Jakeem Grant had himself an impressive practice Monday when he caught two long passes during team drills and had a touchdown catch in the corner of the end zone in a seven-on-seven red zone drill.

“I definitely have to prove that (I can make plays on offense) because going into it, I’m an undersized receiver and most people look at me and (are) like, just kick return, punt return type of guy. But I’m out to prove a point that I can also play receiver. I can do anything a tall receiver can do. I can jump and catch jump balls no matter what. I’m out there to make a statement. I always had that chip on my shoulder going into it. It’s going to remain there until I prove these guys wrong.

The message was repeated Monday, although Gase praised Grant’s work at practice while adding he was looking forward to seeing him perform in the preseason opener Friday against the New York Giants.

“With him, once again we’ve got to slow him down somehow,” Gase said. “It’s hard to do. I mean, the guy is fast. This’ll be a great test for him, whether it be the return game or at receiver, of consistently doing the right thing and being in the right spot. One thing I noticed today was when things break down, he seems to pop free. That guy in space is dangerous and it’ll be fun to watch him play.”

with that speed, you find a spot/situation for him to be in. you hold on to him and develop his receiving skills, but there will be a point in every game where you want to exploit that speed
