They are clearly pulling for him but yet they stand behind Chad and tell him they won't trade him away. It's an open competition. Probably just means they want Kellen to really step it up, otherwise the Jets will have to go with the "proven" winner in Chad Pennington...god forbid.
Yeah, not sure how there is any evidence on the "clearly pulling" side. Hopefully the best man will win. For me, as a huge Chad supporter, we need to give Kellen the best chance to become the QB they drafted him to be. He has the arm and the smarts, not just needs more experience. BZ
I really doubt they're "clearly pulling" for Kellen, but it sure would be nice for him to display the ability to play. Right now I honestly feel if our new Oline gels, then Chad gets the starting job. Chad, with time in the pocket, is a good QB. He's not going to throw the ball deep successfully much, but I think with the addition of Dustin Keller, Chad could flourish in the medium pass range. And this is coming from someone who has used every curse word imaginable to describe ole noodle arm.
There is no way the organization is "clearly pulling" for Kellen Clemens. Mangini had to wait until Pennington single handedly threw away four games last season before pulling him for Clemens after a 1-7 start. Its obvious the Jets want Pennington, the man with the coin and the highest selling jersey numbers of any player on the team, to start.
I would say it's conjecture due to Clemons being the guy drafted during the Mangini era; not to mention he was a 2nd rd pick. Plus at 32, there's more of a chance that Pennington will become more injury prone, as opposed to less injury prone. So, it seems reasonable that they would really be hoping for Clemons to play well enough to win the starting spot. Much the same way KC surely wants Croyle to pan out. And Denver wants Cutler to be good enough to win the job. It's nothing more than - you draft a guy and you want him to be good.

I think Kellen will be fine this year behind a solid O-line..last year you could have thrown Marino back there and he would have struggled.
