So far what I've seen of this game looks terrible, but the concept of 256 player skirmishes is very intriguing. Either way, everyone can try it come Jan 4th 2010. http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/12/21/mag-open-beta-announced/
XMB? And seems like a big file to DL for a few days. I am not that desperate to try it, although the game does intrigue me. Moreso because I hope it sets the standard for future games.
It releases here in the US tomorrow. Link: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/12/mag-is-gold-beta-for-everyone-soon/ Also the game has like a 200mb download file but when you launch the game it installs and balloons to about 2GB. I am in the closed Beta and the game is pretty much terrible. Also the XMB is where you choose what you want to do as soon as the PS3 boots.
With the time I've spent with it the actual gun mechanics and player mechanics seem fine. What throws me off is the size of the maps. The idea of 256 people and huge maps is great but once you get in the game and see that there are several squads and everyone is barking out orders it gets real confusing. Each squad had a mission like protecting something etc. and the squads can here each other so what happens is you hear a bunch of people talking several things and its confusing. Plus the size of the maps just throw you off. From the times I've played it I can't tell you how many people I've heard saying "what do I again" or people shouting at others for what they are doing wrong. Overall the scale of the game seems too big at this point and it doesn't work. Also the graphics are PS2 quality but this is a Beta so I cut it slack there. Its just a huge mess at this point and isn't at all fun to play.
