Agreed. I think Marvel is going with the second Ant-Man anyway. I believe Michael Douglas is playing an aged Hank Pym.
Yup. Now the question is, will they have Ant-Man become a giant in the movie or will he be working on that in the movie and by Avengers 3 have it available?
Dr. Doom should be a villain for a second movie. You should also never see his face. The first movie's bad guy should have been Mole Man or something stupid like that. In the first movie the villain should be less interesting than the hero, so they hero can shine. One reason why Batman Begins, Iron Man, and X-Men First Class work so well in setting up the hero.
Agreed in general. Scarecrow is a great villain, they just didn't let him do much. And I'm not sure Batman Begins really conveyed who and what Ras Al Ghul was really about, but whatever. I understand why they didn't want to get into Lazarus Pits and such Iron Man really doesn't have great villains period and I would argue that Magneto is still the most interesting character in First Class. He's still the "villain".
I think the fact that Iron Man doesn't have any compelling villains is why he was never all that popular. The hero is only half the equation. Its no wonder that the two super heroes with the best all around villains are Batman & Spiderman who also happen to be the two most popular. I'd be in favor of Marvel telling Whedon to create some bad guys for the Marvel movies instead of using canon as blueprints.
See, I don't love Spider Man's villains. Batman has by far the best rogues gallery. The Goblin and Dock Ock don't match the likes of Doom, Magneto, even some of the other mutants like Mystique, Sabretooth, etc.
You can do some awesome stuff with Scarecrow. A movie that treats him like the Joker and done right could be amazing. Same with Ras Al Ghul. However to the general public, they don't really know who they are, and they don't have to spend too much time with them. I don't agree that Magneto is the villain in "The First Class". It is Kevin Bacon.
Hope Van Dyne is the in the movie. She is the daughter of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. Janet is dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
You can make a new Wasp though. Not enough people care about Ant Man that you'd have some big outcry on your hands. I'm just dissapointed that Edgar Wright dropped out.
I don't know enough about Fantastic Four. I think the thing that helped Batman, Spider-Man and X-Men is the fact that they have had very successful cartoons. Plus Batman had the 60s TV show.
There is? Not questioning you, but I haven't heard anything. Not that it matters anyway. I personally wouldn't really know the difference as I'm not familiar enough with Ant-Man. But these lesser properties, like Guardians, give you a chance to introduce people to new things without having to be so slavishly devoted to the hardcore fan.
Batman, Spiderman & X-Men don't get successful cartoons if they weren't already popular. Not knowing enough about F4 is kind of my point though.
It does help, however there are many successful cartoons that aren't based on already popular characters. Such as Static Shock. I just was never interested F4. I know Daredevil villains and a lot about the Exiles and Thunderbolts. I grew up reading my uncles comic books and I bought comic books from 2002 until Civil War. Just a personal preference thing for me. To be honest, other than Lex Luthor, I didn't know any Superman villains until I started watching his cartoon.
Cartoons not based on comics aren't really relevant to the conversation. The point isn't what you or what I personally like either. This is about what becomes popular and outside of Superman the superhero needs a bunch of compelling bad guys to become super popular in comic books.
Alright, what about Teen Titans? You can also make bad guys more compelling. Like they did in Batman the Animated Series with Mr. Freeze.
Do you mean popular within comic books or popular in mainstream? For instance, Deadpool is super popular in comic books. He is gaining popularity in mainstream. Mostly due to video games. I don't know if he has a villain gallery. I can only name Taskmasker.
The only Deadpool villian I can think of is T-Ray. Dupree makes a good point there, you're going to have to try harder FinD. Also the Fantastic Four has a pretty good rogue's gallery outside of Dr Doom. Galactus and his heralds, Kang the Conqueror, the Skrulls, and Annihilus are the big ones.
I agree, although I would say that in general, DC tend heroes have better rogues than Marvel heroes, Spiderman not withstanding. Maybe it's DC reluctance to have their heels turn face, where with Marvel their villains are constantly changing sides.
Another thing is that DC tends to keep their super heroes separate. The big difference in early philosophy of DC and Marvel Universe is that DC is very segmented, with each hero having their very own villains, while Marvel is more hodgepodge, and since most of their heroes are in New York, they will often fight the same villains. For instance Kingpin. He is a Spider-Man villain as much as he is a Daredevil villain.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/136892-Marvel-Doctor-Strange-Not-An-Origin-Story I hope this is true. I am getting sick of origin stories.
So looks like Captain America 3 will pin Captain against Tony Stark, Marvel decided to go with the Civil War storyline which may carry all the way in to Avengers...4? http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=56268
See, this is why I hate the fact that Sony and FOX have the movie rights to Spider-Man and X-Men & Fantastic Four.
Hard for me to get excited about this since Civil War was a big reason I stopped buying comic books. Brand New Day also had something to do with it.
Supposedly Sony is in talks with Marvel in letting them use spidey, and getting parts of the profits or something. God that'd be amazing!
Looks like Dr. Strange will be none other than Sherlock: Benedict Cumberbatch! With him & RDJ, we just need Johnny Lee Miller and we'll have all three current incarnations of Sherlock. https://movies.yahoo.com/news/benedict-cumberbatch-talks-star-marvel-doctor-strange-183239663.html They just made the property I was least interested in, considerably more interesting. Now just bring on Black Panther (and somehow go back in time and get a younger Idris Elba to play him).
