Man, this game looks AWESOME! It was supposed to come out back in 2007 or so, but it's finally on the brink of a Fall 2009 release. Check out all of the new (and old) videos... looks like it's going to put Godfather 2 to shame. http://www.gametrailers.com/game/mafia-ii/5403
2-3 hours of cut scenes... time period changes from the 40's to the 50's, and cars, music, the way people dress, and scenery change with it... you can purchase and read the newspaper to keep up with in game news (i.e. GTA IV's internet & radio features), completely open world... 4-5 ways the story could end depending on your decision(s). I've been tired of Mafia video games for about 5 years now, but this one looks like it has the potential to blow every open world game out of the water.
Mafia (the first game) was a legendary PC game in it's prime. I played that thing to death. I can't wait for this.
I can't wait for full details of what you can do in the open world outside of story. Hope it's loaded with side missions and stuff. Only thing revealed is that you can buy your own safehouses and you will actually own your own car instead of having to steal one every time you go out and about.

Not sure if it's on XBL, but the Mafia2 demo hit the interwebz. You dont even need a modded box to play it. If anyone needs help getting/running it, PM me.... Made a quick vid [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO3oTJCT330"]YouTube- Mafia Demo‎[/ame]
yeah the demo is cool as hell. Very pretty and there's alot of people and stuff in the world. Easier to die than typical open world games. A head on collision while going fast will kill you.
Didn't like the demo much. Movement is clunky and I just couldn't get used to the controls, particularly sight aiming and driving. Absolutely fantastic job on the character models, though. Mafia II is the new watermark for facial appearance and animation, IMO.
Indeed Mafia was a legendary game. The modding community for Mafia is amazing. Can't wait for Mafia 2, should be an incredible game.
pretty f'n good. The demo actually doesnt do it justice. As with the original, very story driven and terrific acting. I'm only about 2 hours in, but so far so good.
If you could.... list some things you can do in the open world not shown in the demo please! I'm looking for some depth outside of the story, which is something that GTA San Andreas mastered and GTA IV failed to offer.
It is a must buy. Been playing it a couple days now, incredible game. Much like the first game, it has an incredible story, great gameplay, just a great game. Hopefully the modding will be much like the 1st game. Seemed a bit sketchy at 1st with moderators banning anyone discussing mods on the 2K forums, that's not the case anymore. Still I doubt they release any modding tools just like they didn't last year.
Don't buy it if you have a PS3. Luckily I read around before buying it. There's is completely flat, not much blood and no blood piles (significantly less than the 360 & PC), clothes don't move, and tons of graphical issues. Doesn't sound like much, but think GTA Vice City like on the grass part. Had to cut everything to optimize. 2k issued a statement apologizing to PS3 owners on their official forums, which is why the PS3 got the exclusive DLC.
This game kicks major ***... BUT. Some warnings. This is mostly towards HD. If you're looking for an open world to do tons of stuff outside of the story, this isn't for you. The world looks alive and there's tons of people and cars. But in reality there isn't a whole lot to do outside of the story. The open world is there more for ambiance and realism during the story. I haven't beaten it yet, but I don't imagine there's going to be a lot to do when I'm done. That being said... The story is ****ing awesome. It even has a Mafia1 tie-in later on. I love it. So if you want a good story and the best acting since Mass Effect 2, check it out. If you want San Andreas, pass.
Hey mor, Im real happy for you, and imma let you finish...but you gotta give us SOME information on Reach now...please.
Here's the post from one of the 2k Reps: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1012515&postcount=541 Poor lady got slammed. 100+ pages and about 100 more threads full of slamming her for the statement.
Pretty much sums it up. The story. Was the reason Mafia was such a brilliant game, and the reason Mafia 2 is such a great game also. But you're right in that aside from the story, not much else to do, but if you're playing on PC, give it awhile, there's a large modding community for Mafia 1 and 2 that should add some good content to the game.
* Game Informer (90/100): "In an era when video games are moving away from relying on cinematics for storytelling, Mafia II draws on the rich mobster film history to weave a gripping drama about family, friendship, loyalty, betrayal, and pragmatism. If you're fond of quoting Don Corleone and Tony Soprano, don't miss this game." * GameSpot (8.5): "Mafia II is an excellent return of a franchise with great promise. Vito and his associates are memorable characters in a city bursting with subtle visual details and violent undertones ... While you might be disappointed with what Mafia II doesn't do, it's hard to be disappointed by what this excellent game does do: deliver fun shoot-outs and pockets of shocking brutality in a world you're delighted to be a part of." * Giant Bomb (3/5 Stars): "Playing Mafia II gives you the feeling that the developers put more emphasis on telling a great mob story than designing a great video game, but had to split their attention too much to effectively do either one ... There are a lot of great mob stories out there already, and this one needed more focus to stand out next to all the memorable tales that came before." * Eurogamer (4/10): "Mafia II gets the last word by destroying the myth that the mafia is interesting at all. It contends that the mob world is a hell of boredom populated by aggressively stupid automatons. These drones wake up each morning, carry out a series of repetitious tasks, and return home. The message: thug life is nothing more than it appears. And Mafia II is even less."
you get to the throw back from part 1 yet?? If so... Spoiler That crazy wasn't it??!? Salieri sends his regards!!! HA! I'm such a geek
So i just went to the blockbuster to go and rent this, and apparently you have to be 18 to sign up there ):, Damn i hate being 17
Yeah I caught a bunch of em. But I liked how they closed that book. And good lol on a strange side note, I miss the main score for mafia 1. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI84kUhm3mw"]YouTube- Mafia Soundtrack - Theme Music[/ame]
Yea I beat it today also. Great game. One of the best stories in a game I've seen since, well Mafia 1. Hopefully these mods and DLC start coming out soon, I need me some more Mafia...
For those of you playing on PC, modding has begun. Free Ride Mod - http://mafiascene.com/downloads?did=894 Mafia 2 Multiplayer Mod has been created - http://www.modmywhat.com/article/Oh-hai--Mafia-2-Multiplayer--its-real-now/716 There's also a Mafia 2 "The Redemption" mod in the works that takes after the Capo mods from the original Mafia. Now that a free ride mode has been created, and mod tools being created, the Mafia 2 modding scene should reach Mafia 1 proportions in no time.
