I disagree. A WR is a moving part that needs other variables to succeed, thus making him possibly a da tor. But no one generally blames a W or L on a WR, just because it’s not that kind of a position for the most part. Just because he has been our best offensive player the last 4 years, doesn’t mean he should’ve been in my opinion. It’s a testament to everyone else being subpar.
The dolphins better think seriously about unloading Parker now and bring in someone like Dez Bryant. Parker has all the tools, but I bet he doesn't play more than 8 games this year which will make it hard to make the playoffs without a good wideout.
Are you able to comprehend that saying what Landry brings to the table didn't affect wins is different than saying we lost because of Landry? Instead of trying to troll and play gotcha, actually try to understand what is being said. Landry isn't going to take a screen 60 yards for a TD. He's not a deep threat. His skill set isn't going to work as a #1 receiver. That is what I was saying. I don't care how much rave reviews he's getting, when it comes down to it, you need an actual deep threat on the team.
I did. Again, I’m happy with our current situation at WR without Jarvis. I just find it distasteful how some folks can go from fully supporting a guy to all of a sudden criticizing his Wr room speech and calling a training camp fight (they happen multiple times a year) some proof of just how bad he was. Some people weren’t big fans of his before he left, I have no issue with that. It’s just the “flip” of a lot of other people who praised this guy for years and our now calling him a one dimensional turd. So yes the video is disgusting. But let’s be honest DJ, his words about Tannehill pissed these guys off WAYYY more than any DV he committed.
Again, you're letting personal beliefs about posters affect your thoughts on this. People who fully supported Landry a year or two ago didn't have the same information available to them then that is available now. So, now people know what kind of a person he is, and they know what he was like in the locker room, and so their opinion has changed. It literally has nothing to do with the fact that he's not a Dolphin, but everything to do with the fact that we now know he's not a good teammate.
I see this one differently. I'm not going to blame the WR who is paid to catch the ball, for catching the ball. If you believe he was being targeted more then he should have been that's on the QB/play calling. If you believe he was catching the ball because he was one of the only options that got open, that's on all of the other WRs. If you believe that the QB was throwing the easy read every time instead of letting plays develop down field then that's on the QB. If you believe he was pushing his will on the QB making him throw him the ball... then that is one horribly weak QB. I just don't see how you blame the WR for negatively effecting W/L when all he is doing is catching the ball that's thrown to him, or running the route that the play called for. If Landry had a ton of drops or tipped passes into the defenders hands, then I can see some blame coming his way. I think we can at least all agree that when he did catch the ball he did everything he could to make yards after the catch. Defenses knew we were going to throw to him and defended appropriately, again that's not on Landry either.
I've personally said multiple times that I loved the guy up until I saw him throwing a punch last season IN WEEK 10 OR 11. Then there was the taunting, the celebrations, the unsportsmanlike penalties piling up and finally starting the brawl (while denying any responsibility whatsoever). By the close of week 17, I really didn't want him on our roster for the price he was asking. And as Resnor said, that's before we fully knew about the locker room stuff and the Hard Knocks film. I still wish the guy luck- I hope he has an awesome year and establishes himself as a legit WR1. I just don't want any player on our team that has to be told weekly to stop celebrating, stop spiking your helmet, stop hitting people, stop running your mouth after the play, etc. To me, that crap negates every good thing he's ever done in Miami. And I'd say the exact same thing about Wake, Tannehill or any other player that continually hurt the team with their immature outbursts of aggression.
Fair enough, maybe "blame" is too strong of a word. We did give him every possible chance to succeed though and it resulted in a 6-10 season. I don't see how that equates to "best receiver in the league", because that's how he expected to be paid. I do agree though; coaching, Cutler and many other factors went into the losses. I simply meant that Landry shares a decent part of that blame- not only for the lack of production, but the fights, penalties, etc. as well. The first person I always blame is either the QB or the coach...it's hard to point the finger at anyone else really.
Yeah I didn't want him for anywhere near the money he was asking for. I had a sick feeling in my gut when I thought the team was going to offer him 12mil. I agree he is not a #1, or at least not a #1 that's going to be a game changer of any type. He is a great slot receiver though, if you can get rid of the penalties and selfishness at least.
