Alirght this for fun Mock draft will be premised on:

    1) Cleaning house on Defense with only Crowder, Anderson and Wake being retained in the Lb Corps. Y Bell Chris Clemons and Culver being kept out of the safeties and Soliai being viewed as a starting NT type

    2) Justin Smiley being waived/injured

    3) P white and Tyler Thigpen remaining as out #2 and #3 Qb's

    4) We pick in the early 20's

#22) Jermain Gresham-Henne needs a target, and Te is a happy middle ground between Wr and Olineman.

#176) Ben Tate Rb Auburn-good value, RW is 32, Ronnie B is coming off of a lis francs.

    #208) Jamar Chaney

    http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=76548&draftyear=2010&genpos=ILB

    #240) Andrew Quarles Te

I like Gresham, and think Tate would play quickly for us, but I also think this admittedly Lb heavy draft would be thinned out with maybe one more playmaker type like a Armanti Edwards or Dexter McCluster and a Lb taken later like George Selvie or John Fletcher who will be there later in the draft.

They like Te play so a double up makes sense unless Nalbone has improved, and alot depends on whether or not Joey Porter is retained, if he is let go Cam Wake is a natural WOLB, if he is kept then things become really jumbled.

Thomas isn't going in the 4th round.

And Tate's not going in the 5th.

We'll see, all I had to work with is a current Value Chart, prior to the Senior Bowl and Shrine Bowl and TX v the Nation and the Combine.

I do think Thomas will run a disappointing 40 time which will drop him into our wheel house.

    2 TE's? :pity:
    -
I do like Gresham in the first, and it really wouldn't surprise me.
    -
Tate would be a nice pick for certain
    -
I think there would be a better fit than Graham with the second pick....

On graham it really does depend what they are looking for AZ, are they serious about Wake as the SOLB? Or is he the Will? Or will they leave him as a nickel rusher?

2 Te's because Fasano may leave via FA, leaving the immortal Joey Haynos as our only Te who has played very much.

That Sam position is fascinating, do they want another Matt Roth edge setting Sam? If so Graham, Wooten, Selvie, could do that job, if they want a better all around Sam, we could OLB in rd 1 as linebackers with forwards and reverse gears are hard to find in later rounds.

It's not dropping him to the 4th round unless he runs about a 5.0

    Adarious Bowman, Marcus Monk etc...

But that sort of highlights the problem, we have a couple of slots for new blood, but we have no idea how much emphasis they will place on upgrading which position.

Recall very few as in 2 or 3 people saw Vontae Davis coming in Draft 09 not to mention pat white at #44 either, they are likely to go in any direction.

07 draft, Bowman and Monk were considered good NFL prospects and both just disappeared once the evaluation process began, Bowman was not drafted and Monk went back to Arkansas and played B-Ball for the razorbacks.

He is expected to, this draft will be packed with some good Lb prospects.

The key is, does that mean you use an early pick on a "name" or do you draft BPA and pick up a Lb that has slid back due to the bumper crop of Lb's?

    :dunno:

But that is a key to our offseason strategy, we could take G/Wr or Te/G or Te/Wr with #1 and #2, and then pick up a Lb in rd 3 or 4.

Or sign a Lb in free agency and just concentrate on offensive players with a NT thrown into the mix, and maybe a kick returner.

I am of the strong opinion we are 1 top-notch offensive receiving and then SERIOUS linebacker help away.
Of course, there is a virtual plethora of stud linebackers coming available in FA this year....not so much with stud receiving threats.

Thing of it is, a early round Lb may not play until November, a G can play in September.

A vet Lb who comes from a similar defensive scheme would start from day 1 imho.

I'd like to see them pick up Dexter McCluster to be our version of Leon Washington, or maybe Noel Devine from WVa, whichever one is deemed to be more rugged.

I just don't think there is a love connection AZ, maybe he doesn't block well enough, maybe they don't like his work ethic, whatever it is, Sheets probably won't see the field this year.

Now Tristan Davis..4.3 40, returned kicks at Auburn, he could be this year's Chris Williams minus the STOINK! off of his facemask..
