What do you guys think of him?

Very Dominate LB but was diagnosed with cancer in the offseason, now they're 99% sure it's gone. If he falls to 3rd round or lower I would love to have him.

I can't see him in the 2010 NFL Draft, and if he were I wouldn't use that high of a pick on him without some very impressive workouts.

No worries. I don't recall it being reported everywhere, I just heard him say it on College Gameday when he announced he was cancer free.

I'm glad he is cancer free. I remember there was talk about him possibly losing his leg and to be able to play again is remarkable.

He was the best PLAYER in college football last season and a bona fida top 3 pick. Not sure how the NFL deals with cancer in terms of evaluating prospects because it's such a rarity. But then Herzlich is a rarity as well.

Yea, I remember reading how much you loved him last year. I also remember reading a quote from a scout saying he was literally the perfect linebacker.

He is because he gets sideline to sideline, can attack the LOS and is like an oustanding pass defending safety.

He's also a tackling machine and a very bright kid.

I watched Mike McLaughlin the other day and he didn't look to good without Herzlich next to him.

If Mark Herzlich says he's going to come back and be just as good as before, I'm not here to bet against him.

BOSTON (AP) -- The Butkus Award for the top linebacker in college football could go to a player who isn't expected to make it onto the field this season.

Boston College's Mark Herzlich was among the 16 semifinalists announced on Friday. Herzlich is out for the season while recovering from a rare form of cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma. He has helped raise more than $80,000 for research and education about the disease.

Award namesake Dick Butkus noted that the honor is also designed to remind the players "that they have a responsibility to serve as role models and to give back to society."

Herzlich says his recovery is nearly complete. He hopes to begin full workouts in December and plans to play next season.
