Because we went to the Super Bowl the year before and Woodley was a serviceable QB. Still, he could have started week one and it wouldn't have mattered with him. He was going to be great no matter what. Tua was being talked about as being the number one pick overall. If a QB picked #1 overall isn't NFL ready, what qb is?

Question...what is the difference between Woodley being "serviceable" vs Fitz? I am curious as Miami went to that Super Bowl in a strike shorten season..Woodley I think threw 5 TD's in those 9 games, they had the number 1 ranked defense...

So please tell me how in the hell Marino was not starting from day one as Woodley was a below average QB.

That's a great question. He should have been. Who knows, maybe it was an unwritten rule back then that rookies don't start game one. He was NFL ready the second he was drafted.

Right, the Dolphins had just went to the Super Bowl. Woodley was the starting quarterback but after he showed he wasn't cutting it any longer, it was time to make the switch. Same thing with Smith and Mahomes.

I've already pointed out the dozens of #1 picked quarterbacks that weren't NFL ready. I've also pointed out the numerous reasons as to why they don't succeed. If you have a GOOD team, you can start a rookie right from jump street and he can usually make the transition to the NFL successfully. If you have a good team and a good quarterback, sitting behind that good starter is actually a GOOD thing for the rookie.

I won't argue any of your points. But, do you actually think tua is learning anything watching Fitz? What's the purpose of it? Unless tua is still injured or he's not looking good in practice, there is no reason he shouldn't be playing. It's not like he's sitting behind Marino.

I don't know. That's what I'm saying. I don't know why he's not playing. At least Woodley led them (in some capacity) to the Super Bowl and actually played well enough for us to win. The defense lost that game. Fitz is not really that good and somehow Tua is riding the pine. I don't get it

Marino once said in an interview I watched that he learned a lot about playing at the NFL level from Don Strock, a career back-up.

Now Fitzpatrick may not be this great barnstorming quarterback but that doesn’t mean he has nothing to teach Tagovailoa

Was Joe Burrow injured last year? No. Was Tua? Yes. Case closed. whether you like where he was drafted or not. They're being careful early because hes coming off an injury. Doesnt mean he's fragile, they're being cautious. They're not making the playoffs this year. Theres ZERO reason to be this upset about it currently.

So they drafted a QB coming off of a serious injury. Sounds like a stupid strategy to me. Do you remember Dante Culpepper? I personally think tua is gonna be a bust and would like to find that out sooner than later so we can move on from it

Well, I was around here when the starting quarterback was Dick Wood - who made the TinMan look like an acrobat. They replaced him with Rick Norton - who survived three years - barely!
I think you are being impatient and that the coaching staff probably has a #ell of a lot more understanding of when a rookie quarterback should be put in the game than ANYONE typing on this board. We know nothing of how his injury is progressing in fully healing other than what the media (who of course are absolutely honest, completely knowledgeable about ALL matters football, and nonbiased!) are telling us. I would think that the medical staff and coaches know a lot more about that than we do.
What you are calling for is more like throwing a sacrificial lamb to the wolves in the mad hope that we will not be embarrassed than bringing a formerly injured first round quarterback into play when we are VERY unlikely to even sniff the playoffs this year, and let him learn the PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL game slowly as he is introduced to it through the season.
I have seen far too many QB washout and never be mentioned again with what you are calling for than those who succeed by being introduced into the game with some form of rationale and patience behind it!

On Mahomes I actually disagree.

His mechanics were some of the worst I've ever seen coming out of college. I dont know if he needed the whole year, but he is one QB I actually think benefited a lot by sitting.

I agree 100% in general though that unless the circumstances are absolute crap most QB shouldnt be "ruined" even if it's a struggle at first.

It's possible we did with Tua, but we can't possibly know at this rate. Plenty of good QBs - even without injury - sit for a year before taking over. There is no magic formula, no single "right way" to do it. Have to let it play out for now.

Dick Wood and Rick Norton...WOW!! That was just a "couple of days" before my time! LMAO

I was hoping Tua would make it into the game in the 4th quarter last night when we were sitting on a 21 point lead....it felt like a pretty safe time to have his debut. Honestly, it's the only reason I watched the entire 4th quarter. Then we had that turnover just outside the redzone and I thought surely he was getting in there....but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Wow! I listened to the Dolphins season by ARFRATS while on a tin can chasing the Bird Farm (aircraft carrier) around the Med. I was already a Dolphins fan from the opening kickoff of their first game ever. I lived in a little farming town in S. Fla. so I got it on my transistor radio. Yay! Joe Auer!!
