Just so you know. Not sure about PSN yet.... http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/07/23/demo-madden-nfl-10.aspx
I guess I can give my impression of the demo...for better or worse. The first thing about the demo is that you play as either the Cowboys or Giants, rather than either the Steelers or Cardinals which were probably expected. Also as far as the demo itself you get 1 minute quarters and the graphics and gameplay look pretty much like last year but with some nice tweaks. The lighting effects makes the field and players look better in my opinion and the gameplay feels a little tighter but overall I didn't see a lot of difference. However it does make for a better game experience. Remember as well this is a bare bones demo without any announcers or halftime shows, etc. so I'm sure the full features weren't shown, but if the demo is better than 09 graphics and gameplay wise then 10 should be a really nice step ahead. Now the game really shines over 09 in the presentation department, with even the start screen feeling more polished and care given than last year. Also although I haven't played 09 much I noticed that while playing as the Cowboys both Wade Phillips and Tony Romo looked pretty much identical to their real live selves. Also the in game presentation of replays, etc. just looks nice and slick. Overall this demo has me actually excited for this year's Madden because the game looks good, feels good, and seems like a real improvement over last year. I must say for all my criticisms of Madden, this year I am actually impressed.
i got an xbox 360 arcade for $181 after tax and shipping this week. it was from a dell website. not bad, it's a jasper and pretty cheap: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=1457813
played it 3 times just now. 1 min quarters. no playmaker on offense. everything is extremely slower. you cant make quick changes of direction. user covering the field is much more difficult due to slower recovery times. user catchs are much more difficult due to timing changes. you cant throw lobs on streaks against man and expect to have a chance to catch it. it snows everytime because u have to play in NY. wildcat is ok, but nothing spectacular. hard to run the ball with 1 minute quarters. lead blocking is gone. you cant control anyone but your QB.
i havent had the mini game happen yet. i fumbled on my first play but the first guy to get to the ball picked it up and ran out of bounds.
Ive played two games now, and I really enjoy it. I like the new look and feel of all the overlays, and the presentation of it. It'll be cool to see/hear it all in full in the retail copy. The game play feels better, they werent kidding about slowing it down, its maybe a bit too slow, but at least theres going to be a game speed slider apparently. So far so good! However, that being said... its pretty brutal to have a demo with 1 minute quarters..
I can't really decide if I love it... There are some aspects I'm not sure of and can't gauge because of 1 min quarters. Running seems very hard still, but I've never been able to run more than a few times... I can't believe EA ****ed us with 1 min quarters. Give us 2 min at least... Or give us 1 5 min quarter and let us pick to practice with offense or defense.
Well after playing a couple of games I've decided that I like it. I love that they slowed it down. It feels so much more realistic. I love the look of it. The detail is much better. I haven't expereinced the QTE for the fumbling yet. I'm pretty disappointed about the inclusion of any QTE. I despise those things.
You can change the speed of the game on the retail version it is being at its slowest speed in the demo. All online games will be played at the game speed settings, you can change the camera angle and shut off the fumble pile up mini game.
wow, 94% in favor of removing it! I think i used it maybe once, or twice when they first put it in... I havent used it since... Im glad they took it out.
I went back and played 09 and I must say 10 looks really nice even with the demo. Once again I am very impressed and still saddened by how third rate 09 still feels to me. 09 feels more like a demo to me than the 10 demo.
Just got done playing two games (one with the Giants and one with the Cowboys) and here are my thoughts: The realism is incredible, especially compared to the past. You don't just hit the ball carrier and they unrealistic fall back. Tackles, whether they are being made by one or more players, are very realistic. Gameplay is a little slow, but it's something you'll get use to. And if what Brown4200 said about gameplay speed is true, it's a non-issue. It's really nothing I'd complain about. My favorite wide receiver on the Giants? Hakeem Nicks. I led the Giants on a 99 yard drive with one minute (err one quarter) because he rocked the flag routes. Pass protection was good, felt little pressure with Manning. The detail this game went to was great. I love how the pregame stuff is going to look when they add the commentary/music. I think it will help tremendously because as good as your eyes are... video games are about eyes and ears. Another thing about detail, when I was the Cowboys going up to call heads or tails... Jason Witten was a captain and was wearing a hat backwards. That's pretty sweet that EA added some personality to their players... they aren't just 22 men on the field that are identical except weight, height, and the name/number on their back The Wildcat. I think it will be better with the Dolphins than with the Cowboys. I was able to run it about 7 times in the first half (just ran out of the Wildcat to get the feel for it) and I'd say 5 of the runs were rather short gains (1-3 yards) but I had 2 runs that were 10+ (max of about 15). Very realistic, IMO. Not overpowered or underpowered. Blocking has really improved... Other wide receivers actually blocked after the guy made a catch. I like the realism in player movement. It's unrealistic for a linebacker to make cuts like he is Jerry Rice. Add the music, commentary, replays, etc. and I think Madden will be a big improvement from last year. I would say that playing the demo has made me want to ensure I get Madden as soon as I can....
Just because I like 10 better than 09 already doesn't mean I want to pay $60 for it...however when the game drops in price/I find a deal I'm there. Plus I basically blew my whole gaming money reserve this past weekend so I won't be buying any games for a while (more the real reason I won't buy Madden this year because this year it actually seems worth $60).
Pretty solid demo... I might pick it up once the price drops. Until then, I'll stick with All Pro Football and Madden 09.
lead blocking is the only way to seal off the the DE. otherwise your lineman will just whiff and ruin the play. its their own flaws in the game that make it neccessary. ian cummings is a moron.
some major flaws still in the blocking system. The interior linemen still spin around and miss the extra blitz. Just as lame as before. The only difference in blocking is the way the tackles play the DEs. Physics is completely ignored in this game as well. More than once Ive seen my safety leave the ground to swat a pass down, then stop in midair and lay a crushing hit on the WR instead. The WR still catches the ball because of it. Its completely unrealistic. The speed of the game is WAY too slow. It seems like EA has no real concept of reality. They go from warp speed in Madden 09 to snail speed in Madden 10. What gives? Kick returns are easy as hell this year because you cant chase someone down. Im averaging about 40 yards per return and consistently get 60+ yard returns. EA has once again created a couple flashy gimmicks and ignored the laws of physics.
WHAT?! You were arguing with me about animations and ow they make the game better in another thread awhile back...
to correct my previous statement which stated that you can strafe on offense.....you can only do that on rookie and pro difficulty settings. i guess i forgot to put it on all pro when i was doing it. it doesnt work on all pro. but you can still rocket catch (despite Ian Cummings current state of denial) [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4oC4GCDXlg"]YouTube - Madden 10 Rocket Catching![/ame] so basically Ian is telling us that their testers were incapable of rocket catching in this game, but multiple people on youtube were able to do it the first day it came out.
