I am rooting for the Miami Dolphins franchise to be relevant once again. If this team and coach were capable of going on a playoff run that would have been great. If this team you know, had a couple of wins, nobody would be talking about Andrew Luck.
SFL'ers have been more vocal here. I'm find SFL stupid myself you should never cheer for your team to lose, but I understand where they're coming from. They obviously want a QB that can help the team excel, I don't think a single person in their mind would pass up Luck if we end up No. 1 in the draft, but some people will not cheer and hope the team will suck to get him.
The fact that only two QBs in history have refused to play for the team that drafted them is evidence that it simply is a rare occurrence. Football players in general are conformists. Coaches drill individuality out if them. Most do not rock the boat. Luck likely won't either. And no, Luck doesn't have a ton of options except staying in school. And that's not going to make SFL go away, it will be worse. Elway had a legitimate option. He was also drafted to play baseball. Eli is only playing for NYG right now b/c SD correctly evaluated that Rivers was his equal and thus took the bounty of picks. Had Ruvers not been in the draft I guarantee that Eli would have eventually shown up and played for SD. SD would have held his draft rights forever. He would be working at McDonald's right now or in the CFL. Luck will play for whatever team drafts him
I still don't know how he'll decide who to play for and who not to play for. Is he going to reveiw every teams games and scout the fans? See which fan base has a SFL sign? Or will he come on certain teams forums and see if they're in favor for SFL?
Yup, fans are meaningless. <sigh> Apparently you didn't watch the Saints Super Bowl season and inspired motivation after Hurricane Katrina. There are countless examples of teams/players rallying around its fan base or fallen loved ones. That means the opposite can most certainly hold true, especially if the player is a massive competitor & winner. Or we could just revert back to Eli Manning. Archie Manning thought the Chargers might be a modern day version of his crappy Saints team (the one that had fans wearing those embarrassing paper bags over their heads), so he told Eli's agent to advise San Diego to not draft him. Eli was still drafted #1, and shortly thereafter in a press conference said he'd refuse to play for San Diego and instead would pursue a Law Degree. Miami might finish with the worst record in the NFL, but I can promise you------ if Luck sees that Miami fans could care less about Andrew Luck and are more concerned with winning, then there's virtually no way he chooses to not play here if we're picking #1. He'd be saying, "That's the kind of fan base I want to be playing for! They wanna win just like I do!". And don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about b/c he's already stated the Suck for Luck fans are not the type of fans he wants to play for. Do you honestly think Luck would be disappointed if he stayed at Stanford, a place that he LOVES, for another year and another shot at a Nat'l Championship before moving onto the losingest team in the NFL? He's not hurting for money and neither is his family. 10+ years of playing for a losing organization WITH a crappy fan base?.... or 10+ years of playing for an organization with a fan base that supports its team? Which one would you choose? 10+ years is a long commitment. It's a long enough of a commitment that it might make an oober competitive QB like Luck think twice about joining the team drafting him.
SD only traded Eli b/c of Rivers. Had there been no Rivers, Eli would not have been traded and he would have shown up eventually. If we get the #1 pick and take Luck but he refuses to show up, then he can go be an architecht for a while until he decided he wants to play football and make a ton of dough. And he will do itfor the Fins or he doesn't play in the NFL ever. Simple
He won't have to worry about spening 10+ years on a losing team. Which ever team has the ability to draft him will most likely be a winning team.
The whole point is that it wouldn't be a losing organization if he was here. If he can't change that we don't need him around anyway. Matthew Stafford was drafted by one of the worst organizations of the past 20 years or so. I guarantee you they had fans wearing paper bags. I've met more than one apathetic Lions fan in my day. Stafford went there and look at them now. They picked him up, picked up some other good players and they're suddenly an exciting team that is going to make a run at something special. I suspect Stafford thought when he was drafted that he could be part of a turn around like that for this organization. That's what winners do. That's how winners think. I can pretty much guarantee you Matt Stafford didn't think 'Oh I don't know, these Detroit fans have stopped going to games, they're wearing paper bags, I just don't think I can go there..' If you're a top QB coming out of college you know you are not going to be drafted by the defending conference champions or anything like that. I don't see how you can criticize some for wanting a season bad enough to get Luck when you have openly hoped Luck shuns us by staying in school or refusing to come here. That would be a big setback and humiliation for this franchise. I don't know how wanting humiliation for the Dolphins to prove some kind of point makes you a better fan just because you're rooting really hard for 2 to 3 extra wins this season.
Arguably there's been at least 3, because Jim Kelly avoided the Bills for as long as he could due to their sucktitude.
