So? I WAS a Hornets fan, when they were in Charlotte, guess what happened? Larry Johnson left under similar circumstances, Hornets did not win **** Zo Morning left under similar circumstances, Hornets did not win **** Don't feel special in all of this GHead, these deals, like trading stars in MLB, 99% of the time work out were the team that traded the star winds up with nothing of real value. And oh yeah, George Shinn? Grade A tool.
Both the Hornets and Rockets have gone to Stern's office essentially begging him to reconsider. Notice the Lakers aren't there? But yet the Lakers are the thieves in this trade?
Marc Cuban once again proving the notion that there is no correlation between intelligence and wealth.
Lakers free up a good amount of cap and still have Bynum to trade. They could make a run at howard. What could have been wont happen.
Teams are looking at a revised trade. I can't imagine they wouldn't even do this without Stern's blessing. Stern is trying to save face because he is getting MURDERED everywhere...and rightfully so. Dan Gilbert is rivaling Sterling as the worst owner in sports. He is literally writing letters to the commish claiming that it is unfair. I honestly don't know if I watch, even if the NBA does do the right thing. This whole thing has been bungled by the league. And people who hate the Lakers can jump up and down for joy, but if this happened to your team you would be blown away as well. Contraction needs to happen for this league...starting in Cleveland. Yes, I want blood. And Paul and Howard...
From what im reading around twitter, the deal isn't completely dead. All teams are trying to resurrect it.
Not for nothing, but Marc Gasol was involved in that trade heading to Memphis and is considered one of the best young centers in the league and a top free agent this year. The trade wa slopsided for L.A., but it wasn't as bad as originally thought given Marc's development. The Hornets haul for Chris Paul was pretty good. You can marginalize Scola, Odom and Martin if you want, but just about every expert is agreeing that the Hornets make out in this deal as a stand alone trade. Paul will end up in L.A. Stern is already reeling from the bad press. And he is going to allow it to happen as long as L.A. takes on more salary in either Okafor or Ariza coming back with Paul, which is still BS in that they are forcing the Lakers to pay for players that they otherwise may not want. I think this should squash the Miami Heat are the most hated franchise in the NBA. The entire ****ing league is against the Lakers.
Uhm, yeah, 2 NBA titles later... Stern doesn't give a damn about "bad press", if anything this is the sports media desiring a natural rival for the Heat in a major media mkt That, and Gilbert and Co are smart enough to realize the 42 millie the lake show shed would be used to sign Howard and that was unpalatable.
A handful of small market owners don’t want the Lakers to get a second superstar, sure. But everyone with a halfass blog is railing against Stern and supporting the trade, which means they support the Lakers getting CP3. The Lakers are nowhere near the most hated franchise in the NBA. Welcome to the Heat’s 1997 season, Lakers fans. As for the Gasol trade, there’s really no defending that in terms of balance. It was a giveaway by the Grizzlies to the Lakers. If Marc Gasol was so great at the time, the Lakers wouldn’t have needed to trade for Pau.
Pro Basketball Talk says its officially dead. Sorry Paul. The good news for me...amare melo and chandler can renegotiate longer term deals after this year and make room for CP3. Brilliant if it works....stupid as hell if it fails.
It wasn't 42 million. Such a misnomer. They were going to sign Paul long term, as well as take on the bad contract of Hedu in the trade for Howard. And you know what? Who cares if they DID save $42 million? It's their team and they can do what they want. Gilbert went out and spent money on terrible players for his god awful team for years without being checked. Him crying about money being saved when he spent millions on Larry Hughes and Atnawn Jamison smacks of him being a jealous twat. Any team makes that trade for Pau if they can. Anyone who *****es about that trade is simply jealous. It doesn't change the fact that Marc Gasol is now a budding star and he was obtaine din that trade. Memphis clearly traded for the future and it is starting to pay off. New Orleans was trying to do the same thing, as was Houston who has been preparing for this type of trade for a couple of years and now their plan is on hold until this mess is sorted through.
Why dear god why? The Orlando Magic are close to acquiring rugged power forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis from the Boston Celtics in a sign-and-trade deal that involves Brandon Bass, the agent for Bass told the Orlando Sentinel. Listed at 6-9 and 289 pounds, Davis is an energy player who has a nice midrange jumper and possesses good agility. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...-big-baby-trade-1210-20111209,0,3920205.story
Stick LAL with Okefor and this trade probably happens. Biggest problem for small market owners wasn't necessarily Chris Paul, but Chris Paul and gaining all that cap room.
Marc Gasol was playing overseas and the Lakers needed help upfront right away since Bynum had gone down. Everyone knew, even back then, that Marc was going to be good. In fact, most Lakers fans were actually upset that Marc was involved in the trade. Just because others didn't know what he was going to be, didn't mean the fans, as well as the teams didn't. Memphis was trading for their future core and it was a gamble that appears to be working for them in the present as they are now considered a favorite in the West. So yeah, the trade was won by the Lakers but they didn't rob the Gizzlies like everyone thinks they did.
I wish it was our GM insted. Almost a year after the Orlando Magic made a risky trade to acquire Gilbert Arenas, the team has cut him loose in an attempt to make their salary-cap and luxury-tax figures more palatable. The Magic announced Friday that they have waived Arenas and designated him as the franchise's amnesty player. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...renas-waived-amnesty-20111209,0,6536131.story
Nets closing in on Nene Faced with a circus surrounding the Dwight Howard negotiations, the Nets are closing in on top free agent Nene Hilario, a league source told the Daily News. Nene, who can either play power forward or center, is being offered a four-year deal worth $65 million, the source said, but could get the most money by re-signing with the Nuggets. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/nets/2011/12/source-nets-closing-in-on-top-free-agent-nene-0
While I wouldn't have minded if the trade for Paul happened, I can appreciate why Gilbert felt the way he did. I wish the NBA could have similar parody to that of the NFL, and that teams were on a mostly level playing field in FA, but I know that's not the way it is.
Which team obtained the necessary pieces to mount championship runs? Exactly. The NFL’s parity is largely marketing hype, while the NBA is certainly a parody of a real sports league.
Oh, it's not just a handful of small market teams. Did you read what Marc Cuban said? Of course, he'll be the only one quoted publically because he's an idiot loudmouth. But I'm sure the league office in New York received plenty of calls from owners in the same or neighboring states.
Cuban is relevant only inside his own little world. You might as well cite my pet cat, who by the way is totally neutral on this issue.
Can’t wait for all the people who complained about Cam Newton’s father to now laugh at this… oh, wait, you mean those people have disappeared?
NBA should switch from their corrupt trade / cap system to an international soccer/transfer based system where teams have to buy players, pay for transfer fees and THEN negotiate with the player in contract terms. Then you can have a Major NBA league and a Minor league filled by teams eliminated from the old NBA. You can then have promotions at the end of the season, where say the top two or three teams are promoted, and the bottom three in the Major league are demoted.
Who peed in your cornflakes there, Padre? No need to get all *****y with me. George Shinn has nothing to do with any of this. Damn, dude, you need to chill out.
deal is gonna happen. D12 will be in NJ. The Knicks will suck forever. All is good in the world again.
