Mayock's top prospects at each position http://www.nfl.com/seniorbowl/story...emplate=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
Always interesting with Mayock. Sometimes I wonder if he likes to do some of his rankings for wow effect and his rankings are very fluid from now until the draft. I can't see how he has McCoy ahead of Suh. As good as McCoy is, that just seems crazy.
What's most impressive to me about Mayock is, with all of the insane amount of study he does on college prospects, he also watches a good amount of NFL game film and gives analysis on it for NFLN. The guy must eat, breathe, and sleep game film.
I remember in 2008 draft he picked every team's first round selection on the money during the draft. And this is always what I love about the guy is when a team does go the other way and draft someone he doesn't think they should have he doesn't automatically try and rip the team apart. He actually try's to see it from their point of view and points out the positives and the negatives of said player.
I love how he has Kyle Wilson so high, he's an underrated player. However, I dislike how high he has Perrish Cox. He's overrated IMO. Surprised by seeing Kindle that high, same goes for McCluster, and Tebow. Surprised by Mays over Thomas too. Bryan Bulaga is a very intriguing player. I was talking to CK about this at the Shrine game, Bulaga plays with a massive base. His base is so wide, you would think that you could tear him apart with a bulrush but he's also very strong.
Yeah, he does a great job of breaking down picks, and his segments on NFLN leading up to the draft are second to none. I don't necessarily like his preference to try and give some shock value with his early rankings and every draft he gets a man crush or two that gets a little annoying, but overall he's the best in the business.
He had to release his rankings when he did really. Right now he's covering the Senior bowl and explaining his reasons.
I'm not usually one to seriously criticize an OL for too WIDE a base. More likely too narrow. I think Bulaga's got a ton of potential, shouldn't be hard to iron out a few distasteful kinks, even if you need to in the first place.
BTW one thing about Mayock is, he'll change his mind about these rankings within 24 hours. In January a preponderance of his best players will have names that start with A thru L. In February, M thru Z. By March, he'll have a better perspective.
As he watches and evaluates these guys during the Senior bowl and then at the combine its his job to be fluid and change his mind.
He'll have new rankings in a couple days lol. I think we saw that last year, where he had a new one like every Friday. I'm not saying it's an awful thing and his downfall, it's just odd. It's very wide but he's still effective. Whatever works for him though.
I don't mean releasing them when he does, but rather his rankings themselves. He might be the only person in the world who has McCoy ahead of Suh, and I'd bet quite a bit they switch spots come draft time. I think in his initial rankings he likes to put out unconventional picks just to get people's attention. I can't remember who it was last year, but it was a similar position where he took a guy thought by everyone to be the clear #1 and had someone else ahead of him initially only to eventually change them around. It doesn't change the fact that he does an excellent job though.
Hard to say really. I am recording the senior bowl practices and I hope to get more insight as to why he set his order the way he has. Not sure if you got a chance to watch todays practice but it has Both Mayock and Corey Chavous from draftnasty.com. I really appreicate getting the insight from two former players. No offense to Kipper but there is only so much he can actualy bring to the table.
As much as I respect your opinion and I really do. But who's better than who will actually not be answered before or during the draft. That question will be answered during their careers. Right now its purely opinion and in Mikes opinion he isn't. As already stated its still very early. These opinions change daily each and every year. I don't expect this year to be any different.
