Actually, there is a great difference between a bigot and a racist. The latter, IMO, is far worse.

By and large I agree with FinD on this. I grew up and was a young adult when television news was reported, and not a basis for opinionated commentary. Newspapers reported the news clearly, without using highly inflected negative or positive words which would reveal their position on the matter being questioned. That was left strictly to the Editorial pages. That all ended in 1974-76. Today's newspapers, news channels, and commentators are all in it for the ratings, and the advertising media they can sell, which increased their profits, which makes the dollar the bottom line more than accuracy of reporting. As far as commentary goes, you can range the guys and gals in reporting and, from Chris Matthews to Rush Limbaugh, and find that their main operating mode is to increase their viewing-listening so they can make more money: A. for themselves, and B: for their cause. Cynical about the press... Nowadays, everybody better be, because to my way of thinking, most of the nonsense we hear is not ever unbiased - and their truth ratings fall somewhere just south of the politicians themselves.

The problem is, guys like Rush Limbaugh don't work for a news outlet. He's on AM radio and it ain't the news station. There are opinion/editorials on news outlets as well, and that's fine when it's clearly marked.

But we all know it's bad when kids freely admit getting their news from The Daily Show. It is what it is, at this point.
