Read on .... (link) I'm speechless. Video of OTA #2 practice 5/28/09 via MiamiDolphins.com EDIT: also keep up with his tweets via sun-sentinel.
co-offense will be the story the base will be whatever works until they can stop it then we run the other one until they can stop it might look like 35% wildcat/spread with 65% conventional all depends on what they really want to do with it & how Pat White develops the Orca-5 will thrive in either offense & that is our ticket to win. it begins in the trenches.
The truth is this a pretty annoying report. One thing I can do without is the unnecessary dramatics. "I dare not describe some of the plays I witnessed today because I'm confident a sniper would get me when exiting the team's Davie facility." What????.....what does this really mean? Is this Omar's way of making himself feel superior to us? Now he knows something we don't? If an OTA, TC session, practice, etc, is open to the general media then they aren't trying to hide what you're seeing, obviously. So he needs to just report it. That's his job. When the time comes that the team is practicing plays that they want to keep to themselves they'll do it during closed practice sessions.
He's not saying it to be superior. What he means is that he feels like he saw so much.....or rather he can't believe they let the people there see that much because it seems like something they should be keeping secret. He doesn't actually think he will be shot or that he's better than us.
To me, I'd love to read or see how Cam Wake beat Big Jake for a sack, 'Nando said it was due to poor technique, Sparano hinted at it by saying "he has a problem dealing with speed and hand placement, that's (Jake's) weakness". If Wake is pressuring Big Jake Long, the Pro Bowler, we may have something in #91, the Staff just downplays everything.
Jake Long was beaten by Vernon Gholston in college and Gholston was a ghost last year. That one sack doesn't mean much in my opinion. When he does it more than once then it may be significant. That's the reason they probably down playing everything, IMO.
Depends Alen, Gholston simply blew by Jake...2 years ago....Big Jake is more experienced now, and he went to the Pro Bowl, he gave up what..3 sacks last season? for me, there is no reason to rave about a player in a presser, so it also could be better to say what Jake did wrong, over what Wake did right. I'd still like to see the play on video.
One thing you cant take away from TG is that he strives to learn. Im not happy that there are cases of dropsies. Not sure about the Shawn Murphy comment. He may be talking his value up, and looking to unload him before it became obvious that hes a bust? (a la Daniels?) But at the same time, i really doubt that. I literally have not heard a single positive thing about Murphy since he got drafted. Not happy about the fact that AT&T is working only on one side of the field, im hoping its temporary. Great players play both sides of the field. Jason Allen with the second team. Again, im not buying it yet, and something is telling me that we might get rid of him, if we will have the opportunity (Would you guys take a 5th for him?) Chris Williams? Who? Glad to hear that Bess looks bigger, for his 5'5 frame. lol Not sure why Omar is making a big deal out of London not returning kicks, punts; Ted Ginn Jr., Anthony Armstrong, Davone Bess, Brennan Marion and Williams, all of those guys are stupid fast (or in Besse's case, stupid quick) Now I was a DE, and I was a pretty decent DE, mainly relying on speed, im saying this, so it wouldn't seem like its out of the blue. I played against few guys who were D1 bound. Now think about it. Even if Wake DID blow by Jake on simple speed, Jake who is a 1 year pro, and a pro bowler, (which i doubt he beat him on pure speed) What does that say, about Wake's quickness? I know its OTAs. Im just trying to make a case here.
Because Long has improved from 2 years ago? When the sacks Jake gave up last season were listed, iirc, none of them were on speed rushes, Jake's game has gotten better, if Wake can still pressure him, then Wake may be closer to seeing the field then what could be reasonably expected.
It probably says he has a good first step. Jake's struggled with speed rushers before; it was his knock coming out.
Doesn't mean he's flawless. He may have gotten beaten by a first step. My point in this argument that I wouldn't make too much of it. It was one play.
Im not knocking on Jake, and by no means this proves anything. But the fact of the matter itself, at very least shows that Cam has a very quick step, or quick enough to beat Jake at least once.
He was explosve returning kicks at NMSU, a low 4.3 guy. Those cats are generally huge. In fairness though, until they put on the pads, this is glorified touch football, but "if' Wake is that good of a simple speed rusher, he will help our overall pass rush tremendously. My one gripe against Wake so far is he needs a few more moves, NFL tackles will adjust to the simple speed rush (unless you're Dwight Freeney), he needs to at least be able to cut his rushing arc short and move inside across the face of the tackle and he has to do so with power.