Exactly Muscle. Luck just said on the telecast tonight that he want back to school to complete the turnaround that his class started. He said anybody wants to be part if turning a bad program around. If we have the pick, Andrew Luck will show up and play for the fins
Unlike Eli and Luck, he had a legitimate alternative. The USFL was paying major bucks for top college stars at that time. Unless Luck wants to play in Canada or the UFL, he will show up and play for whomever drafts him. Being an architect sounds mice until you realize you can't make $25 million guaranteed and be a worldwide superstar doing it
Eli Manning and John Elways demanded trades because the teams prepared to draft them were poorly run and they didn't want to get into organizations like that. It had nothing to do with the fans. I guarantee you, the Dolphis bring in a coach like Cowher with solid replacemants in the Front Office, he won't demand a trade. It has nothing to do with the fans. Show him that the organization is going in the right direction and he'll be happy.
I want us to win the Super Bowl, and draft Andrew Luck. What I want has no bearing on what's going to happen so I'll want both.
It's happened 2 times out of the past 15 #1 pick QBs. TWICE. That's 13.3%. Choosing to ignore this and say that Luck will play for whatever team drafts him is a massive display of ignorance. PERIOD. It's easy. All you have to do is stop the Suck for Luck campaign and none of this will likely ever matter. Or you could continue with the mass of people playing a meaningless Russian Roulette. Not to point out the obvious but you realize the last place team's season will be over before Luck has to declare to the NFL draft, right? Luck can ABSOLUTELY see enough "Suck for Luck" posters in Miami, have it rub him the wrong way, and choose to NOT declare for the 2012 draft because of it.... which means he would NOT be working for McDonald's.
Just imagine if Luck's last name wasn't actually Luck.....the hype would still be big, but how much of "losing on purpose" would be discussed?
If we get that college kid, I'll support him, but rooting for the Dolphins to lose is stupid and classless.
First of all ToddPhins, I have yet to see any SFL signs at the Dolphins games. Even if there were I imagine Luck has better things to do then to analyze what signs are being held up at various NFL games. Second I refuse to believe that seeing a fanbase rooting for YOU to cone to their team would be a negative. Third, me rooting for SFL or not will not have one iota of an impact on either the Dolphins fortunes or Luck's decision so I will continue doing what I want to do. Fourth, Lick is a very intelligent man. I am sure he understands that SFL, if he even really cares about it, will only be worse next year if he stays in school. Lastly, if the Fins pick #1 and Luck refuses to come I draft him anyway. I'll wait him out. He will show up eventually and he us worth the wait
Did you gather that data from all the #1 draft pick QBs who went to NFL teams that previously finished last? That still has nothing to do with him returning to school b/c of the possibility of not wanting to play for the team drafting #1. It's bad enough Miami is on the opposite side of the country, which is the same reason Elway had for not wanting to play for Baltimore. It's worse when you add a fan base that the player feels is "stupid" or might be embarrassed playing for.
His family lives in West Virginia now. And Dan Marino had no issues playing for this fanbase. Andrew Luck will be just fine
Andrew Luck will get a hero's welcome and be the toast of the town wherever he goes. Being such a person in Miami has it's benefits.
Are you kidding? That's ridiculous. He wants to WIN. He's not some egomaniac that gets a thrill out fans pathetically wanting him so badly that they'll eschew their current team and players for him. A guy like Luck with his principles, beliefs, ethics etc would shake his head in disgust and laugh and your statement. Just because many attorneys are motivated by money, recognition, and their egos, it doesn't mean that's how everyone is.
I want to win too. Which is why I want the guy in my team. I am sure Luck understands the concept of winning the battle losing the war. SFL is just taking your medicine. It tastes bad, you don't want to swallow it but it will make you feel better
Take a look around. This is happening with every fanbase of ****ty teams. Want to know why? Because their teams blow. Want to know the difference between those fanbases and ours? They have a clue. They understand you need a franchise QB. The amount of people against SFL in this fanbase is mind boggling to me. Where the hell have you people been for the last decade? Not watching the terrible abomination of an NFL franchise known as the Miami Dolphins, that's for sure.
You'd be surprised. Some people really love them some mediocrity. Which means lock Chad Henne up for the next 10 years, use our 1st overall pick on a cornfed lineman, 2nd pick on a 3-4 DE, 3rd pick on a bargain bin QB.
We're concerned with Andrew Luck because Andrew Luck is a 99% guarantee of winning. How are some of you people not getting this yet? It's simple stuff.
He's guaranteed 99% of winning? Then why is his college team ranked #7 and not #1? Whats simple is it takes a team to win, not one player. I agree Luck is a special player, college player at that. He's not guaranteed anything at the big leagues.
What does that have to do with anything? Especially concerning the NFL. And Stanford is undefeated. You want to say he isn't guaranteed anything, go with that. I have more faith in my ability to recognize what a special NFL QB looks like. Multiple pro bowler who will make Superbowls in this league. Take that **** to the bank.
Nah. If Luck was playing QB for an undefeated $EC team like Bama or LSU, they would be ranked 7th too imo...
Or it proves that the rankings system is flawed. Stanford is undefeated, obviously his team is doing just fine.
