Not really. Rookies can be good, or bad. Counting on a rookie to be good is a HUGE gamble. If he turns out to be another John Avery or Sammie Smith we are royally screwed. He's had NO OTA's or mini-camps. He supposedly has been working with Henne, but that does not make up for the loss of regular OTA's and mini-camps. Yesterday, Sparano said in his presser that he see's Bush as a feature back. Do you see him that way ? Was Sparano joking or serious ? If he was joking, that was a really weird time to do it. Bush cannot hold up to a constant pounding in the NFL, and has been injury prone. If he gets hurt, we again would be royally screwed.

Hey did I say there were great options ? No, but almost anything is better than what we had last year. So do you really feel Henne is the best option ? That Bush is the answer at RB and that we can't get better at the receiving position ?

I don't think anyone has suggested Bush is the answer at RB, I would say he is part of the solution along with Daniel Thomas and whoever else we sign.

Used correctly Bush could be a very effective player for us.

No there isn't and that was an upgrade. I have no problem with that. But someone else brought up the good citizenship crap, as if that really translates to anything on the field. If that was a real criteria, we wouldn't have Brandon Marshall on the team.

But last week, many of the rah-rah people were all just certain that Bradshaw or DeAngelo Williams would be here, or we'd go after Vince Young, Hasselbeck or someone else. None of them are here, and how much better did our 30th ranked offense get with Matt Moore here to push Henne ? Or Bush being a feature back ? Was Sparano kidding or joking ? The guy has averaged 12 games a season, and IIRC missed half of last season due to injury.

Ireland still has a lot of work to do IMO. So far its been a huge disappointment.

I agree, Bush can be excellent in a limited but effective role, but did you listen to the Sparano presser after aquiring Bush ? Either the man is delusional or joking. Bush as a feature back ? That's what he called him.....I see disaster if Sparano wants that.

Why judge a project, in this case free agency, until it is completed? Sit back and relax and let free agency play out a couple weeks, then see how it looks. Who else still available would you want to see us sign?
I'd have liked DWill or Bradshaw too, but I cannot blame Ireland for not wanting to pay the kind of contract DWill got, for such a position that has on average a short career and due to the nature of the position, a high pct of the injuries.

I think we won't be bad enough for Luck, but I will be following Barkley closely this year, even though I hate U$C.

Yup I want to see this team look at the Qb's behind Luck if Henne doesn't magically grow this season. That's why I couldn't get behind trading picks for Orton. Want those picks to be saved for a move up in the 1st round if need be.

I don't have anyone that they can sign that will be the difference maker. That is why I have been pretty negative since the draft. They are super afraid of committing to a QB and that will be their downfall, because they can't get it right. They messed up with the Ryan / Long pick, and it will haunt this franchise until the right QB is too be found. They put all their eggs in the Chad Henne basket and its not worked out as they expected. They tried to fix it with Orton, but that didn't work out either (who knows really why, but I suspect it was Orton that nixed it actually, he did not want to be here). Now they expect (unless there is a surprise coming) to go into a season with Henne/Moore/??? QB situation ? That will be as bad as McNown/Henne that we almost got until Penny fell into our laps. This is their 4th year, and QB is STILL the biggest question on the team. Enough is enough already !

Unbelievable, you build an offense throug the draft, and add a piece here or there by free agency. We did build thru the draft and add a key piece, bush, on top of that. Pouncey, Thomas, Gates and Clay. That is how we improved! I will take a chance on the rookie RB over the broken down vets any day of the week. Vets break down and get hurt.

So damn sick of the naysayers. Are we going to the superbowl? No. Silly to think any free agent in this weak-*** FA class would ge us there. Do we have reason for optimism that we cam compete for the division? Absolutely.
Life is too short to complain so much all the time

This is what Pro Football Focus had to say about him:
    http://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...ts-4-3-outside-linebackersinside-linebackers/

    From Rotoworld
I ask PFF this: "How is he against the run? Since that's what Crowder was mostly good at."
Their response: " he's good, not great. Will get pushed around more than Crowder.

Since I've never seen this guy play I have to depend on PFF for some info on his game.

