The team capoligist sided with the coach. how is that a story? Sorry dude. I just don't buy it. I have been following football for years. Nothing she has done has been out of the ordinary. Yet somehow, now, what he is doing gets lots of attention.
I don't think her sex has anything to do with it, for a few maybe it does. But I think most of the concerns have to do with her role in, and effect on, the organization.
I thought I was pretty specific in my reasons. I didn't like the way she treated players in negotiations. We got to see her during Hard Knocks and she reminded me of Parcells in her manner. I have seen more than my share of negotiations and I don't believe that it's necessary or desirable to behave in that manner.
That's not the same thing. You'd basically have to be looking for the capologist to find their interview. I've never done a search on Aponte. But I have watched Hard Knocks and I have looked for news about the GM and OC hirings.
Exactly. I saw her on Hard Knocks as per the Tannehill negotiations and thought to myself, whoa. I saw the interactions between Philbin and Jake Long and some other players and I wondered back then, will these dudes want to stick around in a house full of Ireland, Philbin and Aponte? The Philbin quote about Chris Clemons in the Barry Jackson article speaks volumes to me, and I doubt that the chemistry on the team is a good or positive one. Getting rid of Sherman and Ireland was a great start, but the job is half done. Every one has their own opinion, and mine is that we'd be better off with Philbin and Aponte shown the door.
"Buying In is exactly what this team lacks" It matters because we are asking about 65 - 70 guys to buy into a system being put in place. It becomes difficult when the management is breeding a culture of getting everything they can for them and alligning them selves with the owner in an attempt to gain power. Throw in the coach and it is a no wonder this team is dysfunctional. It's a god damn disease that has been here since about 2000. Until it is eradicated, we will be mediocre. Until "Team" becomes first and foremost we are spinning our wheels
Im sorry we have the 6th most available space..with more available if we make some more moves. I want a capologist. Not a new age metaphysical meditation guru. Dawn Aponte has done a great job. And those who say we dont need a hard nosed negotiator. We do. Drew Rosenhouse would eat her lunch if he could. He cant. If I were team owner..no way would I lose Dawn Aponte.
I think how you treat players matters. It impacts your team's reputation and how willing players are to come to your team or re-sign with your team. You can get away with treating rookies like that b/c their options are limited, but it can bite you in the butt later.
Exactly. And i think that at least one key player, Jake Long, walked because of issues with the coaching staff and FO. It was clear that we wanted him, and he didn't want us. The question is why, and I think that Ireland and Philbin had a lot to do with it. he didn't want to be around this organization- he had high praise for Jeff Fisher, and was conspicuously quiet as per Joe Philbin and Ireland.
I dont like Aponte b/c she interjected herself into something that should have nothing to do with her [our head coach position] since she's not on the football side of things. That was a compromising move IMO, one that involved looking out for the greater good of the coach than the team, which adds up considering her relationship with Philbin crossed over to personal with their hugging embraces, which is unprofessional I might add.... and I don't trust anyone who transitions a relationship from professional to personal within a business setting b/c I can't be certain they'll always have the team's best interest in mind when the head coach is involved. Case in point- Ireland criticizing the performances against Tampa, NY, and Buffalo and Aponte running to Philbin's aid as if Ireland were acting irrationally. People wanna keep twisting this into being about Aponte's gender as a bull**** means to discredit others' genuine opinions, which I find both annoying and amusing b/c I'd like those same people to tell me how many head coaches go around hugging their male capologist.
I have seen football playing executives hug a lot. Even without "twisting" into being a gender thing, I still think your genuine opinion is pretty off base and completely silly.
That's a gross overstatement.... and typically the hugging involves a celebration like a conference championship or a SB win where you're caught up in the moment. How many execs do you see sharing an embrace after missing the playoffs? Secondly, Philbin isn't an executive. He's a coach. How many head coaches hug it out with their capologist after the end of a disappointing season? context. "Dawn, huge thanks for having my back despite the controversy within my team and failing to make the playoffs". {hug}
I do not know. I honestly do not care. I think that is one of the weirdest things to ever care about. She is the Executive Vice President of Football Administration, calling her just a "capologist" more furthers the section of people who think that she is looked on unfavorably because she is a woman. I have yet to read one thing that she does, that anyone in her position wouldn't do. One of the few criticisms I see as actually valuable to a conversation is the fact that she is too Parcellian, meaning she has too many beliefs that are similar to Parcells. Which is valid. The rest is just someone who is doing their job. "Oh No, she is trying to get promoted." "Oh No, she told Philbin what Ireland said about him in the owners box." Which I highly doubt she is the only person who told Philbin and I highly doubt the owners box is supposed to be Las Vegas. (What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, which of course isn't true, so since every thing in Vegas tends to come out, so the owners box is supposed be like Vegas) I have never seen someone lambasted so much for just doing their job.
See this is the first I've been made aware that she's paid to come to the aid of Philbin and form a subversive alliance with him. and if you think I'm gonna write out "Executive VP of Football Administration" every goddam time I mention her job which revolves heavily around being Miami's capologist, you're nuts. That's just you trying to magnify something that doesn't exist. Literal much are you? Seriously, how many teams have an executive with the title "capologist"? And don't even start in on the moral high ground of noting her specific job title when just about every damn person on this site that supports her mentions nothing beyond the salary cap.
