Its just a case of who they wanted to go to bed with..Flynn's tools didn't measure up to the stud rooks. No homo..
Exactly. You can't look at Flynn and envision a potential Aaron Rodgers...... but it's a different story with Tannehill. The fact we took Tannehill at #8 (without attempting to trade back) should speak for itself regarding RT's importance in relation to Flynn or Moore.
Peterson conducted the Jeff Fisher interview. Remember Darlington's (IIRC) report that the Dolphins were conducting two parallel coaching searches, one led by Ireland and one led by Peterson?
I'd like to know who the source was, not that it really matters though when you dissect what's being said. Obviously the source wasn't referring to his own personal opinion [unless the source was Ireland] b/c only Ireland can truly make that type of talent assessment judgement for the organization. What's most plausible is the source is paraphrasing or quoting Ireland's decision b/c someone responsible for assessing talent had to have the ultimate say on whether or not the organization deemed Orton as a "non franchise QB".
Translating the above: "Orton is a nice quarterback" = Ross's desire to initially pursue him. "But he's not a franchise quarterback" = Ireland's ultimate evaluation of Orton "we weren't going to pay him like one when he isn't one." = Ross's decision to shut it down based on Ireland's evaluation. Considering Ireland was reportedly interested in Locker & Ponder and had an even bigger QB crush on Tannehill, I simply don't see Orton fitting into that mold of QB to where Ireland would view him as his desired option for the future.
