Well, did Sparano say that the WR ran the wrong route?

I just googled it and he did say that.

"We had some miscommunications, which concerned me," Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said. "I mean, one of them led to an interception —we had a wrong route being run — so those kinds of things are early training camp mistakes."

Well, if Bess ran the wrong route then it's not 100% Henne's fault like I wrote before.

And why isn't anyone whining about the running game? 9 runs of 20 yards in the 1st half with 10 of those yards coming from Henne.

lol...I'll tell you why. One is because Henne haters won't look at anything besides Henne and the rest of us realize that this was a PRESEASON GAME. lol

Yeah, I just looked at the 2nd INT again. I guess it's possible, but to me it looks like Bess was in the right spot but Henne didn't put enough air under it. However, I like that Sparano is sticking up for Henne.

Regardless of what Saprano said, and nobody questioned him saying it, it wasn't going to make a difference. If Henne threw it to where he anticipated the WR would be based off the expected route, Grimes was still there in easy position to pick off that pass. It was not only obvious to the DBs where the pass was going it was floated there. It's not a coincidence or bad luck Henne doesn't have dropped INT's. They're as easy to catch as they come.

My first post was based off of the lack of running game. And it's why I'm beyond frustrated with this supposedly run first philosophy of a coach. He's clueless in my opinion. It seemed on each running play that two lineman were on the ground and a wall of defenders stood unblocked at the LOS. I'm baffled the O-line is what it is after 3 years. This is why I don't point the finger at Henne as the only problem. He has very little to no help from the run game. What can't be denied is that when the pieces fall in place and opportunity is present, Henne is as inconsistent as any QB in the NFL right now.

We're running the risk of getting married to a flawed stat. Henne's 1st INT was very obviously not his fault. I mean, it hit Fasano in the face mask.

But people are pointing to it as if an INT is an automatic reflection of the QB and not a stat that measures turnovers as a whole. It is a flawed stat in that, no matter whom is at fault (Fasano on the first INT or Henne on the second) it is attributed to the QB.

If Fasano had caught it and fumbled it (which is probably closer to what actually happened) we don't have this convo because there is a TO in the Fasano column instead of the Henne column.

Isn't an excuse, it is the truth - and calling it an excuse is a very simplistic and dangerous way to evaluate the team.

This is so friggin stupid. So, if the dolphins go 10-6, play well, but just miss the playoffs, are we still calling them a failure or is good progress progress enough? If we start out slow due to the lockour or new OC, but we finish strong (i have my doubts, but it's my hypothetical), is it still a failure? If Henne comes around but we lose 1/2 our defense line to injuries and finish 9-7, is it still a failure.

pretty much most instances in life, pretty stupid to go black or white.

I've never added a picture so this may be to small to see but here are two screen shots of both INTs:

If Fasano was running toward the sidelines at full speed how come he is facing exactly 180 degrees from where he was going when trying to make the catch? Because it was a terrible pass. The ball is 3-4' behind where it should have been. We're talking about a 5 yd out, simple pitch and catch. Henne is way off the mark on this pass on a regular basis. Quit with the weak excuse that someone is simply a "Henne hater". While that applies to 20% of the people on here, certain folks apply it to every single person with a negative remark. Just get over it already. Henne is a middle to bottom tier QB at this very moment with absolutely no help. What would Henne look like with help? Look no further than our own division.
    INT 1.jpg

Based off of where the second INT pass was thrown, it was getting picked. Grimes was sitting right in this zone watching Henne's eyes tell him where he was throwing the ball. So if this was a timing throw which it appeared to be based off the fact the ball had little velocity under it, it was getting picked regardless of where Bess was. The only valid argument here would be is "well if Bess was in the right position he could have became a defender and possibly prevented the INT."

    INT 2.jpg

I don't care what Sparano says. I've listened to a bunch of nothing come out of his mouth for 3 years now. He's over his head as a head coach. Thankfully we have a D-cord that is holding down that side of the ball and for solid defensive drafting by Ireland. This team is not far from being a solid team. Can we become a solid team with Henne? It's very possible I'd say, but with the same breath I'd say you're absolutely crazy not to be actively looking for his replacement yesterday. This I mean through the draft, not through trading away additional picks for QB's that other teams don't want.

I'll give you the Fasano INT play was thrown behind him, but you're speculating on the 2nd one.

personally, even though I support Henne, he made both mistakes and it's not a big deal. If he's still doing this in the next couple of preseason games, then I'll be pissed.

There are a couple of cities that have no business whatsoever having an NFL team, and Jacksonville is one.

Don't the Chargers have a shiny (relatively) new stadium? That would be an Al Davis move right there.

Well, Thats tough to call. Some may see it as an excuse, but some may see it as reality. I mean Fasano not being able to hang onto a ball if his life depended on it... its an excuse for "bad qb play", but when it comes to evaluation of a TE/WR, then its inexcusable. There's always a fine line, and room for debate IMO.

Overall though, I get your point. However, my opinion is, no more excuses for the regime and the coaching staff. Players, at times when warranted, YES. The coaches however... no. Time's up. They've had their run, if it doesn't improve, than its over for them IMO.

