and he was 11th returning punts.

To answer the question: In class.

In all seriousness, hope the kid makes it and does well... for all of our sakes (but especially for my blood-pressure's sake) Bess is a cripple and Cobbs is just... no; Carroll is clean but looks frail for some reason.

    Right back :knucks:

I also don't see them cutting a Wr to add a Rb.

Reitz is a good candidate as is Parnell

Fumbles were mostly at Rb I believe. Simple fix is don't play him at Rb. Just use him as a return man...

As I said, they very well could cut someone else. But in the grand scheme of things, are Roberto Wallace and Marlon Moore any more valuable than Julius Pruitt, who is on the practice squad? None of them have caught a pass in the NFL. Clifton Smith is a proven returner; Wallace and Moore have proven nothing.

I'd be willing to bet that if Marshall were to miss a significant amount of time that a WR with experience would be brought in rather than bumping up Wallace or Moore to the #3 spot, wouldn't you? I'd be pretty dissapointed if we didn't. It's my personal opinion that having a 5th WR on this roster is almost obsolete and many people put too much value in it since this regime won't dress one on gameday. The only way I could see it is if that 5th WR were a return specialist.

They both looked like they have game. Bess was undrafted also. I see your point but I fear one of them would get poached. He is a returner only probably for us and is the reason he is still floating around. I also think we will see more 3 and 4 wide this year hense having 1.5 tight ends.

We are carrying 1 more LB than we should also.

I would not be surprised at anything right now after this weekend.

Agreed, especially about the TE part. That one baffles me still. I have no idea why it's only Fasano and Nalbone, there's definitely something lacking there.
