I wonder what his level of desire and commitment is going to be this year?? One thing about Rex, the guy knows how to get players to believe in him... Jets NT Kris Jenkins revealed that he considered retiring after tearing his ACL early last winter. Postponing his broadcasting career, the 31-year-old ultimately decided to give it a go for "at least one more year." "The biggest thing was Rex (Ryan)," he says. "If it had been another coach, it probably would've been my last year." Jenkins admits he's in "the twilight of my career," but recovered ahead of schedule and still has plenty of run-stopping ability left in the tank. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/20/sports/football/20jenkins.html?_r=3&ref=football
Ineffective at best this year. He won't last the season without getting injured again. But their defense will still be good without him.
No reason to believe he can't still have a great year. JT pondered retirement prior to the 2006 season. He won DPOY that year. When you're a vet in the midst of a tough rehab, it's natural to ponder whether you can still do it and whether you want to go thru it.
With his weight and the injury to his knee, I wonder how mobile he will be this season. His best days are behind him for sure. I get the feeling that tough interior linemen will finally be able to plant and drive him off the ball. Once the wheels come off, it is the beginning of the end.
He elevate's that defense tremendously, my hope is two fold, one, His explosiveness has to take a hit with that acl injury, 2, I hope the retirement demon haunts his dreams.. Plus I think he has 1 foot out the door into a broadcasting career, he's really funny and charasmatic, and he know's it... Without Kris Jenkin's the jets defense is overrated.
The most overrated #1 NFL defense ever...lol.. They just don't scare me without Jenkins...Their good because of Revis. The impact that he has on that defense is anything but overrated, he makes the rest of the players play on an uneven playing field because of his range and the fact that qb's are working away from him. so to me, Revis is that good, not the defense.....I like how we match up with them though, without Jenkins, so I hope the demons get the best of him. .
That's an interesting way to look at it. Personally, I don't like matching up with Rex Ryan. I think he's a helluva defensive mind, with or without Jenkins.
Problem is Alen, in 09 it was Scheme, RR really was sharp in designing blitzes and coverages, fast forward to 10, and they still don't have a passrusher on the order of Suggs, they needed someone like that because the Scheme will be solved and they don't have the athletes to simply outperform Offensive adjustments that will most certainly happen. RR is going to try and make do with Taylor, and we all watched him last season, many many times he was easily neutralized via single blocking, Matt Light pretty much owned him. In fact, outside of the Bills game, the first Bills game, Taylor was not a very good passrusher in 09, he still has some range, but that athletic explosion was just not there anymore. Without that constant edge rushing threat who can split double teams the Colts blueprint will be seen all around the league to counter RR's "illusion of pressure".
They'll be fine. Scheme or not, you still need quality athletes to make the scheme work IMO. People don't give Rex Ryan enough credit. He may be a loud mouth and arrogant but he can coach defense better than anyone in this league.
please retire. Alen, Ryan may very well be the best defensive coach now that JJ is dead and Kiffin is in college, but would you agree with the argument that a team can't be one dimensional and win a super bowl?
I think its tough to do but if you look at the Ravens team that won the Super Bowl, they were about as one dimensional as you can get. They mostly ran the ball and just played tough defense. Jamal Lewis and Priest Holmes had nearly 2000 yards combined.
Hmm, I see you may not have heard of the "Gritz Blitz"? Anywho, they had what 23 sacks last season? The only passrusher they picked up was Taylor, and they started all Veterans, realistically, where will their sacks come from? Granted sacks are not the be all end all, TFL's, pressures, Qb hits and hurries count as well, however I've looked at their personnel and most of the starters are veterans, their upside is..now..and yet they had problems putting the Qb on the ground.
I'm not concerned about their pass rush. Quarterback hits and hurries, which you note, are underrated statistics. I would bet that they were near the top in those two categories. I remember Belichick once said something like "Sacks get all the love but they are a little overrated. Pressures and hits are nearly as important." EDIT: I was a bit off with the quote. Read it below.
Scratch that, it was Seymour who said it. http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2009/08/thoughts_from_s.html Good interview, btw.
Sparano said pretty much the same thing, the odd issue is, it is hard to find TFL stats, PFF has hits and pressures but not an overall ranking. How about completions allowed per game? http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-completions-per-game Oddly enough the Jest were #2, Dphins..#3.. Jets: Sacks 41/hits 56/ pressures 179 Dolphins 46/46/126 Oddly enough for the Jets, their numbers were similar to 08's however they did have 50 more pressures, or 3 more per game..
If you're grading by completions allowed and you get to the quarterback but he just throws it up, like Favre does, and miraculously completes it, how is that fair to the pass rushers when grading them?
I'd say that would be totally fair, as whether it is a miracle reception, or a beautiful pass, it is still a completion.
he is a beacon of light and class amidst that crap filled organization. there were times last year, he was outspokenly embarrassed to be a part of that organization and all the **** talking.
wow, after watching Jenkins on NFL total access, im pretty certain he hates the Jets and especially their fans.
but he didn´t tear his knee the year before, i really doubt he will be the kris jenkins we all know, at least not on a regular basis, with all this weight on his balky knees, i believe he won´t make it through the whole season
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ins-takes-a-shot-at-a-former-teammate-or-two/ Jenks also missed most of a season due to tearing his ACL in his other knee. Losing Jones and Feeley is going to hurt the Jets over the course of the season.
I read that last night. I don't understand how bashing players who left the team Jenkins is currently playing for means that Jenkins hates the fans of and the team he's currently playing for.
He sent a clear cut message to Jet fans on NFLTA saying no matter if we win or lose we are trying to win a SB and the fans will be happy if they win and will bash them hard if they lose. He said either way the fans get what they want. He was talking directly to them. I have to admit Jenkins is pretty straight forward in the interview although he calls himself a jokester. He was dead serious when addressing their fans. It was a good interview.
