You and Hawkings...two peas in a pod!

So, we started it up, it takes time to ramp up to speed "like NASCAR drivers" but why 4 years????

4 years? Everything I've seen said it's a matter of weeks. Maybe the experiment will continue for 4 years, but they can only operate this thing for so long before winter hits; it's such a huge energy drain that they need to turn it off to help heat homes in the winter.

Ok, so how did the Mayan predictions/associations come about in this thread?....is the prediction/premonition going to be that in 4 years something bad/wrong is going to happen with this thing to match the Mayan EOT prediction???

I believe the 4 years thing was how long some scientists predicted it would take for the "blackholes" to form and destroy the earth. The actual experiment only last a few months.

You can't.............. It is a limit. It isn't saying you are exceeding it is saying you will be exceeding 99.99999 percent of the speed light. So you'll be close but still won't be at the speed of light. Mathematically you can't even meet the speed of light hence why it is a limit.

Transformer glitch shuts down biggest atom smasher

GENEVA - The world's largest particle collider malfunctioned within hours of its launch to great fanfare, but its operator didn't report the problem for a week.In a statement Thursday, the European Organization for Nuclear Research reported for the first time that a 30-ton transformer that cools part of the collider broke, forcing physicists to stop using the atom smasher just a day after starting it up last week.

The faulty transformer has been replaced and the ring in the 17-mile circular tunnel under the Swiss-French border has been cooled back down to near zero on the Kelvin scale — minus 459.67 degrees Fahrenheit — the most efficient operating temperature, said a statement by CERN, as the organization is known.

When the transformer malfunctioned, operating temperatures rose from below 2 Kelvin to 4.5 Kelvin — extraordinarily cold by most standards, but warmer than the normal operating temperature.

CERN had not reported any problems with the project since its launch Sept. 10, but issued its statement shortly after The Associated Press called asking about rumors of troubles.

No, we're still doomed. Check this out: "Large Hadron Collider: Public Chooses Halo As Its New Name"

    Emphasis mine.

They think the term Halo has something to do with religion. Someone needs to sit these guys down in front of an Xbox, or at least Wikipedia. Sorry, pals, but no one is taking the name Halo to mean anything of religious significance, just sci-fi significance.

To quote GLaDOS, we're still alive.

I think something that's 17 miles long and as complex as the Large Halo Collider will inevitably have some kinks. They should take the time to examine the rest of the setup.
