csonka sure was fun to watch. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHX-obVmY5I"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHX-obVmY5I[/ame]
One of my favorite Phins of all-time. I love that style. I love how he use to forearm people to knock them out of the way.
This is what made me a Dolphin fan way back when. Its what I see this team now trying to become and it makes my heart go pitter pat. Ronnie Brown sure reminds me a LOT of Larry Csonka, Ronnie is a bit faster tho and no I'm not really comparing the two in any way, just the way they play(ed) the game, looking for contact, always going forward, bouncing off tacklers. Thanks for the video.
It sure is nice that we have two running backs that pretty much share the same style of csonka. Nothing more that I love during a game than watching ronnie or ricky, especially ronnie just running guys over... Great to see this csonka video though... thanks!
He was the opposing DBs worst nightmare .They couldnt get him down and they would get run over to boot . Having said that he is now second place on all my time favorite Dolphin RB list. Ronnie Brown can run over people too plus he is a much more versatile back.As well as power he has speed ,vision and great receiving skills. But its tough to compare players from different epocas.Csonka had a terrific OL to run behind .You can see gaping holes in the video .Ronnie needs an OL like that .
And as great a runner he was to watch, that OL was really something special... I certainly hope to see that kind of run blocking from this group soon...that would be special...the one play where Little was pulling (that they telestrated out), that was Marshall that was being blocked, not exactly a second teamer...more like a HOFer...
Man, I loved Csonka. He was tough. A big clown off the field. Saw him and Kiick on a talk show. He talked about all the announcers saying he was slow to get up. He said he would just lay there to rest. LOL He was one of the best IMO. I still like to hear him interviewed. Plus, he still loves his Dolphins.
I remember those days very well, all we had to do was take the lead and feed the ball to Zonk and watch him run out the clock. They knew he was getting the ball and they could'nt stop him.
I think he broke his nose something like 9 times. You have to love a RB that can lay out a defender so thoroughly while running the ball that he got a 15 yard penalty for unnecessary roughness.
All I have is video of that era considering I wasn't even born yet when they had the greatest run in the history of the league. But it does highlight to me the injustice of Kuch not being in the HOF.
Even just 10 years later, (approx.) when Shula drafted a kid named Ron Landry he was said to run "too upright"...and he was the closest to Csonka's style as I ever saw again. Csonka might not get far today because of his running style. But he's a Hall of Famer for what he did do.
I was blasting some Rammstein when I started watching this. Nothing like watching Larry Csonka bowl people over while listening to german industrial metal! One thing. Besides how great Csonka was lokk how great that o-line was. Just blasting big gaping holes for him. And then we he did hit a defender Csonka just powered down for every available inch. Great stuff!!
Of course. Much better than the previous game here (although we have had great success here over the years except the playoff game). It's funny how quickly and quietly Mile High empties out after a loss.
Welcome Denver, I'm glad you joined us. We have a forum to say hello, you ought to, give a chance to welcome you proper.. Introduce Yourself Thanks for the video bro! I seriously miss the old aqua.
Hi all. Newbie poster here. Just wanted to say that watching Larry Csonka play was one of my greatest memories as a kid when I was just really getting into football. And, in truth, he was one the biggest reasons why I first became a Dolphins fan. So, I really enjoyed watching that highlight reel. Yeah, I used to love watching him run over and through opposing defenses. A better inside runner I cannot remember, and have yet to see since. I can still see him getting the hand off, hitting line, getting buried, and then watching the whole line move five yards forward. Simply amazing. Oh, and I also thought that little do-hickey thing on the top of his face mask was really cool too. It was sort of his trademark. That and the bruising forearm shiver he laid on LB's and DB's alike once he broke through the line. At any rate, just wanted to say I sure as hell enjoyed watching it. Brought back some really good memories. Thanks for posting that calphin! G