The Dolphins have basically been a non factor in the NFL for the last decade. So many fans have learned over time that is easier to blame, the ref's, bad luck, play calling by the offensive coordinator, or various other excuses for how bad the Dolphins have been over the past decade. These same fans actually believe that Henne is a starting caliber QB in the NFL. They blamed Henning for the fact that Henne is so bad as an NFL QB. They also believe that bringing in an offensive coordinator who directed an offense in Cleveland which was inferior to the Dolphins last year, is somehow an upgrade and will turn around Henne's career.

While I would love to see the Dolphins prove me wrong and actually have a winning season. I happen to think that Sparano and Ireland are in over their heads as an NFL head coach and GM. In looking at their schedule this coming season, I just don't see the Dolphins winning more than four or five games. The only long term hope for the Dolphins is that the owner will finally decide after this season that it is time to get rid of Sparano and Ireland and hire a GM and a head coach who actually knows how to build a winning organization.

There are no more excuses for the play of the Dolphins and while, hope may spring eternal, the fact is that this will be another long year for Dolphin fans and another year with no real chance of making the playoffs. Next year at this time I expect that we will all be discussing the future under a new head coach and GM. I also believe that most of the discussions will have to do with the new QB the Dolphins selected in the first round of the 2012 draft, after the new coach and GM finally end the Henne era and cut or trade him for a seventh round draft pick.

The 1-15 thing has been a poor excuse since 2010 anyway. The Falcons and Jets won 4 games in 2007, look at them, especially the Falcons.

I can't believe this is their 4th season with this regime! 2008 feels like it was just yesterday. Slow down time.

You're right, a better way for me to have phrased it would have been, "they've had 4 years to build the trenches". That's why this year will either be a team and GM and coaching failure or success. You don't get 5 years in this league. At least you shouldn't...

Without making any excuses for The Soprano Family, why should it surprise anyone that the Falcons first-string played better than ours after the long lockout?

Their players on offense and defense have played together for a while: ours were missing key players on both sides of the ball, and some (Davis, Smith) were on opposite sides of the field last year. Offense is still learning a totally new playbook.

The OL we saw last night will certainly NOT be the OL we start the season with.

Having said that, Henne still reminds me of The Girl With The Curl (when she was good, she was very very good, and when she was bad she was horrid...), but I can remember going to the SB with David Woodley, for whom scanning the field and looking off DB's were foreign concepts

There are areas of concern, but there are some very bright spots as well.

And BTW, it's never a good idea to respond to an ignorant Bills troll on our forum, they will just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

While I am not one of the Dolphin fans who thinks the Dolphins are better at this time than the Bills. I am certainly not a fan of the Bills, Jets, or Patriots. I just happen to be a realistic Dolphin fan who isn't so fanatical that I can't see that the Dolphins,as an organization are not headed in the right direction. I happen to have been a fan of the Dolphins since 1966, their first year in the AFC. I was a season ticket holder for well over 30 years. My wife and I have also traveled to over 25 away games over the years. After last season I had decided that I would not renew my season tickets unless Ross made drastic changes in the organization. This included getting rid of Ireland and Sparano. When these changes were not made, I did not renew my season tickets for the first time in the last 30 plus years. I have received numerous letters and phone calls from the Dolphins wanting to know why I didn't renew the four season tickets I have purchased during these years. I have talked to them on the phone and written responses, expressing my displeasure with the teams play over the last decade.

While I will continue to root for the team this season. I have very low expectations and I suspect that the Bills and the Dolphins will be playing for third place in the AFC East, since neither team can compete with the Jets or Patriots over the course of a 16 week schedule. It would not surprise me if the Bills don't finish higher in the division than the Dolphins because I think they have a far superior QB at this time. As I stated earlier, the best thing about this coming season is that it will eventually lead to the firing of Sparano and Ireland and the permanent replacement of Henne as the QB of the future.

I appreciate your defense of your Bills, and right now I have to agree that both the Dolphins and Bills are about equal in talent. Of course by stating that, all I am admitting is that both teams are near the bottom in the NFL. So neither of us should be proud of our organizations at this point in time. I certainly look forward to the day when the Dolphins are once again a top team in the NFL and instead of being concerned with, if they are better than the Bills or not. The discussion is, how far they can go in the playoffs or can they win the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, this Dolphin team does not appear to merit these type of questions, and being better than the Bills in the AFC East appears to be the best they can hope for this season. Of course, being better than the Bills this season is certainly no sure thing for this Dolphin team.

No, it means acting like a jackass and talking smack just to bait members. Now either have a serious discussion or leave before it's not a choice.

We have plenty of our own fans who are less then optimistic at times. But trolling by definition is making blanket statements to engage and incite opposing fans. Take that bs elsewhere...whether it's a bills fan or a phins fan that is not wanted here.

I think henne can be an average qb at best but if we can get something out of thomas and bush establish around 4yds per carry and improve our special teams (which killed us last year) we can win 10 games and beat out the jets for a wildcard.I think our defence can be top 3 this year but we need turnovers this year.Dropped ints is another thing that killed us last year.
I think the jets are going to drop off this year despite the medias love for rex and the boys and come on sanchez is no tom brady and they made two afc championships.
I am afraid the offence will get off to a slow start due the lockout and new offensive system but hopefully the defence can carry us for the first few weeks.
Hopefully this all of this occurs because if it doesn't i will be the first one to jump off of the bandwagon because i always try to stay positive before the season starts.
