The theory that the volcanic greek island of Santorini was Atlantis seemed to me to be the most reasonable explanation except for that one phrase by Plato.

"an island situated in front of the straits which are by you called the Pillars of Hercules," .Its a documented fact that the straights of Gibraltar were referred to by that name in antiquity.

This theory makes more sense to me than any theories that Atlantis was located in the Carribbean or South America which had not even been discovered yet.

Yeah, the hypothesis that it was anywhere but the old world was ludicrous.

I've read about so many false starts over the years that it would be cool if this indeed was the real thing. I hope that, if it's at all feasible, they sandbag sections of it at a time and drain them to be fully able to explore them.

Well, I always thought Plato was engaged in writing historical fiction when he penned that about Atlantis, the hover craft and what have you was building off of the disappearance of Atlantis rather than first hand knowledge or what have you, the more interesting thing is where would he have come up with the idea for hovering vehicles in the first place?

Well, that area is a stones throw from North Africa/Egypt (just ask the Moors) so it might have been the final parting place for our ancient alien ancestors.

Some of their human offspring might have made it to Greece in their exile, or a Greek vessel might have encountered them.

Hard to tell Nabo, I'd think not as Spain is off of the equator.

It is kin to the use of Nephillium in the old testament, the root word means "fell from the stars".