Sorry, that was a bit presumptuous of me. I kinda thought that was done for some reason.

No, we got priced out and he's still reportedly far apart with the Giants too.

I blame posting way past my bedtime.

I wouldn't have paid Williams either (that contract is borderline insane), but there's little to suggest that Bradshaw, at 25 and with little wear and tear, doesn't have at least 3-4 peak years left that would absolutely merit a big payday. As far as the position goes, Bradshaw might well be the best bang for your buck since Michael Turner. So as far as things I'd have done differently goes, I'd have passed on Thomas (and added a 3rd down type of back later) and Bush and would have been prepared to make a Ahmad Bradshaw a very wealthy Miami Dolphin. In a couple of weeks, we'll have a first inkling as to how I'd have done compared to Ireland.

I doubt all 4 make the team. When was the last time a Jeff Ireland draft had his top 4 round picks be keepers ?

2008 - Jake Long, Philip Merling (may not survive this training camp), Chad Henne (he's here because they have to keep him), Kendall Langford, Shawn Murphy (horrible pick, not even in football to my knowledge) - so he was 3 and 2 and could be 1 and 4 if Henne & Merling don't pan out this year. That's a 20% success rate.

2009 - Vontae Davis (solid pick, and could be a starter for years), Pat White (not even playing football anymore), Sean Smith (another solid pick), Patrick Turner (oops !!!!), Brian Hartline (solid but not spectacular reciever - some question his heart) - 3 and 2 - 60 % success rate

2010 - Jared Odrick (looking like he could be a VERY shaky pick, injury prone, may be a huge bust), Koa Misi (had a good rookie year, still needs to get better), John Jerry (starter for now), A.J. Edds (injured, no real rookie season, I hope he learned a lot in off field classwork) - 2-1 with a ? on Edds because we have yet to see him play even in practice. So 2.5 - 1 (giving Jeff the benefit of the doubt of a half on Edds) or around 70 % success rate.

    20% + 60% + 70% = 50 % success rate.

So you expect Jeff Ireland, who only has about a 50 % success rate to ramp that up and make it 100% this year ? Okay, you do that. Odds are 2 of the 4 will fail. Which ones, who knows, but that is what Ireland's history tells us.

All of the 2008 top 4 made the team and have been on the team since. Hence all 4 are keepers. I don't know what kind of math you are using to get 20% made it out of those 4.

You will stop at nothing in your zeal to paint a negative picture of this team in any manner you can possibly conceive.

Ok Jake, here is the bet. I'll bet you all of our top 4 draft picks make the 53 man roster at the final cutdown, barring injury. Also barring injury, they will remain on the 53 man roster for the entire season. If they do, you make a $25 donation to thephins.com and if they don't, then I will make the same donation. Deal?

Making the team and making an impact as a starter are two different things.

And I just tell what I feel is the truth.

We are not appreciably better than the 7-9 team that ended last year on a 3 game losing streak, and won just 1 home game last year & also lost to Buffalo, Detroit and Cleveland - three perennial losing franchises - AT HOME no less. Then went to NE and looked like a team that had given up on their coach & starting QB.

I am not going to fake enthusiasm, to you and anyone else so they can feel good about themselves, and that's the bottom line. Just deal with it.

No bet, I make this bet, that all 4 make a HUGE contribution to the team and take us to the playoffs ? Bet ? If so you have to post a "Jake was right and I was wrong" thread.

Good old Jovial Jake uses a "special" kind of math, where 3 starters and another in the rotation out of 5 = 20%. A "Real Nellie" would have said that contracts will expire this year, we will not re-sign any of the 4, and will end up with a BIG 0. He is still a work in progress but, at least he is practicing a lot. LOL

No, what you and your gang are doing is bullying. Its a classic case of it. I disagree with your rah-rah enthusiam for the team, and you just can't stand it, so you are going to do whatever to try to get me censored or even banned. Very typical of boards like this.

The proof will be evident in a few weeks. I stand by my thoughts on this year - it will be a disaster and Sparano will be gone, and Ireland may be as well. Care to make a bet that will or won't happen ?
