Mario Manningham and Aqib Talib have reportedly been removed from "multiple teams'" draft boards due to alleged marijuana use in college. Talib reportedly acknowledged at the Combine that he tested positive for pot three times at KU. Mario denied testing positive initially, then sent a letter to all 32 teams admitting he lied. Manningham claims he failed two drug tests at Michigan. Gaines Adams, Amobi Okoye, and Calvin Johnson were involved in a similar situation last year. Their draft stocks were not affected. Doesn't surprise me at all nor do I think it will affect the draft stock of these 2 guys. Kinda funny that Manningham failed not one but TWO tests at Meeshegan. I remember playing college baseball the coaches told us if we failed ONE test our scholarships were revoked. Damn double standards...
It depends how recently the incidents were really. If they tested it out or something in their frosh or soph years, thats one thing. If they continually used it including this last year and maybe even offseason? Well that could hurt a little bit. I could see a guy like Manningham take a hit from it ... Talib? Eh, I think hes still a first rounder, but mocks already have him all over the place so its hard to say where he might end up.
Mario Manningham and Aqib Talib have reportedly been removed from "multiple teams'" draft boards due to alleged marijuana use in college. by that line i would think it;s recent
Interesting Info Re: Manningham FYI! I know he was one of the players that we possibly were looking out for a second round or late first round. Aquib was also somoene Miami was looking at FYI It would be nice if they fell and BP had enough confidence in taking one or both. The only question there is will they, or have they, both stopped tokin'? If they get suspended, it doesn't matter how talented they are, they won't be helping us win. See Williams, Ricky.... I for one don't think it's such a bad thing, but the league frowns on it.
What I don't like is how people continue to run their mouths and damage these kids' reputation (and possibly their financial futures). These guys are urged to tell the truth. And their reward for not lying is for some coach, scout or GM leaking the information to the national media. Granted, I have no way of knowing if this was actual motivation for Manningham, or he was simply didn't want to be honest. But even when he sends a letter to teams, genuine or not, it gets leaked. Enough is enough.
"A year after there was considerable wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth regarding a report from ProFootballWeekly that three blue-chip draft prospects had admitted at the Scouting Combine to smoking a certain green leaf, there’s another report from ProFootballWeekly regarding this year’s crop of players regarding their personal pot-smoking habits." It says three prospects admitted to it. Who's the other one? http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/

I would definitely be happy with Talib way over Manningham. Obviously we dont know the whole story with Manningham, but I think given our situation and his, I'd rather take a lineman at 57, maybe even TE. I'm just not sold on Manningham or taking a WR in that spot.
Failing multiple drug tests shows a lack of learning form one's mistakes and a sign of immaturity. I am not a Cam supporter, but I think one of the truest things he said was that the best barometer for future behavior, is to look at their previous behavior. If Manningham orTalib get nailed or arrested for something similar in the future, the team and coaching staff have no one to blame but themselves for drafting them. I say pass on both.
People thought Dan Marino was a doper coming out of Pitt.....this let us grab him late in the first round. But I don't think Dan ever failed a drug test.
Dan was supposedly a coke head. However I don't think he ever admitted to failing drug tests either. Kind of a big difference between suspecting and admitting guilt.
