Do not want. Especially if we are skipping over Patterson and Jones.

We shall see, no need to bang the drum now.

Would Cooper be the 2nd highest G drafted in rd #1?

John "hog" Hannah was taken with the #4 overall in 1973

Somehow I don't see Ireland taking a guard at 12. Not exactly the "core" / expensive player he talked about. IF we did, it would have to be for a LG which would mean we would get rid of Incognito or move him to RG....and then it's still a stretch.

I think any team that takes a guard has to be pretty complete all around. It's sort of a luxury pick IMO.

Jon Cooper gives you the most athletic guard coming out in a long time and you stick him next to the most athletic center in football. Hayden if he checks out physically is a terrific prospect at a need spot. I'm not a Sam Montgomery fan but if you changed the name to Alex Okafor or Devin Taylor or Mallicah Goodman, then that's a fairly tasty haul for the first three picks, answering two significant needs and adding one of the best pure players in the draft.

Coupled with what's happened in FA, not sure what there would be to complain about.

I think Chris Naeole might have gone top ten.

Mike Munchak was drafted 8th in '82 by the Oilers.
.... followed by Bruce Matthews 9th in '83.

Naeole went tenth overall in 1997. Last top ten guard and now OL coach at Hawaii.

The only issue I have with Cooper is the financial one, as in- how much will it cost us to re-sign him after a shorter rookie contract? $55 million? That's what, $110+ million for Pouncey & Cooper alone? IMO, with a guard like Cooper, there's a decent chance we lose him in FA b/c financially we might need that money spent elsewhere at a position more important than guard, whereas I can easily see Austin, Patterson, or Carradine being a re-signing priority b/c they play a core position. IMO we need another player we'll want to keep for 10 years from this 1st round pick, just like we've started with Pouncey & Tannehill.

I know what you're saying but I personally think you can't look at it that way.

I hope it wouldn't have the Dolphins taking Cooper over Warmack. I can't really agree with the opinion that's a better fit here. Warmack does more zone blocking than Cooper, and while he isn't as athletic he's good enough to handle what we need to do.