That we know of, 1 day every two weeks does not give us much of a picture of who is doing what alen, it does show Wake has some "quick twitch muscles" that 'Nando claimed he never saw in the mini camp. As for "don't make to much out of it", all we have is a small glimpse of what players can do, and so far we know Wake can beat Big Jake...with no pads on...that is the way it goes in May...
Yeah I either blow by them, or they put their hands on me, which was the end of the play for me. I understand, and I agree 100% The only thing im trying to say is im happy that it happened period. I prefer that, over reading that Big Jake stops him in his tracks every single time, meaning that Cam wasn't able to beat Jake even in shorts. Ive watched some film, and read, and watched teammates, coaches and critics talk about him. One word that came up consistently, in all interview is his explosion. And I think that is awesome. Explosion isn't simply quickness of the line, it also equals how hard he hits the guy, while he is still halfway in his stance. The guy looks like he has core strenght, and im sure that Joey and JT will have a few moves to show this guy besides outside speed rush; Kiss and rip, inside fake, spin, vice versa and so on.
I've watched every scrap of film available on Cameron Wake, he is explosive, but the fastest kid in a group of slow kids will always appear faster then they really are. I compared JT to Wake from Crunch's "Tribute video" and JT is a diffferent sort of rusher then Wake, JT uses his long arms and leverage to shed the tackle, Wake typically blows by them, occasionally he will use a punch on a LT and play off of them, but JT does that all the time. Wake is more like Joey Porter then JT.
Well, yeah JT is more of a prototypical DE, because he is taller, and has longer limbs. In 4-3 hes a DE. Cameron is alot more like Peezy, obviously, they both are 6'3 and weight something close id imagine. Lets not forget that Peezy and JT is 32 and 34 respectivly, while Cameron is 27. Im not expecting cam to dominate like he did in Canada, especially in his firs year with the big boys, but im expecting 6-8 sacks. I really think his production will jump big time between his first two seasons, because he won't be a kid out of college with the game being that much different, + the body development. Cameron is as fast as he will get, and as strong as he will get (well, maybe a tad here and there, with the kamikaze camp they run down here) and he won't be making the mental transition from college to NFL, thats why I think his development won't take nearly as long.
Wake has as long of arms as JT does though, Wake is a sort of freak of nature..and he's added muscle weight since he's been down in Miami, he was up to 267, and that was a month or more ago, by now he could be 270ish. I won't even try to predict sack numbers for Wake, or even what his role will be, playing up or down, a small part of me wonders if he will play DE at about 275 on passing downs, or if Roth will play passrusing DE and Wake plays SOLB. The thing with Wake is, it's totally uncharted territory, normally CFLer's can come to the NFL and play the strength positions (Mark Dixon comes to mind) occasionally a Db can play at a high level like Otogowe in St Louis, but OLB/De? No one has done that before. I had to laugh when Omar said he didn't notice Charlie Anderson...
Well no I didn't mean to sound as if I really thought that someone would actually shoot him for reporting it......I'm slow but not that slow. My point was he made a highly dramatic statement indicating he saw these oh so very interesting things in OTAs, but he wasn't going to share them with us. OK.....if he isn't going to share them with us why even bring it up? What is the point of mentioning it to begin with?....."I know something you don't know"....? why else?..... At this point the OTAs are open to any all credentialed media? I think it's pretty safe to say that anything the team is showing now isn't intended to be kept a secret. I do not for one second believe that a Parcells led regime trusts the media enough to "keep a secret". Isn't it safe to assume that when they are doing things they don't want anyone to know about ahead of time, they'll practice them during closed practices? So now it's Omar's job to report, so why not report?
in my opinion he did report. reporters jobs are partially to get discussion going. and there seems to be a ton of it here. just because all the details were not given it made you all the more curious to ask and most importantly to him.. maybe to check back on what he might have to say about it in the future.
Although you may be fine with it, I'm not. I don't approve of the concept of a media person telling us that he/she has information but they aren't going to share it with the public. What is the purpose? You say to generate discussion.. however think how much more of a buzz would be generated with more information. Say and believe what you will. But to me it was nothing but an attention seeking ploy. His conspiratorial "I have this information but I dare not share it with you" is nothing more than self serving contrived drama.
