You're 22 so I hope you aren't married , but when your wife says "fine" it isn't , believe me and every other older married dude.

    Fine doesn't work here either.

We have a lot of question marks , far less answers and a dearth of playmakers on both sides of the ball . We also have some glaring weaknesses. Ireland mentioned about the Vonte deal , and I am paraphrasing but this is pretty accurate , we thought it was the best way to build this team . No Cinderella story in South Fla this year.

Tough for me to, Dougy. The approach I agree with. Hopefully our coach is the right man for the job.

I agree a 2 is too much, but they may be looking at from the aspect of total picks we'd have afterwards. Having an extra 2 and 6 may make then more likely to not mind paying a 3 or 4. A 3rd is borderline for Jones, but a 4 would be a very good deal IMO.

I do not agree. Jones has done much more as a WR to this point, than Gordon had as a RB when we traded for him. Still, just because we gained a 2 does not mean we'd have to pay that same exact pick or round to get Jones.

I don't think he lacks in intelligence, and even if he isn't smart enough to explain quantum physics, who the heck cares? He's got the instincts and AA to cover NFL receivers man to man at a high level. That is, or should be, the main thing.

IMO, that's still overpaying for a guy who's potentially going to be cut. At this point you're negotiating a price to skip the waiver process and just have the guy come directly to your team.

That's worth a 5th at most, IMO, and I'd be reluctant to give that up. I don't care how bad our WRs are, James Jones isn't the savior of the unit and we shouldn't be desperate to overpay in a rebuilding year. I'd pull a Ryan Grigson and open talks at a 6th.

What makes you think Jones is going to be cut

I don't think he's going to be cut. But the popular opinion is that the Packers aren't desperate to keep him because of their numbers game at WR. So they'd be willing to talk about him.

I'm completely and utterly indifferent to James Jones.

These statements do not fit together. Given the final sentence, you DO apparently agree.

Jones is vested, so he won't be subject to waivers. He'd be a contract termination and free to sign with anyone.

I do not agree that Gordon and Jones are similar quality.

Nor is a 2nd rounder (the proposed compensation in this case) similar in quality to a 3rd rounder (the compensation for Lamar Gordon).

Sorry, I thought you were meaning trading for Jones in general would be as bad as trading for Gordon. I'd not be pleased with giving up a 2nd for Jones, but not sure that would even be as bad as the Gordon trade. I'm more thinking the exact pick we just got from the Colts will not necessarily be the same pick we trade, and it would be more of total net picks remaining for next year thing. After trading for a WR.

In all the posts previously about trading for Jones, a 2 was never suggested before this thread. So I guess I was blocking out that possible decision. :)

the chances a 5th round pick can net you a capable receiver is slim. Offer that for Jones.

    It's a start.

IMO Jones is worth a 4th. I would love to get him for a 5th and that may be possible. A 3rd might be too much, but we do have that extra 3rd from the Marshall trade. The advantage to Jones is that he could probably hit the ground running. He wouldn't have the timing down with RT, but he's basically been working in the same system for years and should have a good idea what is expected of him. My level of desperation would be largely based on what the doctors are telling me about Hartline (or what I'm seeing in his workouts). IMO Jones would be our third best receiver behind Bess and a healthy Hartline. I'd feel okay about a receiving group comprised of Hartline, Bess, Jones, Gates and Matthews (and whomever else they want) for this year and looking to add another guy in the off-season or if a trade opportunity develops. IMO that would give 3 good receivers and a couple of guys I think could develop.
