From what I saw of him last year he did a good job on draws and plays that gave him some space due to the threat of the passing game and the spread of the defense. That is something the Philly offense created a lot of and if Lazor brings a lot of that here, Moreno could be a pretty productive back.

Absolutely. Basically the complete opposite of what Sherman did.

Ouch. I never was that impressed with Brown's vision. Best thing might be he should improve the blitz pick up and seems have decent hands.

NFL Insiders say they expect it to get done. They see a lot of RB's coming out so there may not be much interest in him. I hope this means we get him and get him on the cheap. Made $1.7 million last year. I would be fine w/ that for 2-3 years.

He did have good vision for a while but it seemed like once he got hurt he started dancing a lot more.

Wow, MJD almost $5 million last year. Give me Moreno all day instead of that money.

Just give me some consistent talent, good pass protection, and good hands out if the backfield, and we'll have a serious improvement over the last two years.

At this point, I'd be shocked if it happens now at all. I think Moreno probably wanted more than we were willing to pay, and we may look at some other options.

Nothing, just my opinion. Which I'm entitled to. He left here, without a deal, chances are he's going to have other visits, some of which may be more attractive than us. We were his first visit, its a slim RB FA pool, RB isn't as valued as it once was, he's therefore a later FA choice for most teams, he's likely going to have other visits, he if left our facility, we just may not get him... Id like to see us get him, but if he left, there's a reason. He's either got more visits lined up, or didnt like what he offered.

He can not just run the ball but also catch it. All around back. Plus like one person says, does not show off!

One thing we know now is Lamar Miller is not the answer at running back.

I think the vet backs are upset with their prices. MJD left the steelers and they brought in blunt for a meeting. I wouldn't pay any back on the market over 3 million/year. Too many good RBs in the draft and not enough openings. I mean, who really needs a back? Only $ available is split carry type $. After the draft the price will be even lower and either MJD, blunt, Moreno, or CJ2k will be left w/o a job and hoping to get signed.

Patience will win the RB game of musical chairs this year

Of course you're entitled to your opinion. Just curious to see if you have any inside info that can be coaxed out of you.

It does not make sense in this market for Dawn to give Moreno our best offer up front, just as it doesn't make sense for Moreno to take the first offer we give him. Time for both to step back and see what elee is on offer, and circle back to see if anyone else offers and if the Dolphins or anyone else will offer more. It'll take a while until the market is set and the best offer is made, but whatecer happens will happen before the draft.

There are several rbs out there than can help us, but given the draft and the plethora of RBs available in FA, it's not a serious need to fill out at this time with the first one to come along. I like Moreno and he fits pretty well what we need, but I'm willing to wait it out to see what develops first...there's a reason a 5th yr RB is on the FA market...

Perhaps, but I still think he has potential. I want to see what he can do behind a better O-line, and with a better OC calling the plays.

Not sayin' I don't want to see us upgrade at the position if we can. Just that I'm not ready to give up on Miller yet.

Where did you see that he left? If true, I'm a little disappointed.

One benefit to signing him or another FA is it frees us up in the draft.

This. Lamar Miller probably isn't ever going to be a great RB in this league, but I'd also like to see what he could do behind an offensive line even bordering on competent. He hasn't had that chance yet unless you count 2012, and he did ok in those few opportunities.

That almost mirrors my thinking on this FUBAR we had on the offensive line. I have seen glimpses when given the slightest chance at at gap the Lamar could possilby, just possibly, be a good running back. Trouble is, he couldn't block my grandma in a wheelchair from what I have seen.

But behind last year's line, I don't think Csonka could have done any good, unless he kicked each one of them in the tukkis in practice, about several times for each mistake.

Unless Hickey, Philbin, and Aponte get the O line straight NOW (as in during this offseason!) we will be watching reruns of last year's game on live television. Other moves are good and necessary - but that objective must be met or the other moves will count for zip?

I wouldn't sign Moreno and consider him the answer at RB. He has injury concerns and was considered a bust until Peyton's offense arrived. Right now he's riding Peyton's coattailes and the Bronco's know it. Hopefully Hinkey knows it as well.

i still want to see what miller can do. even with that god awful line last year he averaged 4.0 yards a carry. he could have done better if philbin and sherman didn't abandon the run, especially in games where he was doing good.

Would be very dumb to sign him IMO. Signing a free agent running back is dumb when you have Miller already as well as a huge RB class in the draft

I kind of disagree. Having three backs with one specialty each makes you one dimensional.

I don't think it'd be dumb at all. Knocking RB off the list of draft needs adds a significant amount of flexibility.

Any back in particular? Bc I don't see any sure things out there, especially with a staff that seems hesitant to play rookies at pretty much any position.

And after last year Id rather pay extra for a sure thing than roll the dice on a rook. If we sign him we are basically down to TE and OL as need spots, allowing for more BPA drafting, always a plus IMO.

Well, every good RB has to do multiple things but will have strengths. The classic illustration here is the Giants when they had Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw. Ward was a bit more all-around. Jacobs was power (but had surprising speed once he got rolling). And Bradshaw was a more big play threat. It worked great. Even when the D knew a different runner was in, it was still difficult to adjust because different plays would be run for the backs or when the same play was run, one back went through the hole with great physicality; then the next would explode through with speed. New England does a great job with multiple RBs these days.

Getting another RB in the mix doesn't mean you give up on Miller. "RB by committee" is the norm in the NFL these days (except for teams with great backs). But, Miller is not a single-back starter. He's better off as a "mix and match" type where he can hit a big play here and there with his speed.

I am not a Moreno fan - as recent posts noted. His stats are very average. Nearly 1/4 of his 1000 yards came in one game last year. Abramson had a good stat that confirmed the "eye test" on Moreno. He does nothing really special.

EDIT: To expand the point above. I just do not get the Moreno love. The Patriots basically begged Denver to run the ball. He gained 224 yds. on a 6.1 avg. that game. Take away that anomaly game and he had 204 carries, 814 yards (3.99 ypc). Not great when you factor in the benefit of Manning's passing and the advantage of draws and catching the D off balance. A good RB (not great) should consistently get 4.6-5.0+ in that offense. The one positive about him is pass receiving.

I'd prefer to go after Drew or Blount over Moreno. Dump Thomas. Then draft a RB in rounds 3-5. Blount has great power; Miller has speed; and I think we can get a quality RB in the middle rounds (esp. since the RB position has been devalued so).

Thomas has to go, imo. He does not run with force (except on occasion) and he is horrific as a pass blocker. Drew and Blount would improve the blocking and give more power. As long as Drew does not have to be the work-horse, he'll do well. But, Blount could be a workhorse, add power to the running game, and then we could bringing in another RB in the draft.

I haven't really looked at the other guys, just read what's written here, but I think Hyde is a sure thing. I know he runs hard, breaks tackles, has good hands and can block. I don't think he's probably worth 19, but if here were there for us at round 2 I think he would be money in the bank.
