Well, now we know why Mike McDaniel passed on a second interview for the Browns’ head-coaching job.

Via multiple reports, McDaniel will become the new offensive coordinator of the Chargers.

It gives McDaniel a chance to partner with coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback Justin Herbert. And it gives McDaniel an opportunity to author the kind of performance that sets him up to potentially become an A-list candidate in 2027.

McDaniel coached the Dolphins for four seasons, with a record of 35-33 in the regular season and 0-2 in the playoffs.

He had drawn head-coaching interest, and it’s apparently possible he could still pivot to a bigger job. As noted by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, no deal has been signed. He remains in play for the top jobs with the Ravens and Raiders.

McDaniel should have zero problems leading the Chargers to the number one offense next season.

Dont think playcalling was an issue with the chargers more so missing their two best offensive linemen.. we will see what he can do with the chargers.. wont be surprised if tyreek hill signs with the chargers on a cheap deal after getting released so that he can bring some familiarity to the offense

Great. We get at least another season of Tua -v- Herbert posts and arguments.

    Yaay.

If McDaniel runs the same offense in San Diego as he did in Miami, we'll see if Herbert is able to run it better than Tua did before his decline. This will be a very interesting case study if you will.

It's a great fit for him. He's going to turn the corner with Herbert. Say what you will about Herberts postseason struggles, he's very good, and McDaniel will be great for him. Big time win for the Chargers and Herbert.
