Dolphins releasing punter Matt Darr saves some doe...Good Luck Matt and Matt Adam Beasley ✔ @AdamHBeasley Going with Haack over Darr saves the Dolphins $150,000 against the cap. Wonder if they tried to trade Darr.
This wasn't a tough move to predict. We are getting a lefty, with at least an equal leg, is cheaper, and have him for at least three years before the cost goes up. Also, ya had to like his chances when Darren Rizzi was quoted as saying he was surprised Matt Haack was not drafted, because he was a draftable talent. No punters got drafted last season though.
The second job of most punters is that of the holder. This skill should not be discounted. Poor holds can cost a kicker and hence the team. Haack was the holder on Franks' 56 yarder last week.
Dammit. If anybody would have swept in like a Haack to correct my spelling or pronunciation, it would have been you.
There's a vid out there where his college coach is talking about how of an extremely talented Punter he is, how he won the game for them and how he's an incredible weapon for his team, said he can flip the field at any time.
Once upon a time, the job of holding for the kicker was the job of the back-up quarterback and I really wish that would come back. Having an actual quarterback on the field opens up options for an offense and, God forbid if there's a bad snap, you have an actual QB on the field to make a throw and get a first down.
That and also making them do SOMETHING to earn their paycheck. If the starter is healthy they will pretty much never see the field nowadays.
Thing about it is, that was the argument concerning the punter. All he ever did was kick...nothing else. "He can hold the ball for the kicker...makes him earn his paycheck". Well as you point out, all the back-up does anymore is hold a clipboard and have an earpiece in his ear watching the game. Waste of money. Sorry, I degress lol
LOL.. I had to look this up. All three: Oxford (en.oxforddictionaries.com), Websters (www.merriam-webster.com) and dictionary.com have "dammit" as the correct spelling. They don't even have an entry for "damnit". So either you say "damn it" or "dammit" lol.
The spin of the ball. Typically with a right footed kicker, the spin of the ball on a punt results in the ball spinning into the pocket of the receiver's arms where with a left footed punter, the ball is spinning in the opposite direction, causing the ball to spin away from the pocket of the receivers arms.
Yes, same thing for lefty QB's, which was a serious adjustment for Jerry Rice when Steve Young took over for Joe Montana. I saw an interview with Rice once and he discussed this.
