That's why they went Fitzpatrick and Baker as their top two defensive picks. This defense is finally figuring out that you have to have speed and versatility in today's NFL. One too many instances of Kiko Alonso standing stone-footed or getting put on skates in coverage helped the change.
I really got the impression that Kiko’s problem was he had to think and act for all three LB positions because the other guys couldn’t be relied on. Give him some reliable supports and let hime do his own job and I’m fairly confident he can perform at a higher level.
Quick note: One out of place HC on that one gap list is Dan Quinn. He runs a hybrid gap defense just like Carroll, Saleh, and Bradley. All of whom use pretty much the same 4-3 Under scheme that Carroll developed at USC.
Yep. Same impression I think the team has too. Lawrence timmons looked like he aged a little more every game he was out there.
Since Kiko got here, I've seen multiple instances of him clearly being in coverage and having a TE or someone else break right across his face without him so much as twitching in their direction. He's just not good in coverage I think.
Poa play and carry coverage are the two weaknesses of Kiko Always will be. But eliminating air space in coverage can help. That and having a hopefully rangy free safety type player in minkah back there to make up for a few deficiencies at lb. Minkah can’t do that playing slot corner. So I hope miami tries to get its most bang for its buck from the player.