I thing it is an evolution of a complicated evaluation, and trying to find the why on all fronts. The conclusions are seemingly becoming more evident that maybe he was a cancer for a locker room, despite how hard he runs after a catch.. There are a lot of guys in a locker room that want to win real bad..if he generalizes players in that they are not as passionate as he is, your going to wear out your welcome real quick. Dude, I was willing to give the guy 12 a year so I was willing to look past Some of the antics..but I really didn’t know he was this much of a punk..And because he is this much of a punk, then I’m sure that had a negative effect on the chemistry. Like what did we do to him..
Yeah, this is what I'm getting at. If you gave Antonio Brown 10 catches a game, would his production significantly affect the potency of the offense? Yes it would. Did Landry significantly improve the offense by him getting the majority of targets? I don't believe so. Now, is it Landry's fault he was targeted? Not totally. But, he's not the kind of receiver that is going to change games on his own.
I was willing to go to 12 because of certain things, mostly prorating the durability of the guy, he’s gonna give you 16 games and change every year...that has value.
And the Dolphins 11M. So that proves to me that him being as big of a “cancer” as us common folks seem to think. We heard last year he was disruptive mid season, this we’ve known. But again, despite ALL that we tried to re-sign him. That speaks volumes
That was actually a risk that worked out well for Miami. It could’ve went either way honestly, I’m glad it worked out for us however.
In 2017, the Bills had the 22nd ranked offense (ppg) with Tyrod Taylor. Tyrod's offense in Buffalo was supported by the 18th ranked defense. Last year, the Browns had the 31st ranked defense (ppg) so you would figure that Tyrod will have even less support. The Bills managed 9-7 last year with a solid running game and a few weapons. So, I think the Browns are likely in the 4-5 win territory with 8-8 being the best possible scenario. Not sure what happens if they go to a rookie in Baker Mayfield. Could get hot (maybe that's the 8-8 season)...might get rough. Here's their 2018 schedule. I've bolded the teams I think are worth of 8-8 or better. That means, the Browns are likely not winning those games. That leaves 4-5 other games from which to pick and I'm probably under-rating the Chargers with Rivers, the Bucs since they'll start Fitzpatrick at QB over Jameis and the Texans with Deshaun Watson. I don't know...how many wins you got there? Res was right, looks rough. 01 - Steelers 02 - Saints 03 - Jets 04 - Raiders 05 - Ravens 06 - Chargers 07 - Bucs 08 - Steelers 09 - Chiefs 10 - Falcons 11 - Bengals 12 - Texans 13 - Panthers 14 - Broncos 15 - Bengals 16 - Ravens
If I'm being honest, I see 1 or 2 wins if they play average and maybe 4-5 wins if they over-achieve. That's a brutally hard schedule...the Jets are the only real "gimmie" and I'd still pick the Jets there. The Chargers should probably be in bold as well and the Bucks/Texans are never slouches. And the Broncos have a solid D....I can't see a single game where they'll be favored. Maybe the Raiders will start slow with their new coach? I'm grasping here but there's not much to go with.
Well, lest we not forget that they absolutely should have beaten the Dolphins in Miami last time they played. Let's not overrate their opponents. The Steelers go through stretches where they're God-awful (i.e. Ajayi's 200-yd game where the entire Steelers D elected to stay on the bus). The Bengals are middle of the road. The Chiefs will start Mahomes and likely struggle to some degree. I would say there are plenty of spots in that schedule for the Browns opponents to hand them opportunities. If they have Tyrod Taylor back there, they will avoid being putrid. So long as you do that, you're out of the 1-2 win territory IMHO. I think they'll do everything in their power to feature Landry and Njoku which means they'll move the chains. That means they'll score some. You do that and it's hard to win fewer than 3-4 games. Call me an optimist, LOL.
That's true- it was our worst game that year and they handed it to us at the last second (to send it to overtime). They have the same issue we experienced pre-2016....they just don't close out games when its close. I'm with you though, I hope Landry has a monster year, proves us all wrong and they sneak into the playoffs as a Cinderella team. I root for the huge underdog every year (LOL, after we are eliminated) so I'd happily hop on that bandwagon.
I wouldn’t have bolded the Ravens. Flacco has been below average for at least 3 years now, and they have Lamar Jackson waiting in the wings. If Flacco has another poor year that leaves the Ravens vulnerable.
Yet the Ravens have a history of blowing us out. I'd put them in bold, italics, double the font, add 5 asterisks and circle that game for good measure. The path to the Super Bowl requires beating Baltimore, so that's always a huge game in my mind to gauge where we really stand.
