That would be true for the offense. On defense, Patterson entered the league in 2004, and Marshall was close to that.
I think Starks will end up the wise old vet as he also entered the NFL in 2004. IMO, hard to see Patterson making this year's roster at his salary.
Leach would be a great signing, obviously. But, I don't see why there is a puzzle about claiming Rodriguez. Leach himself stated already that his preference would be to play for the Texans. So, Miami will have to offer a significantly sweeter deal and there's no guarantee that will happen at this point. We are in good cap shape but not that good because we have to use carry-over to afford next year's deals. And there are already some one year guys on the team (e.g., Grimes) that they may want to really go after hard to re-up. So, bringing in Rodriguez is vital because Leach is anything but a done deal. And, competition is always good. More the better.
the puzzle about claiming ERod is that we brought him in fresh off multiple arrests. Ireland must really like this kid. Don't expect us to offer Leach too much $, unless Philbin/Sherman demand his services. You may remember one Leron McClain.... perrenial probowler for the ravens, considered the best fullback in the league..... they droppped him just as quick, and he hasnt been the same player.
Evan Rodriguez' blocking grade from PFF is really intriguing because he's got natural ability as a pass catcher. I watched him live at Shrine practices and I could see that myself, he moves and catches the football like a tight end. He's built like one except a little smaller. That pass catching didn't translate as a rookie but he probably had to learn to run routes from different starting points and to put more emphasis on different things. I didn't see a ton of potential in Rodriguez coming out because even though he's got some nice pass catching ability and athleticism, his size and overall skill set never dictated him to stand out at the tight end position. He was one of those guys that you really WANTED to like but just couldn't see how the puzzle pieces would all fit together given a certain set of limitations. If he's actually a good lead blocker (and the only source on record suggesting he is would be PFF so I don't want to get too carried away) that actually could be a game changer, the missing puzzle piece that makes it all work for him longer term. Just have to keep him out of trouble and, from the sound of it, that may be too tall an order for him.
Too bad it may come down to that. I'm sure he is one of our 5 best corners talent wise, and teams usually carry 5. Some less talented player maybe kept though just because he makes vet minimum or thereabouts.
According to this, he left without signing. http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2013/06/vonta_leach_who_had_drawn_inte.html The bidding war is on.
Don't despair, Alex. Money talks. BS walks. He has his offer from Miami. He'll shop it to other teams, give each team a chance to match or better it, and shop any better offer again. He'll then go with the highest bidder. Why should he sign before he goes through that exercise?
just a feeling that it won't happen with us, the fact he prefers the texans and they are also interested makes me think he will eventually sign with them
Texans signed greg jones a while ago, I don't see them keeping 2 really good fullbacks so I would take Greg if they release him for Leach or we end up with leach. Win-win
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...weighing-his-options-20130614,0,6207697.story Apparently Leach and the Dolphins are still talking after he has left, but there is no timetable on a decision. Here's hoping the Texans cap situation and their desire not to get rid of Greg Jones influences his decision. In the meantime, here's Leach blindsiding Casey Hampton on a motion block http://www.baltimoreravens.com/vide...-Hampton/b87ca892-c069-4a20-956c-babc396a04df and folding Patrick Willis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7I5A05f8T8
well folks it looks like the rebirth of the full has finally returned. I would not have been disappointed had they brought back Lousalka Polite . I wonder how many 4 wr sets or how many two backs , 2 wr's and a tightend set we will use. I would love to see a another Tony Paige or Larry Csonka come along though.
