I think McNabb will get a lot more consideration than people here do. Not only did he put up really good numbers but his team was at the top of the league for most of his prime years, he went to what 5 NFC Championship games and 1 SB? He certainly didn't have great WRs or a great team around him. McNabb had a much better career than Drew Bledsoe, I think they are comparable players but McNabb has a much better shot at the HOF than Bledsoe. I think McNabb is going to have some support for the HOF. People calling him crap or lazy, worthless, etc are basically clueless and don't watch the game enough.
He wasnt crap and worthless but with that system and that defense he underachieved and his #'s in championship games and the SB were pretty bad. The dude was a good QB put in a great situation, but a HOF he is not.
He had a good defense and good structure offensively but had a bad offense around him. Im not sure I can name a really good QB with worse players around him. He had all of 1 weapon his NFL career. TO, and look at his #s with TO. Their extremely good, and the team went to the superbowl. He had a really good RB that was constantly hurt. McNabb did a lot of good things with a make shift offense. Yes, the system was good, but the players were bad. And that system only made some players look good for a very short period of time, but a career. McNabb was damb good, and theres no way around it.
What QB has looked bad in that system? Garcia looked reborn with the same lack of weopans and the Browns gave him a ridiculous contract....
I never said anyone looked bad, all I said is the other QBs have only had very short success. The only other QB to look very good was Jeff Garcia and he only played for 6 games. He also has shown to have good seasons late in his career with other teams. Also, your facts are wrong, Browns signed him prior to the Eagles. He was reborn with the Eagles and played good for the Bucs after the Eagles. He just couldnt stay healthy with them. Show me all these QBs outside of Garcia, playing well in McNabbs absence.
Your right on the Browns thing, my bad. They all played well enough in that system to garner incredible VALUE for Philly and for themselves. Also Im not saying Mcnaab wasnt better than these guys, Im simply pointing out the success QB's appeared to have in that system. Chunky Soup was twice as good as those dudes....just NOT a Hall of Famer.
Well I understand they looked good enough to garner value for them, however that doesn't mean much. Garcia was actually a pretty damn good QB, so him having 6 games of success wasn't to out of this world. Every other QB they had flashed in very small doses and that is what I meant earlier when I said non of them had long term success. AJ Feeley was a guy that looked the part, had the arm, was young, didn't play the QB position to well, but I think its obvious what happened there. The guy that traded for him was an absolute idiot with roster moves and they were trying to duplicate what had just recently happened with Jake Delhomme. Kevin Kolb was a former first round pick that again, looked the part, had the arm, was over valued by a lot of teams coming out, and didn't embarrass himself when he got to play, as little as it was. So naturally a QB starved team was willing to give him a shot. I still have no clue what the hell people were thinking when giving up what they gave up. But still. I agree though, I don't think McNabb is a HOF. I think he is just outside that group. I think he was a pretty damn good QB, but he wasn't very GREAT, which is what HOF should be. I do think had he stayed healthy his whole career, he would of gotten in.
Can't argue with there. I never thought he had the Stomach for the big moment. Hes had good big games, but never been that good in the big moment. Had he done that, he would be in my HOF. But he didn't.
I will always like McNabb due to all the **** he had to endure from Philly fans and media. And he was still pretty damn good.
